Abstract

The idea of capitalism always refers to the triumph of the U.S. giant industry. In economic field, American and British capitalism is called as individual capitalism – the contrary of communal capitalism a la Japan and Germany. This paper is intended to examine the identity of economic character of individual capitalism in two Hollywood movies Thank You for Smoking (2006) and The Company Men (2010). Exploring the theory of individual and communal capitalism stated by Lester Thurow, it can be found that through mechanistic relationship, hard individual competition and unending punishment, those all erase emotional bound between individual and corporation. In short it becomes one of the reasons why American industry perishes its superiority slowly.

Abstract

The Lakota people are an important part of the Sioux tribe whose existence has made history for the development of the diversity of the United States' multicultural society. Most of the history of the tribes in the state of South Dakota reflects the powerlessness of the exploitation of European immigrants who later became the United States federal government. This study intends to look at the condition of the Lakota people in the past and in the present, especially the efforts they take to maintain their cultural identity in the midst of all the difficulties of living in the reservation area. Through qualitative research using a literature review model, this research data comes from the Life Lakota documentary film and also written sources that review the Lakota tribal community. The results show that the efforts made by the Sioux YMCA organization through Marrowbone activities that provide cultural assistance to Lakota children and youth are aimed at bringing the tribal kinship relations closer and bringing them closer to the ancestral traditions of the Lakota tribe through joining camping activities, exercising rodeo and learning native Lakota language.

Abstract

 ABSTRAKNilai-nilai budaya suatu masyarakat disebar luaskan dan dilestarikan melalui satuan terkecilnya yakni keluarga. Keberlangsungan nilai-nilai budaya tersebut bergantung pada peran aktif anggota keluarga dalam beradaptasi dengan perkembangan masyarakat di sekelilingnya termasuk terhadap perspektif nilai-nilai budaya masyarakat dari budaya lain. Kajian dalam artikel ini merupakan hasil dari komunikasi lintas budaya melalui film Little Miss Sunshine, yang mengambil tema tentang nilai-nilai keluarga. Melalui metode ceramah kepada ibu-ibu Seruni PKK RT 04/12 Banyuanyar Surakarta, para peserta mendapatkan wawasan mengenai tradisi makan malam bersama sebagai sarana komunikasi keluarga, keterbukaan dalam berkomunikasi dan kemandirian anak. Kata kunci:  komunikasi lintas budaya, nilai-nilai keluarga, film, Amerika Serikat ABSTRACTThe cultural values of a society are disseminated and preserved through its smallest unit, the family. The sustainability of these cultural values depends on the active role of family members in adapting to the development of the surrounding community, including the perspective of the cultural values of people from other cultures. The study in this article is the result of cross-cultural communication using the film Little Miss Sunshine, which takes the theme of family values. Through the lecture method to Seruni PKK RT 04/12 Banyuanyar Surakarta, the participants gained insight on the tradition of having family  dinner as a means of family communication, openness in communication and children's independence. Keywords: cross cultural communication, family values, film, United States of America

Abstract

Hidup manusia tidak bisa dipisahkan dengan teknologi. Di era digital ini teknologi komunikasi mencapai kemajuan besar dengan ditemukan telepon seluler. Ponsel menjadi alat canggih dengan berbagai fungsi digunakan oleh seluruh masyarakat. Alat ini menjadi kebutuhan primer. Ponsel sebagai perangkatmempunyai efek negatif dan positif. Hal ini tergantung pada pengunaanya. Dampak negatif dari ponsel bisa diminimalisasi jika pengguna dibekali literasi yang memadai. Dengan bekal ini maka pengguna akan dapat menggunakan ponsel dengan bijak. Pengetahuan ini sangat dibutuhkan terutama bagi ibu-ibu dimana pada  masa pandemi ini mendapingi anak dalam menggunakan ponsel secara baik dan benar. Artikel ini adalah materi pengabdian masyarakat yang sudah diolah kembali menjadi tulisan yang lebih komprehensif agar juga bermanfaat bagi pembaca artikel.  Metode yang dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah, tanya jawab dan praktek. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini adalah pengetahuan yang memadai dalam menggunakan ponsel di era digital. In this digital era, communication technology has made great progress with the invention of the cellular phone. Mobile phones have become a sophisticated tool with various functions that are used by all people. This tool is a primary need. Mobile as a device has negative and positive effects. This depends on the use. The negative impact of mobile phones can be minimized if users are equipped with adequate literacy. With this provision, the user will be able to use the cellphone wisely. This knowledge is very much needed, especially for mothers who during this pandemic are accompanying children in using cellphones properly and correctly. This article is community service material that has been reprocessed into a more comprehensive article so that it is also useful for article readers. The methods in this activity are lectures, questions and answers and practice. The results obtained from this activity are adequate knowledge in using mobile phones in the digital era. Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi informasi mengakibatkan berbagai perubahan dalam masyarakat. Diantara dampak positif yang membuka cakrawala pengetahuan yang tanpa batas, dampak negatif derasnya arus informasi menantang semua pihak untuk berperan secara bijak menyikapinya. Ibu-ibu yang adalah teman belajar anak di rumah perlu memahami situasi perubahan sosial terkait maraknya penggunaan internet dan media sosial yang tidak selalu untuk tujuan belajar. Kajian ini merupakan hasil sosialisasi literasi media kepada para ibu-ibu pokdawis GMA Banyuanyar yang gunanya adalah menambah pengetahuan untuk menemani proses belajar anak di rumah. Dengan metode ceramah dan diskusi tanya jawab, para ibu belajar memahami relasi orang tua-anak saat mengakses media.Kata kunci :  internet, media sosial, proses belajar, perubahan sosial The development of information technology has resulted in various changes in society. Among the positive impacts that open up limitless knowledge horizons, the negative impacts of the rapid flow of information challenge all parties to play a wise role in responding to it. Mothers who accompany their children studying at home need to understand the situation of social change related to the widespread use of the internet and social media which is not always for learning purposes. This study is the result of media literacy socialization to women and mothers in  Pokdawis GMA Banyuanyar  in which the purpose is to increase knowledge to accompany the child's learning process at home. Through the lecture and discussion method, the participants of the event learn to understand the parent-child relationship when accessing the media.Keywords : internet, social media, learning process, social change

Abstract

The function of the state in exercising power is to ensure social justice for its people. To make it happen, efforts are needed to explore the concept of statehood. In its development there are two concepts of statehood, namely the welfare state and liberal states or capitalism state. Both are different and tend to be contradictory. This article aims to study and explore about Maqashid As-shari'ah (the principles or purposes of Islamic law) in order to bridge the conflict between the two concepts of statehood. The method used is socio-legal research, which is legal research using interdisciplinary. Data is obtained from the library or library recearch. The results showed that the concept of the welfare state demands the role of the state in distributing socio-economic justice, while the concept of a liberal state marginalizes the role of the state in the distribution of socio-economic justice and submits to market mechanisms. In state practice the concept of a liberal state defeats the concept of a welfare state. As a result the function of the state shifted towards the market and turned its face into an inhuman capitalist economy. Islam can be used as a solution and bridge the conflict between the two concepts of statehood. By placing the politics of Islamic law based on the Maqasid asy-Shari'ah as the solution, namely putting the principles of shari'ah economy in the form of banning usury, prioritizing justice, togetherness and prudence which in practice can be a Shari'ah business, as reflected in Law Number 21 of 2008 concerning the Development of Shari'ah and the principle of good governance according to Shari'ah in the form of shiddiq (honest), istiqamah (firm in the establishment), fathanah (intelligence: ratio, taste and divinity), trust (accountability).

Abstract

ABSTRAKDalam perkembangannya sebagai industri produk media, film membutuhkan penonton untuk mengevaluasi dan mengembangkan keberadaannya. Kebutuhan akan peran penonton dalam film diwadahi dengan aktivitas-aktivitas apresiatif seperti resensi film, kritik film maupun penelitian film. Apresiasi yang aktif dan gencar dilakukan akan mendukung keberadaan dan kelangsungan dunia film. Kajian adalam artikel ini merupakan hasil dari kegiatan mengenai dunia resensi film yang diikuti oleh komunitas RAW SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta. Dengan metode ceramah sosialisasi dan dilanjutkan dengan latihan memahami resensi film, para peserta belajar memahami seluk beluk meresensi film yang mengikutkan pengetahuan baik pengetahuan tematik film maupun sinematik film. Kata kunci: apresiasi, resensi film, tematik, sinematik ABSTRACTIn its development as a media product industry, film requires audiences to evaluate and develop its presence. The need for the role of the audience in a film is accommodated by appreciative activities such as film reviews, film criticism and film research. Appreciation that is active and intensively carried out will support the existence and continuity of the world of film. The study in this article is the result of an activity regarding the world of film reviews that was attended by the RAW community SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta. With the socialization lecture method and followed by small training in understanding film reviews, the participants learned to understand the aspects of film reviews which included knowledge of both thematic and cinematics elements of film. Keywords: appreciation, film review, thematic, cinematics

Abstract

ABSTRAKSetiap negara memiliki potensi bencana alam yang berbeda-beda, ada yang  berpotensi besar dan ada yang berpotensi kecil. Indonesia, negara yang berpotensi besar terkena bencana alam. Bencana alam seringkali terjadi dan tidak dapat diprediksi. Masyarakat Indonesia perlu dibekali dengan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan atau literasi bencana terutama di daerah rawan bencana. Dengan latar belakang ini maka diadakan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat bertema literasi Bencana. Pengabdian Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Dusun Kadisoka, Purwomartani, Kalasan, yang berada di wilayah rawan bencana. Bencana yang sering terjadi di daerah ini adalah efek letusan gunung Merapi, dan gempa bumi  Bentuk kegiatan ini adalah penyuluhan dan bertujuan memberi informasi, pengetahuan tentang bencana. Selanjutnya diharapkan masyarakat mempunyai pengetahuan, ketrampilan dan kesiapan menghadapi bencana. Metode yang digunakan adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, simulasi penyelamatan dokumen penting. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di bulan Oktober 2022. Kata kunci: literasi, bencana, masyarakat, Kadisoka ABSTRACTEvery country has different potential for natural disasters, some with big potential and some with small potential. Indonesia, a country with great potential for natural disasters. Natural disasters occur frequently and cannot be predicted. Indonesian people need to be equipped with disaster knowledge and skills or literacy, especially in disaster-prone areas. With this background, community service activities with the theme Disaster literacy were held. This Community Service is carried out in Kadisoka Hamlet, Purwomartani, Kalasan, which is in a disaster-prone area. The disasters that often occur in this area are the effects of the eruption of Mount Merapi and earthquakes. The form of this activity is counseling and aims to provide information and knowledge about disasters. Furthermore, it is hoped that the community will have the knowledge, skills and preparedness to face disasters. Abstract

Culture is one of the uniqueness of humans that makes it have a way of surviving in the world. If animals grow anatomical organs to adapt and survive, then humans grow culture. Culture is our adaptive organ, it is our survival mechanism. This cultural world is an order of existence like no other because it is not shared by any other species. Culture adapts more quickly to new situations than changes in anatomy. That is why humans can move from one environment to another, whereas animals cannot. Culture is a collective product that includes general behavior, perception, emotion, self, and motivation, which then synthesizes individual behavior in a new form. The behavior of all individuals involved in a particular context is not always uniform or identical, but sociocultural contexts can shape people in various ways. Indonesian society has a cultural mentality that refers to a number of distinctive characteristics, both individuals and community groups which then can be a distinguishing feature from other nations. A friendly, helpful, and mutually cooperative character is some of the most often attributed to the nature of the Indonesian people. Literature as a cultural product can be a means to see the mental identity of the culture. The Edensor, a novel by Andrea Hirata, shows how the representation of Indonesian students and their mental and cultural identity in the midst of international relations, with Sorbonne University students. Through qualitative descriptive research with a constructionist approach from Stuart Hall's representation theory, this study's results indicate that Indonesian students' representation is tenacious, easily fascinated especially by Western society and culture, and tend to believe in superstition.

Abstract

This article aims to examine corruption practices in the regions carried out by political dynasties and prevention efforts from the perspective of responsive constitutional law. It will examine the motives of political dynasties, forms of corruption by dynasties, factors that cause dynasties and efforts to prevent. This article uses a socio-legal method that is an interdisciplinary approach in the study of law by combining social sciences or humanities. Secondary data mainly comes from case, regulations and library. The results of the study show that the dynasties tend to practice the forms of corruption in the regions: corruption in the buying and selling of regional government positions and corruption in regional infrastructure projects originating from the Regional Budget Revenue. Factors causing political dynasties: the high cost of regional head elections and the absence of laws prohibiting dynastic practices in regional head elections. Efforts to prevent the practice of political dynasties for regional head elections from the perspective of responsive constitutional law are in the form of policies to regulate the regional head election system that prioritizes the principle of responsibility for public demands and provides alternative solutions through: reducing the cost of regional head elections, lowering the threshold for candidacy, changing the financing of regional head elections from the Regional Revenue Expenditure Budget to the State Expenditure Budget, separating local and national elections, a political culture that educates the people in voting, and policies for the welfare of the people in order do not elect dynastic candidates in regional head elections.
