Abstract

The determination of the beginning of Hijri months in Indonesia reflects significant diversity, particularly in the methods adopted by different Muslim organizations. This study aims to examine the potential conflicts arising from the implementation of the new Imkān al-Ru’yah criteria in Indonesia and to compare them with the criteria used in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews and literature analysis. The collected data is analyzed through content analysis to understand the underlying factors contributing to the differences in Hijri month determination. The findings indicate that the new Imkān al-Ru’yah criteria have intensified long-standing disputes due to variations in crescent visibility in the eastern hemisphere. Key discrepancies arise from differences in hisab criteria, interpretations of Islamic legal principles regarding Ulil Amri, and the symbolic meaning of the crescent moon. The study also reveals that Muhammadiyah’s KHGT criteria align with those of Saudi Arabia, whereas the new Mabims criteria differ from those of Saudi Arabia. This study provides a comparative analysis of Hijri month determination criteria across multiple countries, highlighting the underlying theological and astronomical factors that shape different methodologies. The research offers insights into the complexities of Hijri calendar determination in Indonesia and contributes to discussions on standardizing crescent sighting criteria. The findings may serve as a basis for fostering greater alignment among Islamic organizations and regional authorities.

Abstract

Abstrac The industry has experienced a very rapid revolution phase, namely industry 4.0, this has consequences for science and sharia education to be able to prepare individuals who have competence in facing various challenges in the future by applying or producing a work that is a symbol of scientific dialectics. This research is a library research using a descriptive qualitative method approach that connects the existing theory with the descriptive reality of astronomy today. Astrology is the most important part in the history of Islamic civilization. History has recorded that scholars and Al-Falaky (a title for astronomy activists) emerged when Islamic civilization was at its golden peak and when Islam experienced a decline, the echo of astronomy was no longer heard, even today many Muslims do not know the term "the science of astronomy". This phenomenon indicates that there is a positive correlation between the establishment of Islamic civilization and the development of Islam which is a symbol of astronomy science which is a reflection of the existence of Islam. Therefore, there is a need for a transformation/revolution of the astronomy learning movement that does not only revolve at the theoretical level, but also application and inspiring learning methods by utilizing the development of industrial media 4.0 to introduce astronomy and strengthen astronomy learning. The scientific transformation is at least able to touch three scientific dimensions, namely the intellectual dimension, the spiritual dimension and the socio-political dimension. Keywords: Transformation, Astrology Learning, industry 4.0.

Abstract

Abstract

Differences of opinion regarding the determination of dawn time in Indonesia have become increasingly prominent, especially after Salafi groups claimed that the dawn time determined by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (KEMENAG RI) using the -20° criterion is 15–23 minutes too early. In response, Muhammadiyah conducted further research based on the recommendations of the 27th National Conference of Tarjih (Munas Tarjih) held on April 1–4, 2010. The research led to the Tanfidz Decision of the XXXI Tarjih National Conference, which concluded that the previously used dawn criterion was too early by about 8 minutes. As a result, Muhammadiyah adopted the -18° criterion as a more accurate standard and instructed all levels of its organization to follow this guideline in determining prayer times. This study aims to analyze the level of understanding and compliance among Muhammadiyah members regarding the Tanfidz Decision on the -18° dawn criterion. It also seeks to identify the obstacles faced in implementing the decision, particularly by mosque administrators in Muhammadiyah mosques in Gowa Regency. Using a qualitative approach and a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation of dawn time practices. The findings show that most Muhammadiyah members in Gowa Regency understand and comply with the new guideline. However, several technical and social challenges remain, including limited access to precise observational tools and varying levels of understanding among mosque administrators. Nevertheless, the majority of Muhammadiyah mosques have made efforts to implement the -18° criterion in accordance with the directives of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership.

Abstract

This study discusses the role of the Makassar City Religious Affairs Office (KUA) in preventing marital violations based on the principle of maṣlaḥah mursalah. The aim is to obtain a complete picture of the position of the Religious Affairs Office (KUA) as the front guard in resolving various problems and marital violations in the community. This study is qualitative using a descriptive phenomenological approach. Data were obtained from two types of sources, namely primary sources and secondary sources. Primary sources are carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation whereas secondary sources are in the form of certain documents, standard books, articles, or other materials related to the topic studied. Interviews were conducted with the Head of KUA, Penghulu, and office staff. This study involved five KUA in Makassar City with a case study approach that was analyzed in depth through the principle of maṣlaḥah mursalah. This study found that the KUA in Makassar City has played an active role in taking various strategic steps to realize flexible marriage law policies that are in line with the dynamics and needs of society. Other policies that have also been implemented include the formation of a special team, the implementation of routine studies on Islamic marriage law, and increasing cooperation with research institutions. This policy is implemented to make marriage law relevant and responsive to social change. All of this is evidence that in addition to being a public service institution, the KUA in Makassar has also played a role in maintaining legal flexibility so that it remains in line with the interests of the wider community.

Abstract

This study aims to map the development of scientific literature on Islamic law through a bibliographic review approach to 201 articles published between 2012 and 2025. All articles were categorized as final stage articles, written in English, and analyzed in the context of the social sciences (Subject Area: Social Sciences). The focus of the study was on key topics such as Islamic Law, Fiqh, Islamic Jurisprudence, Sharia, Islamic Finance, Maslahah, Maqasid al-Shari'ah, and Shariʿah Compliance. Bibliographic data were obtained from indexed scientific literature and cleaned using OpenRefine software to ensure consistency of information related to titles, authors, affiliations, and keywords. The articles were published in 84 different scholarly journals, all of which were categorized as Open Access, either Gold or Hybrid Open Access, demonstrating the open access to Islamic legal knowledge globally. The analysis showed that the publications came from authors with affiliations spread across different countries, with a total of more than 20 countries. The three countries with the highest contributions to the literature are Indonesia (91 publications), Malaysia (26 publications), and Turkey (14 publications). This indicates the academic dominance of the Southeast Asian and West Asian regions in contemporary Islamic law discourse. The results of the analysis also show that the themes of Islamic Law and Fiqh are the most dominant in the titles of publications, while topics such as Maqasid al-Shari'ah and Shariʿah Compliance, although not yet prominent in frequency, show significant potential in the development of applied studies, especially in the fields of Islamic finance and contemporary legal policy. This study contributes to the mapping of academic trends in Islamic law and identifies publication gaps that can serve as a basis for further research based on a bibliometric approach.

Abstract

The controversy surrounding Islamic preaching (da'wah) involving a prominent religious figure in Indonesia, Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman, well known as Gus Miftah, arose from his use of the word "Goblok" toward an iced tea seller during a religious gathering (pengajian), which became a topic of public discourse on social media at the end of 2024. The statement triggered a polarized response on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Meta, reflecting the dynamics of social and religious values in digital media discourse. This study aims to analyze netizens' responses to the controversy surrounding Gus Miftah's statement as a form of preaching discourse on social media. Using discourse analysis, the study's results showed a polarization of netizen responses into two groups: critical expressions and support. Those who expressed criticism highlighted violations of moral and social norms, while those who supported Gus Miftah's statement emphasized the need to contextualize it properly to avoid misunderstanding.
