Abstract

School as the teaching and learning process which the teachers guide students to have a good attitude, behaviour, and manner. The culture value is also related to shape the students’ good characteristics. In this research, the researcher tried to find out what the culture values are that was applied in SD IT Bunayya Padangsidimpuan in religious activities guidance, how the school elements applied them, and whether there were some problems in appliying those values. Therefore, based on the researcher’s findings, it was found that there were many good of culture values that was showed in this school, like; smiling culture, “salam, sapa, sopan, santun or 5S” (greeting, saying, politeness, and good manner),  Nafi’un li Ghorihi culture or environment careness. Beside it, praying together, memorizing holy Qur’an, shiroh, celebrating the great day of Moslem, faith and taqwa guidance at night, giving something to the poor men, doing Qur’ban, and “Pesantren Kilat”. The last, some of the problems found in the research application were from their parents and lack of school facilities.

Abstract

This article describes how to become a good parent for the children. Become a good parent need knowledge, it  must search by theirself with reading book, following parenting class.  In this writing the author share some reward from the god has already given for human.  It called learning reward, consisten reward, direction reward, listening reward and the last effective listening. All the reward can be applied for educate in creating good children.  The parents need patience to practice the five reward , the result from  effort the parents for conduct all the reward is a good children or Saleh. They will grow up by creative, selfconfidence,  good character and they have a good relationship with their parents. Their parents is their friend, it created strong good character and excellent generation. Be a good parent to create a good children.

Abstract

Online learning is one of the big challenges that must be done in this Era. However many people less access and do not use the appropriate media to do it. Besides, they also lack of the application usage. However, Social Media is more popular today. Many people spend their time on social media for communicating, entertaining, selling, and etc. Therefore, using social media as the tool to do the communication in learning is possible to do. One of the popular social media that is used by the students today is Instagram, which has 70 million users in Indonesia. Thus, this research is aimed to find out the effectiveness of using Instagram in online learning. It is specified to the 3rd Semester students of English Department of IAIN Padangsidimpuan. It investigated the participation and feedback of students in learning process while using Instagram as the platform in learning activity. This research used descriptive qualitative research to analyse the students’ perception in implementing Instagram in learning process. The results show that Instagram is effective to be used as the tool for the students’ interaction especially in discussion which is related to the task activity and explanation. Besides, the students felt easier to use this application because it has been used by almost students of the 3rd semester of English Department of IAIN Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

This study investigated the difficulties faced by eighth-grade students at MTsN Padangsidimpuan in learning English vocabulary. The research revealed that students encountered various challenges, including Pronunciation, Meaning, Spelling, Memorization, Differentiation and Sentence integration. Additionally, the study identified several factors contributing to these difficulties: Lack of engagement and Limited exposure. To address these issues, the research explored pedagogical strategies used by teachers to help students overcome their difficulties. These strategies included Vocabulary tasks, Memorization techniques, Differentiated learning, Active practice, Engaging methods, Dictionary skills. This research highlights the importance of understanding student difficulties in vocabulary learning and implementing effective pedagogical approaches to overcome them. The identified challenges, contributing factors, and teacher strategies provide valuable insights for improving English vocabulary instruction in the context of MTsN Padangsidimpuan and beyond.

Abstract

The condition of learning in the post-pandemic era varies; although the learning process can be fully offline, some universities do blended learning. A blended learning system also happened in UIN Syahada Padangsidimpuan. This paper aims to inform the needs of students in learning research in ELT subjects; it was one of the subjects distributed to English students at this university. The data were taken using mixed-method methods, and the data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. 61 (sixty-one) students filled out the questionnaires, and 10 (ten) students were asked to get interviews. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. After analyzing the data, it was found that the students liked to study using several methods. Although they have been stated to study with several methods, the highest percentage is Project-based Learning (PjBL). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the students need the PjBL in learning Research in English Language Teaching (RELT) subject matter. The students agreed that this learning method could prepare them to write a final task in their study

Abstract

The objective of the research is to examine the students’ vocabulary mastery by playing Kahoot platform media. A quantitative research was employed where the research involved 33 students as samples. The data was obtained through test from third semester students of undergraduate program English Education Department (TBI-2) Teacher Training Faculty IAIN Padangsidimpuan in 2019/ 2020 academic year. In sum, the students’ vocabulary mastery by using the application which names Kahoot platform media included into enough category by getting 43.82 score. The hypothesis formed was rejected based on the proof. Therefore, the students’ vocabulary mastery by using Kahoot platform media was not suitable with the researcher’s hope.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Penelitian ini mengangkat masalah penguasaan kosa kata bahasa Inggris mahasiswa Program STudi Tadris Bahasa Inggris STAIN Padangsidimpuan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dimana peneliti ingin mendeskripsikan tentang penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris mahasiswa. Dari hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa mahasiswa lemah dalam memahami kosa kata terkaitdalam penggunaan prefix, suffix, synonym, antonym, polisemy, homonym dan hyponym. Dalam mengatasi masalah tersebut dosen menjelaskan dan memberikan contoh – contoh tambahan serta memberikan tugas - tugas terkait, dan juga selalu memebrikan motivasi agar mahasiswa belajar dengan lebih baik.Key Word:    Analysis, Students’ Ability, Vocabulary, and Understanding Vocabulary

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know students’ learning anxiety at VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Padangsidimpuan. Learning anxiety is one of the negative factors that affect the language learning process. This research employed descriptive method. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Padangsidimpuan. The total sample is 74 students taken by using random sampling. The researcher used 33 items of questionnaire for learning anxiety which adopted from Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) was developed by Horwitz and Cope. Questionnaire items were analyzed based on several indicators namely communication apprehension, fear of negative evaluation, test anxiety, English classroom anxiety. The score determined whether the anxiety level is very anxious level, anxious, midly anxious, relaxed and very relaxed level. The result showed that the VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Padangsidimpuan was in very anxious category. It was proved by the students’ acquisition score which the highest score was 158, the lowest score was 98 and mean score was 130,45. The finding could be conclude that generally students categorized into very anxious level.

Abstract

Speaking is a dominant skill needed by English lecturer to support their teaching learning process. P2B Lecturer (Language Development Center) at IAIN Padangsidimpuan worked with IALF (Indonesia Australia Language Foundation) BALI a Center to develop language for teachers, lecturers, students and the public. P2B and IALF BALI coordinated holding training once in one semester for lecturers to refresh their abilities and knowledge in order to remain in a very good level. One of the mentors or trainers from IALF BALI came and became a mentor for lecturers in a special class. As a result, the effectiveness of the training was indeed very useful for lecturers to be reused in their next class. Many knowledge, methods, techniques, and games (games) are fun to improve the language skills of students and lecturers.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berbicara tentang peningkatan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks laporan melalui teknik clustering pada kelas XI SMAN 1 Siabu, masalah siswa dalam kemampuan menulis adalah siswa tidak memiliki gagasan untuk menulis, siswa tidak dapat mengembangkan gagasan untuk menulis, siswa tidak tertarik untuk menulis bahasa Inggris dan guru bahasa inggris tidak memiliki teknik yang tepat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan prestasi belajar siswa dalam menulis teks laporan dan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi penulisan laporan teks siswa dengan teknik clustering pada kelas XI SMAN 1 Siabu. Metode penelitian adalah tindakan kelas dengan menerapkan Kemmis dan Mc Taggart yang dirancang yang terdiri dari empat tahap. Itu adalah rencana, tindakan, amati, dan renungkan. Selain itu, untuk mengatasi masalah penulisan teks tulisan, peneliti menerapkan teknik clustering. Peserta penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas XI IPA3 SMAN 1 Siabu yang terdiri 28 siswa. Instrumen pengumpulan data adalah tes dan observasi. Teknik analisis data adalah mean score dan t-test. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks laporan melalui penerapan teknik clustering. Skor rata-rata siswa menunjukkan peningkatan penulisan teks laporan siswa. Hasil uji pertama pada siklus I adalah 58,92 (25%) dan uji kedua pada siklus II adalah 83,28 (89,28%). Skor rata-rata siklus kedua lebih tinggi dari siklus pertama. Penerapan teknik clustering dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks laporan pada kelas XI IPA 3 SMAN 1 Siabu, artinya hipotesis dapat diterima.
