Abstract

This study aims to assess the availability of public green open spaces (GOS) in North Tapin District and to calculate the required GOS based on current population size, land area, and projected demographic growth up to the year 2044. Employing a quantitative descriptive methodology, the research utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial analysis complemented by field observations and ground truthing to ensure data accuracy. The study area includes all public green open spaces within the district boundaries. Results reveal that the total public GOS area is approximately 35.82 hectares, representing 5.48% of the district’s total land area—substantially below the minimum regulatory standard of 20%. Population projections indicate a future GOS demand of 72.16 hectares by 2044, highlighting a significant shortfall in current provision. These findings demonstrate that North Tapin District’s existing green open spaces are insufficient to meet both present and anticipated needs, underscoring the urgent requirement for strategic urban planning interventions to expand and optimize green space allocation.

Sebelum kegiatan rata-rata pemahaman peserta didik sebesar 62% sedangkan setelah kegiatan menjadi meningkat 93%. Dengan demikian, tingkat pemahaman peserta didik akan potensi kebakaran permukiman sudah sangat baik setelah dilaksanakan kegiatan pengabdian. Kata kunci: potensi; kebakaran permukiman; buku saku. AbstractResidential fires often occur in Banjarmasin City. The cause is due to lack of knowledge, public awareness, socialization and organization from the authorities. Efforts to increase early understanding of the potential for residential fires include the development of a handbook. The socialization aims to increase students' understanding of the potential of residential fires. Participants involved in community service activities include the principal, teachers, and 55 students at SMAN 8 Banjarmasin. The activities to be carried out use the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method. The implementation consists of introduction, needs analysis, handbook design, development of the Settlement Fire Disaster Preparedness handbook, material sharing, evaluation of activity results, and reports. The results of the activity are presented in two major stages. First, the delivery of material and discussion was carried out in order to provide students at SMAN 8 Banjarmasin with an understanding of fire disasters in Banjarmasin City. Second, the evaluation of activities regarding the understanding of students was carried out by distributing questionnaires before and after the activities. Before the activity, the average understanding of students was 62% while after the activity it increased to 93%. Thus, the level of understanding of students about the potential of residential fires is very good after the implementation of service activities. Keywords: potential; residential fires; handbook

Abstract

The Independent Learning Curriculum is the main foundation in educational innovation in Indonesia, and challenges teachers to try to develop adaptive and responsive learning strategies to student needs, so to understand teachers' efforts to face these challenges, this study explores innovative learning strategies used by MGMP Geography teachers in Banjarmasin City in the context of the implementation of the Independent Learning Curriculum. The research employed a quantitative approach, involving structured interviews with 48 geography teachers who had implemented the Independent Learning Curriculum, as well as classroom observations and the analysis of learning documents. The analysis was carried out thematically to identify patterns of learning strategies that emerged. The results show that most geography teachers use a variety of innovative strategies, including the use of technology to support online and offline learning, the integration of field projects, and the implementation of problem-based learning. Adapting learning strategies to the needs of students and the challenges faced in implementing the Independent Learning Curriculum is crucial, as geography teachers play a vital role in leading learning transformation through a responsive and progressive approach. The results of the research are expected to provide valuable insights into effective learning practices within the new curriculum, and to lay a foundation for the development of more adaptive and relevant learning strategies.

Abstract

Understanding students’ learning styles is essential for designing responsive higher education curricula. This study aims to map university students’ learning styles and propose an adaptive curriculum framework for geography education in Indonesia.A descriptive quantitative design was employed. Data were collected from a stratified sample of 100 undergraduate students (cohorts 2019–2022; 45% male, 55% female) at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat using Kolb’s Learning Style Inventory (LSI). Outliers (Z |3|) were removed prior to analysis. Descriptive statistics were used to identify the distribution of learning styles and mean scores across learning dimensions. The distribution of learning styles was dominated by Converging (52%), followed by Accommodating (24%), Assimilating (17%), and Diverging (7%). Mean dimension scores were AE = 23.09, AC = 21.81, CE = 19.15, and RO = 18.81, indicating a preference for active experimentation and abstract conceptualization. These findings suggest a tendency toward problem-solving and practical application among students.Based on the identified profiles and relevant literature, a conceptual adaptive curriculum model is proposed, integrating experiential learning, technology-enhanced instruction, and local geographical contexts. Such alignment may improve engagement and learning outcomes by accommodating diverse preferences.Mapping learning styles provides a basis for curriculum adaptation in geography education. However, the findings are limited by the single-institution sample, reliance on self-reported data, and ongoing theoretical debates surrounding learning-style models. Further experimental research is needed to validate the proposed framework.
