Abstract

This study used an experimental research method, which is a research method that aims to understand the causal process by treatment and conducting controlled testing on a sample of research subjects. This research uses quantitative methods by taking research data in the form of numbers. The material used in this study is the gear sprocket. A gear sprocket is a motor component that transmits power from the engine to the rear wheels so that the motor can run optimally. The sprocket gear was heat treated at 850 ℃ with a holding time of 20 minutes. The variations of quenching media are mineral water, dromus coolant, and SAE 40 oil. Hardness and microstructure tests were carried out for each specimen to determine the effect of different cooling media on the quenching process. The results of this study indicate the highest specimen hardness value was obtained at 301 HV by immersion in mineral water media. The lowest hardness was obtained at 207 HV with SAE 40 oil media immersion. Meanwhile, the non-treatment material hardness is 150 HV. In this case, there was an increase in the highest hardness of about two times compared to non-treated specimens. Observation of the microstructure shows that the grain size of the mineral water quenching specimens looks smaller than that of the non-treatment models. This phenomenon supports the idea that quenching can increase the surface hardness of the gear sprocket.

Abstract

Kebutuhan akan rumput gajah untuk pakan ternak di desa Curidan, Sukoharjo terus meningkat, hal tersebut berbanding lurus dengan populasi sapi yang juga meningkat. Rumput harus disediakan peternak sebagai pakan utama ternak setiap harinya, akan tetapi tingkat efektivitas konsumsi pakan ternak masih kurang. Kebanyakan peternak masih menggunakan proses pencacah rumput secara konvensional. Sehingga apabila rumput dalam jumlah yang cukup banyak maka dibutuhkan waktu dan tenaga yang lebih banyak. Tujuan dilaksanakannya pengabdian masyarakat dengan menciptakan mesin tepat guna untuk membantu peran manusia dalam proses pencacah rumput dengan menggunakan mesin Pencacah. Mesin ini diharapkan mampu meningkatkan efektivitas dan efisiensi produksi pakan ternak. Hasil program menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata kapasitas produksi mengalami peningkatan sebesar 250% dari 200 kg/jam menjadi 500 kg/jam. Penggunaan mesin baru tetap bisa menjaga kualitas pada rumput  sebagai sumber protein. Singkatnya, program pengabdian masyarakat telah memberikan perubahan positif dalam hal peningkatan efektivitas proses pencacahan pakan ternak bagi peternak sapi di desa Curidan, Parangjoro, Grogol, Sukoharjo

Abstract

Saat ini hampir semua negara di dunia terjangkit virus corona baru SARS-CoV-2 atau penyakit Covid-19, tak terkecuali Indonesia. Sehingga perlu adanya tindakan nyata yang harus dilakukan untuk menanggulangi penyebaran virus corona. Telah dilakukan kegiatan disinfeksi menggunakan metode fogging dengan bantuan alat fogging electric 600W sebagai salah satu upaya penanggulangan dan pencegahan penyebaran virus covid-19, tujuan diadakannya program ini adalah untuk ikut berpartisipasi dalam pencegahan penyebaran virus covid-19 khususnya di daerah Bulakrejo, Sukoharjo dan desa Kadipiro, Surakarta. Terdapat empat tahapan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini yaitu tahap I: survey dan perizinan kepada pihak RW, tahap II: persiapan alat dan cairan disinfeksi, tahap III: pelaksanaan kegiatan disinfeksi dan tahap IV: evaluasi dan serah terima alat. Dari hasil kegiatan pengabdian tersebut didapat kesimpulan bahwa masyarakat memberikan respon yang positif terhadap kegiatan tersebut selain itu ada harapan dari masyarakat untuk mengadakan kegiatan serupa secara rutin dan berkelanjutan. Selain itu upaya kewaspadaan, pencegahan dan pengendalian COVID-19 di Lingkungan Bulakrejo dan Kadipiro merupakan bentuk wujud nyata yang dapat kami lakukan untuk mengabdi dan berperan serta dalam membantu memutus mata rantai penyebaran COVID-19.

Abstract

Sampah merupakan segala sesuatu yang tidak lagi digunakan yang dihasilkan dari aktivitas manusia. Pengolahan sampah harus menjadi perhatian penting agar tidak menyebabkan dampak negatif bagi manusia dan lingkungan. Tempat Pembuangan Sampah Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (TPS 3R) di Desa Gedangan Kecamatan Grogol Kabupaten Sukoharjo. TPS 3R memiliki fasilitas pengolahan sampah berupa mesin pencacah sampah, tetapi belum berjalan dengan maksimal dikarenakan mesin pengolah sampah mengalami kerusakan. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk pembuatan prosedur tentang cara penggunaan dan perawatan pada mesin pencacah sampah organik yang hasilnya untuk pembuatan kompos. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah berfungsinya kembali unjuk kerja mesin pencacah sampah organik. Hasil yang lain terbentuknya pedoman SOP (Standar Operasional Prosedur), cara perawatan mesin, dan cara menangani masalah yang terjadi pada mesin.

Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 telah mengubah perilaku masyarakat dalam menjaga kebersihan, terutama dalam kebiasaan mencuci tangan. Namun, setelah pandemi berakhir, kebiasaan ini mulai berkurang, ditambah dengan terbatasnya sarana cuci tangan yang tersedia. Di Kecamatan Colomadu, masih ditemukan rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat dalam menjaga kebersihan tangan. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, tim pengabdian masyarakat menginisiasi penyediaan alat cuci tangan portabel di beberapa fasilitas umum sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya kebersihan tangan. Kegiatan ini meliputi perencanaan dan desain alat, pembuatan dan instalasi, sosialisasi kepada masyarakat, serta monitoring dan perawatan berkala. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa enam unit alat cuci tangan portabel yang dipasang di kantor kecamatan, pasar, dan puskesmas telah dimanfaatkan secara intensif oleh masyarakat, meningkatkan frekuensi kebiasaan mencuci tangan dan memperoleh apresiasi dari pemerintah setempat. Desain alat yang ergonomis dan sistem drainase yang efektif mendukung keberhasilan program ini, meskipun beberapa tantangan dalam perawatan dan koordinasi masih perlu diatasi. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran kebersihan tangan dan dapat dijadikan model untuk implementasi serupa di wilayah lain guna mencegah penyebaran penyakit menular pasca pandemi.

Abstract

This research characterizes the bending behavior of hollow square tube glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites using the roll-wrapping method. CSM (Chopped Strand Mat) and WRM (Woven Roving Mat) glass fibers were chosen as reinforcing constituents with epoxy as the matrix. Glass fiber was chosen because it has strength, stiffness, lightness, corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance. These properties can be utilized for frame and structural applications in various types of transportation equipment. The roll-wrapping technique was chosen for manufacturing GFRP composite hollow square tubes. The roll-wrapping technique is the simplest method and does not require a lot of money. The bending test using the Three Point Bending method is based on the ASTM D7264 test standard. In addition, macroscopic observations of the specimen's cross-section after experiencing a bending load are carried out to determine the product failure criteria. Bending tests were conducted on two types of GFRP composites, hollow square tube products produced from CSM and WRM fibers. The bending test results showed that the CSM fiber-reinforced composite has higher stress values (167.122 MPa) and strain (0.055%) compared to the WRM fiber-reinforced composite, which has stress values of 78.339 MPa and strain of 0.030%. The results of macro photo analysis show that random fiber composites dominate tensile failure while woven fiber composites dominate compressive failure. Failure analysis through macro photos is a critical process in determining the physical root cause of the problem

Abstract

Steel is one of the metals that is widely used in today's rapidly growing industrial world. The need for manufacturing machine components is increasing. Efforts to improve the mechanical properties of steel can use heat treatment and surface treatment. One of the surface treatments that is often used in the industrial world is shot peening. This study aims to determine the effect of normalising and shot peening treatments on S45C medium carbon steel. The effect of the treatment is indicated by changes in microstructure results and surface and transverse hardness testing of the treatment results. The result is a change in the microstructure and hardness value of S45C carbon steel from the effect of normalising and shot peening treatment. Shot peening treatment causes the grains to become finer from the surface to the subsurface depending on the distance from the surface to the surface depth. These changes cause the surface and sub surface of S45C carbon steel to experience an increase in mechanical properties. The highest hardness in normalising heat treatment and shot peening treatment at 20 minutes was 316.4 HV.

Abstract

Motorcycle piston waste, made from aluminum, is often poorly managed despite its advantages in corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity. This study aims to enhance the economic value of piston waste through recycling using the sand casting method. The melting process was conducted at a temperature of 843°C, followed by casting into sand molds. The recycled product is intended for use as a ship propeller component. Tests performed included Vickers hardness testing and microstructural analysis to evaluate the mechanical properties and material characteristics. The results showed that the recycled material exhibited an average hardness of 77.2 kg/mm², consistent with standard aluminum hardness. Microstructural analysis revealed the presence of porosity which may affect mechanical strength; however, this porosity did not reduce the material's resistance to mechanical damage and provided good toughness. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that motorcycle piston waste recycled by sand casting at 843 °C has potential for use in manufacturing high-value components such as ship propellers, considering the hardness quality and microstructural characteristics of the material.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the utilization of used piston waste as an alternative material for making fishing boat propellers. Engineering is carried out to improve its mechanical properties by shot peening treatment. Shot peening is a surface treatment method by shooting small steel ball particles in a controlled manner. In this study, used pistons were recycled and used as the basic material for propellers, then shot peening was carried out with a pressure of 8 bar with variations in shooting duration for 5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes. Testing includes testing the chemical composition of the specimen, tensile testing, and observing the micro structure. Tensile testing is to determine mechanical strength, while macro photography is to identify changes in surface structure. The results of the chemical composition test state that the recycled piston is AL-Si-Cu. Meanwhile, the results of the tensile test show that the longer the shot peening duration, the tensile strength of the material increases significantly. Shot peening with a duration of 20 minutes gives the highest strength. The increase in tensile strength is 43% or 113 MPa compared to the non-treatment specimen. Micro structure observations show that the shot peening process creates a denser surface layer, so that tensile strength can be increased. This research is expected to be a reference for the propeller industry to increase production efficiency and sustainability.
