Abstract

Genres-based text in the content area of writing has long been practiced, yet the theme's content sometimes does not match learners' needs—this research aimed at discovering the effectiveness of local content-based learning media in teaching English for the tourism class. The local content selected was local public figures to write an autobiography. This research applied for participatory action research taking place in one-class English for tourism. A total of fifteen course-takers for the three-month course were recruited, documenting how the idea of local content we proposed was used to teach tourism students' writing with the test as the instrument. The teaching content is restricted to two formulated indicators; comprehending text structure and language features, including using to be and pronoun. Findings indicate that local content effectively improved course takers' comprehension of the descriptive text structure and increased vocabulary. The majority of course-takers reflected a significant improvement to meet classical passing grades in the last teaching evaluation. The diagnostic test previously was under stipulated standardized-score. The course-takers successfully wrote narration using local public figures to apply" to be" in good sentences. Moreover, overlapping use of masculine and feminine was distinguished correctly and positioned in well-constructed narrative text.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal a new understanding of Mandalika folklore through Derrida's deconstruction. The goal is to demonstrate that Derrida's approach uncovers objective meanings and offers a theoretical alternative to traditional interpretations. By contextualizing new meanings through deconstruction, the study provides varied insights without relying solely on the author's intended meaning. The research employs Derrida's deconstruction through textual and in-depth analysis, exploring the concept of difference to identify binary contexts in the narrative structure. It includes case studies, comparisons of folkloric versions, interdisciplinary approaches for a comprehensive view, and critical analysis. The process begins with a synopsis representing the entire Mandalika folklore text. Findings indicate that Mandalika folklore’s meanings extend beyond conventional understandings, emerging from dynamic interactions between textual and non-textual elements. These new meanings challenge previous interpretations shaped by authorial authority. The study highlights how Mandalika folklore reflects the patriarchal Sasak society, revealing tragic choices born from social disharmony. It emphasizes the need for the Sasak community to use the Mandalika narrative for reflection and reevaluation of gender relations. The folklore advocates for gender equality, depicting Mandalika as both a hero and a victim of patriarchal norms. This new understanding calls for a reassessment of gender roles and societal expectations.

Abstract

This research aims to examine how the perception of tourism benefits influences the support for tourism development in Loyok Village, moderated by political bureaucracy. Conducted through a quantitative methodology, the research gathered data from 183 Loyok Village residents via online surveys distributed through Google Forms using SmartPLS SEM. The research reveals a lack of significant correlation between the perceived benefits of tourism and the community's support for its development in Loyok Village. The anticipated economic and social benefits did not substantially influence community support. Furthermore, a possible explanation for these findings is that the majority of respondents are not directly involved in the tourism industry. Most participants are engaged in agriculture or other sectors, limiting their direct experience of tourism's tangible benefits. The research suggests that those who directly benefit from tourism tend to have positive attitudes towards its development, while those who do not exhibit negative perceptions
