Abstract

Dusung is traditional land management in Maluku by planting various plant species in the same area. Factors such as intensive land management, selection and combination of plant species, vegetation structure, topography, soil, and others influence the economic and ecological productivity of dusung. Ecological productivity affects the biomass content, which indicates the potential for carbon absorption in the land. The method used in this research is direct measurements in the field of several carbon pools specifically for aboveground biomass. Data collection was guided by Indonesian National Standards (SNI) 7724-2019 concerning field measurements for estimating forest carbon stocks. The research result showed that the diversity of vegetation species in Dusung Rutong Village at all growth levels in the moderate category tends to be low, dominated by fruit plants such as Durian (Durio zibethinus). Tree-level species diversity is moderate because the community controls the species that grow on Dusung land. The total aboveground carbon stocks in Dusung Rutong Village are 106.424 tonnes/ha, consisting of trees 100.673 tonnes/ha, undergrowth 1.708 tonnes/ha, litter 1.124 tonnes/ha, necromass 0.042 tonnes/ha and bamboo (Schizostachyum brachycladum) 2.877 tonnes/ha while the potential for equivalent carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption of 390.221 tonnes/ha.

Abstract

Indonesian nutmeg is preferred by the world market, because it has several advantages compared to nutmeg from other countries, the advantages include high oil yield and a distinctive aroma. In Negeri Watui, the majority of people work as farmers and show considerable interest in cultivating nutmeg plants. This interest is not only driven by the economic potential of nutmeg plants, but also by the availability of supporting agricultural land and easy access to seeds. However, the limited knowledge of the community about nutmeg cultivation techniques makes them hesitate to start. One of the main obstacles is the assumption that nutmeg cultivation techniques are quite complicated, especially in terms of selecting superior seeds, creating shade, arranging the right planting distance, and maintenance such as pruning, embroidery, and fertilization which require special technical precision and understanding. Therefore, this training was carried out to answer the community's need for adequate technical knowledge and build self-confidence in cultivating nutmeg plants sustainably. And they really hope for training on how to cultivate nutmeg plants so that it can increase the knowledge of farmer groups about nutmeg cultivation and foster the community's interest in creativity related to the development of natural resources.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the structure and composition of natural forest vegetation following post-flood conditions in Kamarian Village, Kairatu District, West Seram Regency. Vegetation analysis was employed by collecting data on species types, number, diameter, and tree height. The data collection method in this study utilized the continuous strip sampling method and line plot sampling method with 100% intensity. The research area covered 3 hectares (30,000 m²) consisting of a transect length of 500 meters and an observation strip width of 20 meters. The results showed that the vegetation structure in the post-flood area consisted of four strata: Stratum A (tall trees), Stratum B (medium trees), Stratum C (lower trees), Stratum D (shrubs and ferns), and Stratum E (ground cover layer). The dominant species in each stratum varied; however, they were generally dominated by Pulai (Alstonia scholaris), Pulaka (Octomeles sumatrana), and Salam (Syzygium polyanthum). The vegetation composition in the post-flood area indicated moderate species diversity, with the dominance of several species showing adaptive value. The Importance Value Index (IVI) at each growth stage (trees, poles, saplings, and seedlings) demonstrated that Pulai, Pulaka, and Salam play a very important role in the plant community at the research location.
