Abstract

Diazinon is an insecticide that has a higher toxicity than other insecticides. Normally, insecticides are detoxified by liver, but this process produced free radicals which causes cell damage. Free radicals also increase lipid peroxidation which directly increase malondialdehyde levels. This research was aimed to determine the influence of diazinon toxicity to the liver histopathology and levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum of rats (Rattus norvegicus). The rats were divided into 4 groups which consist of negative control group and three experimental groups which were given diazinon 20 mg/kgBW (P1), 40 mg/ kgBW (P2), and 60 mg/ kgBW (P3). The rats were given diazinon for 8 weeks orally. The parameters used in this research was liver histopathology with hematoxilin eosin stain and Malondialdehyde levels with Thiobarbituric test. Liver histopathology was analyzed in descriptive qualitative and the level of MDA was analyzed quantitatively using ANOVA and Tukey's exact test with α = 0.05. The result of this research showed the influence of organophosphate (diazinon) on liver histolopathology was shown by inflammatory cells infiltration in hepatic parenchyma, sinusoidal congestion, and cytoplasmic vacuolation of the hepatocytes. Statistical analysis proved that the diazinon was able to increase the level of MDA serum significantly (p<0,05) up to 71% in experimental group P1 (dose 20 mg/kgBW), which the increase level of MDA serum depend on dose of diazinon. This research concluded that diazinon is one of the organophosphate pesticide that toxic based on liver histopathology and MDA serum levels.

Abstract

Open wounds healing is need more time because of the long inflammatory phase. Dragon fruit skin contains flavonoids and vitamin C which function as anti-inflammatory and cell regeneration. The purpose of this study was to determine the therapeutic effects of dragon fruit skin extract ointment (Hylicereus costaricensis) on the area of IL-2 expression and the number of mononuclear inflammatory cells in skin tissue in open wounds of rats (Rattus norvegicus) for 6 days of treatment. As many as 20 male rats, ± 180 grams, Wistar were divided into 5 groups namely negative control, positive control, ointment of dragon fruit skin extract with concentration of 5% (P1), concentration of 10% (P2) and concentration of 15% (P3). Wound formed as dorsal skin biopsy of dorsal 1x1 cm. Ointment was given topically 2x/day for 6 days. Rats were euthanized on day 7th and the skin tissues of the wound area were collected. The number of mononuclear inflammatory cells was counted in skin slides of HE staining and Expression Area expression of IL-2 was measured by ImmunoRatio® in immunohistochemical slides. Data were analyzed statistically using One Way ANOVA and Tukey Post Hoc Test. The results showed that dragon fruit skin extract ointment was able to reduce significantly (p<0.05) for area expression of IL-2 and the number of mononuclear inflammatory cells and the best concentration of ointment for treatment was 15%. This is due to the effect of flavonoids as anti-inflammatory and vitamin C as a trigger for cell regeneration. The conclusion of the study was that ointment of dragon fruit peel able to become a candidate for therapeutic medicine for open wounds.

Abstract

Currently, there are many pet shops, animal clinics, and animal lover communities in Malang. Data from UB's animal education hospitals showed an increasing number of patients visiting there. This reflects that the owner had considered his favorite animal as part of his family that must be treated if they are sick. Drugs medicine plays an important role in the treatment of animal diseases. Therefore, pet owners must know how to use and store drugs properly so that the efficacy of the drug does not change, and the results of treatment are achieved. When the drug is not used anymore, the owner must know how to properly dispose of the drug to prevent the drug from being mixed, polluting the environment, or even being used by irresponsible people. The aim of this community service was to provide additional knowledge about how to use, store and dispose of veterinary medicines. The theme we took was "Increasing Knowledge of Al-Huda MTS Students on the Use, Storage and Disposal of Animal Medicine through Educational Seminars and Demonstration". Community service methods used were counseling and seminars on the use, storage and disposal of veterinary medicines and demonstrations on how to give medicines to cats. The evaluation tools used were pretest and posttest. The pretest and posttest results showed an increase in the knowledge of MTS Al-Huda students about how to give medicines to pets - especially cats -, how to store and dispose of drugs that are not used. While the results of the questionnaire showed a very good response related to community service.

Abstract

Ovariohysterectomy (OH) in domestic cats causes several side effects, including obesity. Obesity is closely related to diabetes. The glucoregulatory gene that will cause insulin resistance if there is a gene mutation is the PDX-1 gene. This insulin resistance will have a very immediate effect on blood glucose in the body. The study examined the relationship between PDX-1 gene polymorphisms and blood glucose levels in domestic cats with OH. The method used in this study was in vitro PCR amplification of the PDX-1 gene with Forward primers 'CCG AGC TGT CAA AGC TAG CG' and Reverse 'GAA CCG GTA GAG GGT CTT GG' and followed by sequencing of PCR products. The results showed fundamental differences in the base sequence in the PDX-1 gene sequences at c.435G>A, c.927A>T, and c.584A>G. The fundamental difference in the PDX1 gene sequence is a silent mutation

Abstract

Teknologi budidaya ikan bioflok merupakan teknologi terkini untuk mendapatkan hasil ikan yang optimal.  Teknologi ini perlu ditransferkan ke kelompok masyarakat guna salah satu usaha untuk peningkatan pendapatan kelompok masyarakat tersebut. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan melalui pendekatan kerjasama tripartit yaitu akademisi, praktisi budidaya bioflok dan kelompok masyarakat. Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah melalukan proses transfer teknologi kolam bioflok kepada kelompok pengajian Al Husna Blitar oleh Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan Universitas Brawijaya yang didampingi dan dilatih oleh Ori FISH Bangsri. Sebanyak 2 pemuda dari Kelompok Pengajian Al Husna mengikuti pelatihan Budidaya Ikan Bioflok di Ori FISH Bangsri. Kemudian sebanyak 1 kolam ikan nila diameter 2 meter disertai benih ikan nila ±5 cm 300 ekor dan seperangkatan peralatan budidaya ikan bioflok diberikan kepada Al Husna sebagai transfer teknologi. Selama budidaya dilakukan pendampingan oleh Praktisi dan dilakukan visitasi rutin oleh akademisi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa budidaya ikan bioflok sudah bisa dipanen setelah 3 bulan dengan hasil yang sangat baik. Kesimpulan kegiatan ini adalah transfer teknologi kolam ikan bioflok kepada kelompok masyarakat dapat berjalan sangat baik berkat adanya pendekatan tripartit melalui akademisi, praktisi dan kelompok masyakarat.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity aimed to provide an early introduction to animal welfare at TA (Tarbiyatul Athfal) Hidayatul Mubtadiin Malang via online. Methodology: Community service activities were conducted online with 13 participants as 6 years old as second level from TA Hidayatul Mubtadiin Malang, East Java. Before online learning, students were given worksheets (cognitive and numerical English) related to rabbit behavior and the introduction of animal welfare in rabbits. Students fill in worksheets at the same time as the online learning process. After learning, parents were asked to provide responses to questionnaires related to satisfaction with implementing activities. Recaps of TA students' responses and worksheets are then analyzed descriptively using pie charts. Results: The worksheet showed that TA students could do well in cognitive (80-100 score is 85%) and numeric English (80-100 score is 100%). Parents responded very well (54-69%) and good (23-46%). Online methods for early animal welfare recognition in TA students can work well through learning media technology such as presentations and videos. Conclusions: The online method for early animal welfare introduction to students of Tarbiyatul Athfal (TA) Hidayatul Mubtadiin Malang can run effectively through the use of educational media technologies such as presentations and videos. Limitations: The limitations of the service were that the meeting was conducted once, and students' supervised parents gave the answering-answer sheet. Contribution: Community service contributes to introducing animal welfare in the early stage of education at the kindergarten level that wishes to elevate their respect for animal.

Abstract

Kolitis merupakan sub tipe inflamatory bowel disease yang ditandai adanya segmen inflamasi dan ulserasi pada usus. Gejala khas yang ditimbulkan adalah diare berdarah. Ayam broiler sebagai hewan model kolitis dengan induksi Dextran Sodium Sulfate (DSS). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh DSS terhadap performa ayam broiler meliputi pertambahan bobot badan harian, FCR, dan indeks performa serta jumlah total BAL dalam sekum ayam broiler. Ayam berjumlah 32 ekor umur 15 hari dibagi menjadi delapan ekor per kelompok yaitu kontrol negatif (P0), dan kelompok perlakuan yang diinduksi DSS dengan konsentrasi 0,75%(P1); 0,5%(P2); 2,25%(P3) per hari selama enam hari dengan dicampurkan air minum. Bobot badan ayam ditimbang setiap tiga hari sekali dan pakan ditimbang setiap hari untuk perhitungan FCR. Ayam dieuthanasia umur 21 hari dan swab sekum dikultur pada media MRSA serta jumlah koloni dihitung dengan metode TPC. Analisis data menggunakan uji One Way ANOVA. Uji lanjutan post hoc tukey dengan tingkat kepercayaan 95%. Perhitungan Bakteri Asam Laktat menunjukkan adanya perbedaan signfikan (p<0,05) terhadap kontrol dan kelompok perlakuan mulai dari konsentrasi 0,75%. Induksi DSS dengan konsentrasi 2,25% berpengaruh terhadap PBBH secara signifikan (p<0,05), dan menurunkan indeks performa ayam broiler. Induksi DSS tidak berpengaruh signifikan (p>0,05) terhadap nilai FCR ayam broiler. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa induksi DSS pada berbagai tingkat dosis dapat menurunkan jumlah bakteri asam laktat dan induksi DSS konsentrasi 2,25% dapat menurunkan performa ayam broiler.
