Abstract

An increase in blood pressure during hemodialysis, known as intradialysis hypertension, if left untreated can lead to death in patients. Guided imagery therapy can provide a relaxing effect on patients to reduce sympathetic nerve overwork. The development of guided imagery therapy with virtual reality technology can project the visualization of objects more real to the patient so that it is expected to further relax the patient during hemodialysis so that blood pressure is stable. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of virtual reality-based guided imagery intervention on intradialytic blood pressure in hemodialysis patients. The research design was a quasi-experiment using a one-group pre and post-test with a control group approach. The research was conducted in the Hemodialysis Room of dr. Reksodiwiryo Padang hospital. Sampling using purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 13 people in each group. The mean difference in Mean Arterial Pressure in the intervention group before and after the intervention was 5.56, while in the control group, it was 0.51. The study was conducted from July – November 2023, blood pressure data is obtained by direct measurement and than mean arterial ressure was calculated. Data analysis using paired t test. The results of further analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the difference in pre-posttest MAP in the intervention group and control group (p = 0.001, α = 0.05) so it was concluded that Guided Imagery therapy based on Virtual Reality was effective in controlling intradialysis blood pressure. Guided Imagery therapy intervention based on Virtual Reality can be one of the therapies.

Abstract

Type 2 DM can affect aspects of the sufferer's quality of life and carries a risk of complications. DM requires good self-management to be able to control glucose levels. Education is an important component in patient self-management so that patients can control their disease. Smartphone technology through application implementation can be utilized to create innovative solutions. This research develops and applies a daily care diabetes calculator based on a mobile application that provides information on the pillars of diabetes management that is easily accessible to patients and embeds a smart calculator to calculate diet based on the patient's calorie needs and physical activity. The aim of the research is to determine the effectiveness of applying the daily care diabetes calculator application for self-management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. This type of quantitative research with a quasi-experiment design uses a one group pre and posttest approach without control group. The research was conducted at RSUD dr. Rasidin. Sampling was taken using a consecutive sampling technique with a sample size of 22 people. The intervention was given for 2 weeks and self-management was assessed using the The Summary of Diabetes Self-care Activities (SDSCA) questionnaire. with the validity and reliability test values for thisinstrument being r = 0,80 and α : 0,74. Data analysis using paired t test The average self-management score before implementing the diabetes daily care calculator application was 40.32 and the average self-management score after was 63.18. Implementation of a daily care diabetes calculator based on a mobile application is effective in improving self-management of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients (p<0.05). This application can be used by nurses as an extension in caring for patients at home, so that the care process provided remains sustainable.

Abstract

Management of hypertension can be done pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. Pharmacologically by consuming medication to control blood pressure. Whereas non-pharmacologically, it can be done through the provision of complementary therapy. Complementary therapy is not only for lowering blood pressure but also for addressing various physical and psychological complaints related to hypertension. Some complementary therapies found to help lower blood pressure include progressive muscle relaxation, slow stroke back massage, guided imagery, hypertension exercise, aromatherapy, music therapy, and murotal. The purpose of this literature review is to determine the effectiveness of several types of complementary therapies on blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The literature review search uses the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The literature search started with articles published from 2019 to 2024. The inclusion criteria used in the selection of this literature review are original research, full text, the period from 2019 to 2024, experimental studies with complementary therapy interventions, and research results showing the effectiveness of the therapy. Whereas the exclusion criteria are studies that do not focus on complementary therapy for hypertension patients. Based on the literature review, 6 articles were found that examined complementary therapy interventions showing significant results in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. The conclusion of this literature review is that complementary therapies such as progressive muscle relaxation, slow stroke back massage, guided imagery, hypertension exercises, aromatherapy, music therapy, and murotal are effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFU) are one of the serious complications experienced by diabetes patients. Foot care for DM patients is very important to prevent foot ulcer complications. Foot care can be done by using the right shoes and also maintaining moisture on the foot skin. Wearing shoes for too long affects the moisture of the feet. Skin that is too dry or too moist can also cause damage to the skin, which can lead to ulcers. Special shoes for DM patients that have already been used still have limitations and do not monitor foot health optimally and in real-time. The aim of this research is to design diabetes shoes with a foot moisture detection system. The design of this research is a research and development approach (R&D). The stages conducted in this research consist of literature study, system design, design implementation, system testing, and analysis. Data analysis and system performance results will evaluate the sensor's function to detect foot moisture in patients while using the shoes. The result of this research is the development of diabetes shoes with a real-time moisture detection system. It is hoped that diabetes mellitus patients can independently perform foot care, one of which is by controlling foot moisture.
