Abstract

This study examines the relationship between students' perception of Indonesian courses and their impact on academic performance. Through a quasi-experimental design, this study combines quantitative surveys, social media sentiment analysis with big data-based NLP, and statistical regression of academic records from 1,200 students at 10 universities in Indonesia. The study results show that students' negative perception of Indonesian courses has a significant negative correlation with their academic achievement. Through regression and correlation analysis, it was found that students with higher levels of negative sentiment towards this course tended to have a lower Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), with R² = 0.23 (p < 0.001) which suggests that the negative perception of the course can explain the variability of a GPA of 23%. These findings suggest that an unpleasant learning experience can significantly affect students' academic performance, especially when associated with teaching methods, curriculum relevance, and students' academic burden. The implications of this study confirm that curriculum reform and technology-based pedagogical innovation are not only needed to improve students' learning experience, but also play a role in optimizing academic outcomes.

Abstract

Research on religiosity has received important attention by academics. However, there are still few researchers who actually discuss religiosity in literature.  Religiosity is religious knowledge, feelings, and actions that arise in oneself. This research identifies religiosity in Aguk Irawan's novel Love Letter from the Angel of Heaven (hereinafter referred to as SCDBS). The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative, with the research subject coming from the novel SCBD. The subject of the study comes from Aguk Irawan's 312-page SCBDS novel literary work  . The research data is descriptive data in the form of texts, sentences, and expressions in SCDBS novels that contain elements of religiosity. The source of the research data is SCDBS.  The data collection technique used in this study is a literature study technique. Data analysis techniques are carried out by means of 1) reading novels; 2) categorize the data according to the research focus; 3) analyze the data; 4) make a temporary conclusion; 5) data verification; 6) make a final conclusion. The results showed that the eligiusity contained in this novel is the dimension of belief, the dimension of religious practice, the dimension of passion, the dimension of religious knowledge and the dimension of experience and consequences. The  dimension of belief found in this novel is in the form of faith in Allah totaling eight data, faith in the Messenger of Allah one data, dimension of religious practice, namely prayer as many as three data, dimension of passion in the form of gratitude, and prayer each amounting to one data, and miracles, dimension of religious knowledge, namely learning religion a number of one data, and the dimension of consequences found is the act of not drinking a number of one data. Research implications that the representation of religiosity is not only in the practice of life, but also in narrative works. Abstract

This study aims to describe the dynamics of a multilingual environment and its role in developing Indonesian speaking skills of students in the Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program. The research was conducted at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto in the 2024/2025 academic year. The population of this study consisted of all foreign students enrolled in the BIPA program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, with the sample selected purposively, namely students who actively participated in BIPA classes and interacted with the campus environment and surrounding community. This study employed a qualitative method with a case study design. The research instruments included semi-structured interview guidelines and observation sheets. Data were analyzed qualitatively using thematic analysis through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that BIPA students are situated in a multilingual environment involving the use of Indonesian, local languages, and foreign languages. The environment functions as a source of language acquisition through out-of-class interactions, particularly through imitation and repetition. Formal learning provides linguistic foundations, while naturalistic learning supports speaking fluency and confidence. However, the dominance of local languages and affective factors pose challenges in oral communication.

Abstract

This study is designed to identify and describe the variety of illocutionary speech acts found in a YouTube video titled “The Reasons for the Failure to Adopt the Finnish Education System in Indonesia,” a video published by Ferry Irwandi on October 10, 2024. This study focuses on language use in digital critical discourse that addresses issues of national education policy. The method applied in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted through listening accompanied by note-taking, while the data analysis phase relied on the determinant element sorting technique a method of interpreting data by considering the context of the utterance, the speaker’s intent, and relevant theoretical frameworks. Based on the findings, all five categories of illocutionary speech acts were present in the video with varying frequencies, totaling 14 utterances. Among these five categories, the assertive speech act appeared most frequently with 4 utterances, followed by the directive with 3 utterances, the expressive with 3 utterances, while the commissive and declarative each accounted for 2 utterances. The results of this study provide a tangible contribution to the development of pragmatic studies, particularly in the context of digital-based communication, while also offering deeper insight into the illocutionary strategies commonly employed by independent content creators in conveying ideas to a broad audience.This study is expected to improve the public’s pragmatic literacy in understanding educational content on social media.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implikatur percakapan dalam podcast “Supaya Sembuh dari Trauma” pada kanal YouTube Raditya Dika. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan data berupa tuturan yang mengandung implikatur percakapan antara Raditya Dika dan Dr. Jiemi Ardian. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode simak dan teknik catat, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan teknik padan pragmatik dengan memperhatikan konteks tuturan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat delapan data implikatur percakapan yang terdiri atas implikatur umum dan implikatur khusus. Implikatur umum muncul pada tuturan berupa definisi dan penjelasan umum mengenai trauma yang dapat ditafsirkan tanpa memerlukan konteks situasional yang sangat spesifik, sedangkan implikatur khusus muncul pada tuturan yang memerlukan konteks pertanyaan, hubungan topik, dan situasi percakapan untuk memahami makna tersiratnya. Implikatur percakapan dalam podcast digunakan untuk menjelaskan konsep trauma dengan bahasa yang lebih sederhana, memberikan saran secara halus, serta membangun kedekatan dengan audiens melalui percakapan yang santai dan komunikatif. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implikatur percakapan berperan penting dalam menyampaikan informasi secara tidak langsung serta membantu audiens memahami pembahasan trauma dengan lebih mudah. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya kajian pragmatik, khususnya implikatur percakapan dalam media digital berupa podcast.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia, khususnya dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efektivitas penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis video interaktif Edpuzzle sebagai solusi untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan metode quasi-eksperimen dan desain pretest–posttest kelompok kontrol. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Kalibagor yang terdiri atas kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol, masing-masing berjumlah 31 siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes tertulis dan dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata posttest kelompok eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok kontrol. Peningkatan hasil belajar pada kelompok eksperimen termasuk kategori tinggi, sedangkan kelompok kontrol berada pada kategori sedang. Uji hipotesis menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara kedua kelompok. Dengan demikian, penggunaan Edpuzzle terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa pada pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia.
