Abstract

This research aims to analyse how the technopolitical communication of President Prabowo Subianto's administration during the first 200 days was framed by the media through the Google News aggregator platform. Current research on presidential political communication strategies in Indonesia is only directed towards the context of social media and artificial intelligence. This research fills the gap in studies on political communication strategies mediated by aggregator platforms. Using Robert M. Entman's framing analysis with a qualitative descriptive approach, this research examines how the media frames the government's use of technology. The Entman model divides the framing process into four stages: defining the problem, diagnosing the cause, making a moral judgement, and suggesting a remedy. Data were obtained from a collection of news articles about Prabowo Subianto's administration indexed on Google News within the first 200 days of his administration. The number of news articles analysed in the study was 144 articles. The researchers divided the news into two phases: the first 0-100 days with six relevant articles and the 100-200 days phase with nine articles. The results of this study dissect the shift in Prabowo's administration narrative from a focus on morality in the first 100 days to ambitions of nuclear and digital technocracy in the following 100 days. This research underscores the narrative of the government's rise in high-level technology within the global technopolitical regime. The President has a sociotechnical imagination for various solutions to the nation's problems, even though he must face the threat of new extractivism and false reification.

Abstract

The Indonesian Football Federation or PSSI has been trying to implement video assistant referee (VAR) since the technology was introduced in 2018. The technology has the potential to improve the quality of referee decisions and produce fair matches. There are several obstacles that make PSSI have to postpone the implementation of VAR until 2024. This research aims to explain the chronology of PSSI facing various obstacles to implementing VAR technology. The research findings show the role of PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir as the holder of the political determinism aspect of technology. Technological determinism is not the main driver of change in society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the framing of Patrick Kluivert's coaching news in the online media Detik.com after the change of Indonesian national team coach in early 2025. The method used is descriptive interpretative with a qualitative approach through observation and documentation techniques on 17 news items for the period January–October 2025. The analysis was conducted using the Pan and Kosicki framing model which includes syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures. The results show that Detik.com tends to frame Patrick Kluivert positively by emphasizing his professional, tactical, and hard-working image, although still presenting criticism of match results. Syntactically, the use of interesting titles and quotes maintains an objective impression. In the script and thematic structure, the media emphasizes strategy and professionalism, while rhetorically uses positive diction and appreciative sentences to strengthen the image. In addition, there is an application of agenda setting by highlighting certain aspects to shape public opinion. This study confirms that the media plays an important role in building perceptions through the choice of perspectives and language in sports reporting.

Abstract

The development of democracy in Indonesia has been marked by the emergence of political volunteer movements, which serve as a base of support for candidates outside the formal party structure. The emergence of these political volunteer movements signals public dissatisfaction with existing political parties. Political volunteer movements represent a new approach to garnering public support and fostering active participation. Political volunteers signify increased public engagement in democracy, boosting participation beyond the conventional parliamentary system. Political volunteers emerge from value-based politics, which has a positive impact on candidates as well as public political behavior. The presence of political volunteers in supporting a candidate during an election is crucial and essential. They serve as the candidate’s primary support base for communicating their vision and mission and mobilizing support. One group of political volunteers that has emerged in the political landscape of the 2024 presidential and vice-presidential election is the Bolone Mase volunteers. This study aims to examine in depth how the Bolone Mase volunteers formulate their political communication strategies in Surakarta, Central Java a city where the Prabowo-Gibran ticket secured a significant lead in votes. This phenomenon presents intriguing characteristics worthy of further research. The political communication strategies of the Bolone Mase volunteers are the primary focus of this study. This research aims to delve deeper into how the Bolone Mase political volunteers design their political communication strategies, including their communication methods, the types of messages they convey, the platforms they use, and the role of lobbying techniques.

Abstract

People often refer to smart cities as the "panacea" for global urban problems, particularly in Southeast Asia. The central government supports Semarang City, one of Indonesia's leading cities, in its efforts to become a smart city pioneer. On the other hand, interested parties, including the regional head, can use smart cities for promotion and marketing. This study uses content analysis and word frequency analysis to identify the stakeholders most featured in online mass media news. The study specifically pinpoints the prominence of regional heads in the news. The study's findings reveal that various news elements link regional leaders to smart cities, serving as a tool for their political outreach. Regional heads can communicate effectively and convince the public as well as constituents. The government and the public can interact using smart city programs, in addition to involving business sector stakeholders. However, Semarang City still has a limited number of stakeholders, particularly the mass media and universities. Regional heads can embrace cross-stakeholders by using the smart city program as a slogan.
