Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Objective: Meaningful work is an essential aspect of teachers that can be influential in improving the quality of education; therefore, this study aimed to identify antecedent factors and determinants of meaningful work in teachers. Method: This study used a systematic literature review to examine the variables that can be antecedents and determinants of meaningful work. Results: Based on the literature studies that have been conducted, it is known that variables such as calling orientation, work role fit, workplace attachment, coworker relations, job design, altruistic behavior, authentic leadership, job crafting, and perceptions of organizational identification can be antecedent factors of meaningful work of teachers. Meaningful work can determine variables such as work attitude, teacher-student relationships, work engagement, burnout, resilience, self-rated health, intention to leave, corrosion at the character level, and organizational commitment. Novelty: This study thoroughly examines the antecedents and determinants of teachers' meaningful work variables, which, other yet to behave, need to be more widely researched.

Abstract

In education, teachers play a role in carrying out their duties as an educator for the continuity of education. Based on data the percentage of teachers experiencing fatigue and turnover tends also be high. This study was conducted with the aim of empirically determining the relationship between Proactive Personality and Job Commitment with Works Engagement as a mediator. This study used a quantitative method with purposive sampling technique and involved 112 elementary school teachers as the research sample. Three primary scales were used in this study, Proactive Personality with the Proactive Personality Scale (PPS), Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ), and Work Engagement UWES-9 (Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-9). Mediation analysis was performed using Hayes 5.0 PROCESS Macro with bootstrapping was performed 10,000 times with a 95% confidence interval. The Result showed that proactive personality had a significant effect on job commitment with work engagement as a partial mediator (b = 0.31 and 95% significant with CI = 0.16, 0.51). Proactive personality had a significant effect on work engagement (b = 0.35 and p less than 0.001). Work engagement had a significant on job commitment (b = 0.89 and p less than 0.001). This study found that work engagement has a partial effect on the relationship between proactive personality and job commitment.

Abstract

The mining industry represents a high-risk work environment standardized psychometric instruments for measuring flourishing among Indonesian mining workers are currently limited. This study aims to examine the construct validity and reliability of the Flourishing Scale, adapted from the PERMA model (Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment), among mining employees in Indonesia. Quantitative data from 262 employees, obtained through purposive sampling, were analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with the assistance of JASP software, while internal reliability was estimated using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. The results indicated that the measurement model provided a very good fit to the empirical data, with CFI = 0.992, TLI = 0.990, and RMSEA = 0.025. All items yielded significant factor loadings, supported by high internal consistency (α = 0.859). As the first psychometric adaptation for this specific population in Indonesia, this study offers a significant original contribution to occupational psychology. The findings provide a robust, evidence-based instrument for Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs to enhance psychological well-being, mitigate human-factor risks, and support operational sustainability. Keywords: confirmatory factor analysis, flourishing, mining employees, construct validity, psychological well-being

Abstract

The retail industry is characterized by high work demands, including sales targets, intensive customer interactions, and dynamic operational conditions that may affect employees’ psychological well-being, particularly job satisfaction. This study aimed to examine the effect of work engagement on job satisfaction among retail employees. A quantitative approach with a correlational survey design was employed, involving 81 retail employees selected through purposive sampling. Work engagement was measured using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), while job satisfaction was assessed using the Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The findings revealed that work engagement had a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction (R = 0.550; R² = 0.302; p < 0.001), indicating that employees with higher levels of vigor, dedication, and absorption tended to report greater job satisfaction. Work engagement contributed 30.2% to the variance in job satisfaction, suggesting a meaningful role in shaping employees’ positive evaluations of their work despite the demanding nature of the retail environment. These findings imply that organizations should strengthen employee engagement through supportive work environments, balanced workloads, meaningful work experiences, and employee development initiatives to enhance both employee well-being and organizational performance.
