Abstract

In a literary work, two characters can be narrated as the attention center that contains the cultural identity from certain generation. Meanwhile, a symbol actually can cause an interaction within characters. This research discusses about cultural identity and symbolic interactionism reflected in a novel. There is a novel entitled “Recipe for a Perfect Wife” by Karma Brown that tells about two female characters that are represented as a housewife from different generation. This research uses descriptive qualitative as the research methodology and content analysis as the method in analyzing the object of the research, a novel entitled “Recipe for a Perfect Wife”. This research also uses the intrinsic approach to analyze the characterization, plot, and setting. This research reveals two kinds of a housewife. They are a housewife and working woman, and a full-housewife. This research finds five cultural identities in the past and present time that is related with a housewife reflected by two female characters in the novel by using cultural identity theory by Stuart Hall. This research also reveals the symbol and memory even three concepts of symbolic interactionism that is mind, self, and society based on symbolic interactionism theory by George Herbert Mead.

Abstract

Nowadays, people can easily access everything with one-click away. For example, when you want to read an article in foreign language which you are not familiar with, then you just need to open Google Translate and within seconds, you will get the translation of it. To deal with that reality, a translator has to differentiate himself from machine translation which is increasingly used by the public. Therefore, the translator is required to produce an equivalent and natural translation in the Target Language. This research aims to provide understanding of translation equivalence on video transcripts conducted by students in Movie Translation (Subtitling) course. This study uses qualitative approach, content analysis method, and purposive sampling to collect data. In short, there are two types of translation equivalence used by students, formal and dynamic. Formal equivalence focuses on the similarity of the form and meaning of the message from Source Language to Target Language, while dynamic one focuses on the naturalness of expression in the Target Language.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh pemahaman yang mendalam tentang pembelajaran menulis eksposisi bahasa Inggris melalui strategi Think Quest Project yang berlangsung di SMA Labschool Jakarta. Penelitian ini mencakup bahasan yang terkait dengan aspek – aspek penting dalam melangsungkan pembelajaran menulis eksposisi bahasa Inggris melalui strategi Think Quest Project yang terdiri dari: tujuan pembelajaran, materi pembelajaran, metode pembelajaran, media pembelajaran, system penilaian dan tema budaya yang terbentuk. Kata kunci: Think Quest, Eksposisi, strategi pembelajaran.

Abstract

Isu perundungan merupakan masalah sosial yang sering terjadi di masyarakat. Anak kecil hingga orang dewasa bisa menjadi target perundungan. Perundungan menyebabkan kerusakan pada mental seseorang. Kerusakan tersebut dapat mempengaruhi struktur kepribadian mereka dan juga menyebabkan trauma yang berkepanjangan. Auggie adalah seorang anak sepuluh tahun yang terlahir berbeda mengalami perundungan di sekolah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis struktur kepribabubun August Pullman atau biasa dipanggil Auggie dengan menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra yaitu struktur kepribadian Sigmund Freud. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Objek penelitian ini adalah naskah film Wonder karya Stephen Chbosky. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut, penjabaran tentang keseimbangan struktur kepribadian Auggie Pullman dalam naskah film Wonder. Skenario film Wonder bisa memberi kita gambaran untuk menghargai seseorang yang terlahir berbeda. Dalam naskah film ini, Auggie Pullman menyampaikan pesan bahwa kebaikan dan keberanian bisa datang dalam berbagai bentuk. Auggie Pullman juga menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan dapat digunakan dengan cara yang benar.Keywords: Struktur kepribadian, Psikoanalisis, Naskah Film Wonder, August Pullman, Sigmund Freud Bullying is a social problem that often occurs in society. Children to adults can be targets of bullying. Bullying causes mental damage to a person. Such damage can affect the structure of their personality and also cause prolonged trauma. Auggie is a ten-year-old boy who was born differently to being bullied at school. This study aims to analyze the personality structure of August Pullman or commonly called Auggie by using a literary psychology approach, namely Sigmund Freud's personality structure. This research use desciptive qualitative approach. The object of this research is the Wonder film script by Stephen Chbosky. The results of this study are as follows, a description of the balance of Auggie Pullman's personality structure in the Wonder film script. Wonder's screenplay can give us an idea to appreciate someone who was born different. In this film's script, Auggie Pullman conveys the message that kindness and courage can come in many forms. Abstract

The aim of the research entitled Code Switching and Code Mixing Used by Gitasav on Her Interview in the Indah G Show Video is to identify the types of code switching and code mixing used by GitaSav. There are three types of code switching, they are Intra-Sentential Switching, Inter-Sentential Switching, and Tag switching. Then for Code Mixing there are three types, namely Insertion, Alternation, and Congruen Lexicalization. In addition, this research seeks to find out what type is most often used by Gitasav in her speech. As a descriptive and qualitative research, the data was collected from the utterances spoken by GitaSav in an interview video uploaded on the YouTube channel The Indah G Show. Out of 37 data found for code switching, intra-sentential is the type most widely used by Gita Sav, whereas from all 21 data found for code mixing, insertion was the most frequently used type.

Abstract

Komunikasi nonverbal telah didefinisikan sebagai komunikasi tanpa kata. Ini mencakup perilaku yang tampak seperti ekspresi wajah, mata, sentuhan, dan nada suara, serta pesan yang kurang jelas seperti pakaian, postur, dan jarak spasial antara dua orang atau lebih. Semuanya berkomunikasi, termasuk objek material, ruang fisik, dan sistem waktu. Meskipun output verbal dapat dimatikan, nonverbal tidak bisa. Bahkan diam pun berbicara. "Hal terpenting dalam komunikasi adalah mendengar apa yang tidak dikatakan." – Peter F. Drucker, Dalam berkomunikasi tidak semua bahasa di komunikasikan lewat berbicara, terkadang sesuatu diekspresikan dengan Bahasa tubuh atau gesture yang dapat membawa lebih banyak makna dan bobot daripada apa yang dikatakan, kata-kata itu sendiri. Disertai dengan senyuman atau cemberut, diucapkan dengan suara keras, memarahi atau lembut, isi komunikasi kita dibingkai oleh persepsi holistik kita tentang konteksnya. Komunikasi secara umum adalah proses pengiriman dan penerimaan pesan yang memungkinkan manusia untuk berbagi pengetahuan, sikap, dan keterampilan. Meskipun kita biasanya mengidentifikasi komunikasi dengan ucapan, komunikasi terdiri dari dua dimensi - verbal dan nonverbal. Kata Kunci: non verbal, komunikasi, holistic, berbicara, tanpa kata Nonverbal communication has been defined as communication without words. This includes visible behaviors such as facial expressions, eyes, touch, and tone of voice, as well as less obvious messages such as clothing, posture, and the spatial distance between two or more people. Everything communicates, including material objects, physical space, and time systems. Although verbal output can be turned off, but not in nonverbal. Even silence speaks. "The most important thing in communication is to hear what is not said." – Peter F. Drucker, In communicating not all languages are communicated through speaking, sometimes something is expressed with body language or gestures that can carry more meaning and weight than what is said, the words themselves. Accompanied by a smile or a frown, spoken aloud, scolding or soft, the content of our communication is framed by our holistic perception of its context. Communication in general is the process of sending and receiving messages that enable humans to share knowledge, attitudes, and skills. Although we usually identify communication with speech, communication consists of two dimensions - verbal and nonverbal. Keywords: non-verbal, communication, holistic, speaking, without words.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that the quality of the teaching of the English for Tourism needs to be improved by modifying learning patterns and materials that are more suited to the character of Generation Z. The aim of this research is to provide an overview of the learning process for courses related to tourism so that it matches with the characters of generation Z. This research was carried out using descriptive and experimental methods. It is called descriptive because the researchers describe the learning conditions according to the theme of this research and the completeness of the learning documents. Meanwhile, this research is called experimental because the researcher carried out practical teaching experiences with ideas and learning processes that suit the character and psychological nuances of Generation Z. The results of this research are modifications to the Semester Learning Plan or RPS which was prepared before the experiment was carried out; so that an activity model and learning materials that are appropriate to the research theme were obtained. It is hoped that the results of this research can provide inspiration for similar learning in other courses.

Abstract

Sebagai salah satu kemampuan berbahasa yang paling menonjol, kemampuan berbicara percakapan bahasa Inggris sederhana menjadi fokus utama kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang telah kami laksanakan. Kegiatan pengabdian pada artikel kali ini berjudul Pembelajaran Percakapan Sederhana untuk anak pengajian Al-Quran di Masjid Al Basyariah. Dengan demikian, subjek pembelajaran pada kegiatan ini bukanlah orang dewasa melainkan anak-anak berusia 8-10 tahun. Berbekal pengalaman belajar bahasa Inggris yang sangat minim dan usia siswa yang masih sangat dini, kegiatan pengabdian ini menjadi tantangan menarik bagi pelaksana kegiatan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan minimal tentang bahasa Inggris sekaligus meletakkan landasan yang kuat sebagai titik awal pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang lebih lengkap dan kompleks. Kegiatan pembelajaran yang hanya berlangsung sebanyak 14 kali pertemuan tatap muka ini memenuhi sejumlah 8 tema pokok percakapan yang dipadukan dalam berbagai kegiatan antara lain latihan berbicara dan evaluasi pembelajaran. Kegiatan ini mendapat sambutan baik dari pengurus masjid dan orang tua santri yang belajar. Oleh karena itu, disarankan agar kegiatan ini dapat dilaksanakan kembali pada semester berikutnya.

Abstract

This study focuses on analysing the types of grammatical mistakes found in movie script of Bad Boys for Life (2020). The main data were obtained from the script of the movie and were analysed based on the conceptual framework of grammatical mistake theory. This research is using Descriptive Qualitative Method to analyze the grammatical mistakes of some sentences from the Bad Boys for Life movie script. The data (primary) of this research are all sentences in the Bad Boys for Life movie script. Not all sentences in the script are analysed but only the ones uttered by the main characters, namely Mike and Marcus. We do certain actions in order to gather the data. These include: (1) reading the screenplay, (2) spotting grammatical errors in the script, (3) compiling the sentences that contain grammatical errors, and 4) analyzing the errors, particularly in the area of grammar, by consulting any article sources. The grammatical mistakes found are categorized into 4 types. They are: 1) Missing the auxiliary verb, 2) Problems with the subject and verb agreement, 3) Problems with the pattern of question or interrogative sentence, and 4) Other kinds of error. The analysis of the error is done descriptively by citing related references. Totally, there are 69 errors but only 19 are discussed here.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menjabarkan pengalaman mahasiswa yang berpartisipasi dalam program pertukaran budaya antara Universitas Darma Persada (UNSADA) dan Kanto Gakuin University (KGU) pada tahun 2025. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi manfaat, tantangan, dan hasil dari interaksi lintas budaya dalam konteks akademik. Data dikumpulkan melalui diskusi kelompok terfokus (FGD), observasi partisipatif, dan catatan reflektif dari 20 mahasiswa UNSADA dan 5 mahasiswa KGU. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa program ini secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi lintas budaya, kesadaran global, dan wawasan akademik mahasiswa. Tantangan seperti kecemasan budaya (culture shock) dan hambatan bahasa diidentifikasi, namun berhasil diatasi melalui dukungan institusi dan kolaborasi antar mahasiswa. Program ini berhasil menciptakan lingkungan yang inklusif, mempromosikan saling pengertian dan toleransi di antara peserta. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya program pertukaran budaya dalam pendidikan tinggi sebagai sarana untuk mempersiapkan mahasiswa menghadapi dunia yang semakin global dan menyarankan bahwa inisiatif semacam ini dapat menjadi model untuk kerja sama internasional di masa depan.
