Abstract

Scientific literacy is recognized by the World Economic Forum as one of the 16 essential skills for the 21st century. However, the scientific literacy of Indonesian students remains relatively low based on PISA results. This study aims to examine the enhancement of students' scientific literacy through implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on socio-scientific issues (SSI) on ecosystem learning. This research used a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design. The population consisted off all 7th grade in the academic year 2024/2025, totaling 108 students. Two classes were selected as samples: 28 students in the experimental class and 26 students in the control class. Data collection instruments include tests, observation, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed using N-Gain to measure improvement and inferential statistics to test significance. These findings suggest that Problem Based Learning (PBL) based on socio-scientific issues (SSI) effectively enhances students' scientific literacy. This research can be an alternative strategy, and reference for teachers and schools in implementing innovative learning that supports scientific literacy development.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of science process skills of students at Mekar Arum Junior High School. The research method used is quantitative research using experimental methods with purposive sampling techniques. In the learning process, using the discovery learning model by conducting experiments through simple food substance tests. It was found that overall the indicators of science process skills of students in class VIII.A SMP Mekar Arum had an average of 72.85% with a good category, where there were 50% students with low KPS categories or as many as 14 students, 28.60% students with moderate KPS categories or as many as 9 students, and 21.40% students with high KPS categories. This shows that the average KPS of students in class VIII.A is good and should be more frequently trained and used in learning activities, so that students have all the abilities needed to obtain, develop, and apply science concepts, principles, laws or theories.

Abstract

In the 21st century, scientific process skills are highly sought after. Interactive learning models and media can effectively train students in these skills. This research investigates the use of the Levels of Inquiry learning model assisted by Liveworksheet to improve students' science process skills in the context of environmental change. The study employs a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group. Purposive sampling was used to select the participants. Data collection relied on a test sheet containing descriptive questions aligned with ten science process skill indicators. The t-test analysis (p < 0.05) revealed a significant difference in the improvement of science process skills. Notably, the increase was higher in classes utilizing the Levels of Inquiry Model with Liveworksheet compared to those without. The findings demonstrate that the Levels of Inquiry Model assisted by Liveworksheet  has a significant positive impact (large effect size, d = 0.84) on developing students' science process skills when studying environmental change.
