Abstract

This research aims to explain the use of appositive endocentric phrases in the online media opinion "Literature is officially entered in the school curriculum as an effort to grow literacy skills" May 21 2024 Edition. This statement contains the pattern and format of appositive endocentric phrases. Contains all important sentences used in the Indonesian online media "Literature is officially entered in the school curriculum as an effort to grow literacy skills" May 21 2024 Edition, is the object of this research. Data collection techniques use library, reading and note-taking methods. This research reveals that there are many types of phrases including appositive endocentric phrases. This research helps develop a syntactic theory of phrases, especially appositive endocentric phrases, and expands our knowledge of appositive endocentric phrases.

Abstract

Sentences are fundamental in language learning. Indeed, it is mainly through sentences that speakers can express their meaning completely and clearly. Linguistic units that we already know before reaching the sentence level are words (for example, I don't know) and phrases or groups of words (for example, I don't know). Words and phrases cannot express meaning completely and clearly unless they function in a subordinate sentence or as a response to a statement. Types of Sentences According to the Completeness of their Elements. Viewed in terms of the completeness of their elements, they are divided into two, namely perfect sentences (major) and incomplete sentences (minor).

Abstract

This research aims to describe the types of noun clauses found in the Detik newspaper on 12 May 2024. Noun clauses, active verbs, and prepositions are types of clauses that are classified according to the type of filler in the predicate function. Listening and taking notes were the data collection methods used. Qualitative descriptive analysis was used to analyze research data. Based on the predicate function of noun clauses, the researchers found that there were 3 noun clause data in the detik news newspaper. However, not only the noun clauses in this newspaper contain Adjectival Clauses, Independent Equative Clauses, Negative Equative Clauses, Main Clauses, Subordinate Clauses, Relative Clauses, Independent Verbal Clauses, and Verbal Clauses.

Abstract

This study delves into investigating the impact of social media utilization on enhancing TOEFL proficiency among medical students. In an era where digital platforms have revolutionized communication and learning, this study examines how integrating social media tools into language learning environments can contribute to a more engaging and relevant educational experience. The focus on medical students is particularly pertinent, given the critical role adequate English language proficiency plays in their future medical careers, where precise communication is essential. The researchers used a descriptive survey design because this study aimed to obtain detailed information about the use of Social Media (SM) in improving TOEFL proficiency from medical students' perspective. The study included 46 students, with 15 of them being men (32.61%) and 31 women (67.39%). Participants were asked to complete an electronic questionnaire distributed through their subject's WhatsApp group voluntarily. For medical students, social media platforms can be incredibly beneficial to enhance their TOEFL learning experience. These platforms offer a broader range of communication and interaction opportunities that can aid in improving English proficiency. Furthermore, utilizing social media can assist in integrating the language into daily life. The future research will be especially beneficial for students who are not majoring in English, as it will enable them to overcome their fears and improve their overall learning experience in English as a Foreign Language.

Abstract

Social networks are part of communication media. Instagram is a social network that has many users, its users range from children to the elderly. Social networks centered on photo and video platforms are currently experiencing extraordinary popularity, but it cannot be denied that different impacts can occur due to each person's reaction. As a social networking user, various impacts can arise, such as impolite language and violating the rules of politeness. The results of this analysis show that there is language impoliteness of internet users in the comments column of the @lambe_turah Instagram account regarding the news"Lulu Tobing is suing Bani Mulia for divorce again after reconciliation, now undergoing first mediation session"thus causing a violation of the principles of politeness proposed by Leech which include six maxims, namely the maxim of wisdom, the maxim of generosity, the maxim of appreciation, the maxim of politeness, the maxim of approval, and the maxim of sympathy.

Abstract

Folklore based on local culture has a mandate as the author's message to the reader (listener), because it has ethnic sensitivity in understanding local culture as cultural identity. The study uses the opinion of Dundes (1965:2) Bruvand (1965), Danandjaja (1997) and the concept of mandate according to Bascom in Danandjaja (1995:3-20). Miles and Huberman's (2007) qualitative research methodology includes data collection of folklore texts, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. Based on the analysis of folklore data from a book entitled 'Halilian: Turi-turian Hi Halak Sipirok Banggo-banggo' by H. Abdurrahman Ritonga (2006). Folklore has a very strong ethnic bias in folklore which functions to bring closer to indigenous peoples who are rooted in characters. The mandate in the Sipirok folklore is a message based on the knowledge of the author who wants to be conveyed to others through the intermediary of the story said or composed. Through the stories, attitudes and behavior of the characters, readers are expected to be able to take lessons from the messages conveyed and mandated by the mandate as messages conveyed by the author through the behavior of folklore characters essentially, messages that educate readers. The message contained in the Sipirok folklore text as essential in educating Based on the folklore data entitled Anthology Book: 'Halilian: Turi-turian ni Halak Sipirok Banggo-banggo which has the form: Bittot Van De Longas, the results of the analysis of the text found the following messages: a ) mandate to love each other, b) mandate to live a life of concern for lack, c) mandate to empathize, d) befall (unfortunate fate of characters), e) mandate to be humble, f) mandate to work hard, g) to (not) be wise in the story message the people of Angkola.

Abstract

This study identified the challenges faced by students in writing persuasive texts, as well as exploring the potential for implementing PBL to improve writing skills. This research was conducted using the classroom action research method in class VIII SMP Negeri 11 Medan in the 2022/2023 academic year with a total of 32 students. Actions taken by applying the Problem-Based Learning learning model. This research was conducted in two cycles. Based on the results of research on student activity, it was found that the average value of student activity at the first meeting was 65.15%, at the second meeting, the percentage of activity value was 77.07%. The average value of student activity at meeting III was 70.09%, including the active category. Meanwhile, at the fourth meeting, the percentage of activity values ​​was 72.66% and if it was included in the criteria for student activity, this student activity was included in the active category. Overall, if an average of each cycle is obtained, the results of persuasive text writing skills have increased from 71.61% (active enough category) in cycle I to 71.37% (active category) in cycle II, which means an increase of 9. 76 %. Thus it can be seen that the Problem Based Learning learning model can improve the skills of writing persuasive texts and students understand learning material more easily.

Abstract

Dalam penelitian ini peneliti mengangkat rumusan masalah adalah bagaimana pengaruh metode eksperimen terhadap kemampuan menulis teks negoisasi pada siswa kelas X Madrasyah aliyah Swasta Sidikalang Tahun Pembelajaran 2022/2023. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pembelajarn menggunakan media animasi berbasis web terhadap kemampuan menulis teks negoisasi pada siswa kelas X Madrasyah Aliyah Swasta Sidikalang Tahun Pembelajaran 2022/2023. Populasi adalah seluruh siswa kelas X Madrasyah Aliyah Swasta Sidikalang yang berjumlah 50 siswa. Sedangkan sampel diambil sebanyak dua kelas, yaitu 25 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol yang menggunakan model konvesional dan 25 orang siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan model pembelajaran eksperimen. Berdasarkan analisis data yang dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa dalam penelitian “Ada pembelajarn menggunakan media animasi berbasis web terhadap kemampuan menulis teks negoisasi pada siswa kelas X Madrasyah Aliyah Swasta Sidikalang”. Pelaksanaan penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan metode eksperimen untuk melihat ada pengaruh perbedaan antara dua variabel. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah berupa tes. Sedangkan teknik analisis data menggunakan Liliefors dan mencari t-hitung.Berdasarkan hasil analisis uji statistik penelitian ini telah menjawab hipotesis yakni: memperoleh nilai rata-rata perbedaan antara tes kelas kontrol dengan rata-rata 70 dengan kategori baik dan nilai tes eksperimen dengan rata-rata 83,48 dengan kategori sangat baik dan diperoleh nilai t-hitung 5,65 dan t-tabel 1,6677, maka t-hitung t-tabel. Dari hasil terssbut maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa “Hipotesis diterima” artinya ada pengaruh pembelajaran menggunakan media animasi berbasis web terhadap kemampuan menulis teks negoisasi pada siswa kelas X Madrasyah Aliyah Swasta Sidikalang Tahun Pembelajaran 2022/2023Dalam penelitian ini peneliti mengangkat rumusan masalah adalah bagaimana pengaruh metode eksperimen terhadap kemampuan menulis teks negoisasi pada siswa kelas X Madrasyah aliyah Swasta Sidikalang Tahun Pembelajaran 2022/2023. Abstract

This research aims to describe the skills in writing lecture texts by utilizing audio-visual media through the CapCut application for class The research sample consisted of students from class XI IPA 1 as an experimental group with a total of 30 students and class XI IPA 2 as a control group with a total of 35 students. The instrument used for data collection was a test instrument in the form of essay questions. The results of this research, in the experimental class the average value obtained was 87.53 and the average value in the control class was 77.37. Meanwhile, the results of hypothesis testing with the t-test obtained a tcount value of 6.23 with a df of 63 in ttable, so a ttable value was obtained of 1.66, thus it can be seen that tcount > ttable (6.23 > 1.66). From the results of these calculations, it can be interpreted that Ha in this study was accepted and HO was rejected, which means that there is an influence of the use of audio-visual media through the CapCut application on the lecture text writing skills of class.
