Abstract

Water literacy, or the culmination of water-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviours, is a relatively new field of study with growing importance for sustainable water management and social water equity (McCarroll & Hamman, 2020). This study aims to analyse students' water literacy from two area in South Sumatera Indonesia, one area is from Semende which is subdistrict of Muara Enim with Indigenous Culture of water conservation and other students came from Palembang Districts which is at the same province with Semende districs, with a similar abundance of water but without Indigenous Culture. This study's samples were 439 respondents, consisting of 184 boys and 255 girls aged 11-18 years from junior and senior high school students in Palembang Municipality and Semende sub-districts of Muara Enim. There were 39 questions for measuring water literacy in the form of a Likert scale (1-5) to assess knowledge, attitude and behaviours in practical and living literacy. Social literacy was measured in the open-ended question instrument. Three of this water literacy was analysed descriptively. The results showed that practical water literacy in Semende and Palembang was significantly different but not with living water literacy. Besides, students' social water literacy in the Semende had two different answer patterns, while, in Palembang, it was more diverse with six different response patterns.

Abstract

This study examined the efficacy of collaborative teaching using a projectbased learning (PjBL) worksheet on plastic waste and climate change. The research design followed a type-II development approach, with two distinct phases: exploration and development, and collaborative teaching. The study involved five science teachers, two lecturers, and 45 seventh-grade students in three limited field trials. The study found that collaborative teaching through worksheet development could increase science teachers’ professionalism, particularly in the collegial phase. Furthermore, the study developed a valid PjBL-based worksheet on plastic waste and climate change, aligning with the 2013 curriculum for science instruction in junior high school, involving three core competencies. The research design employed a lesson study framework, which allowed for a thorough exploration of the research topic, leading to the development of effective instructional material. The findings of this study have significant implications for science education in junior high school, particularly in promoting active learning and fostering a deeper understanding of complex environmental issues. Overall, the study highlights the importance of collaborative teaching and the potential of PjBL-based worksheets in enhancing teacher competence and developing relevant instructional materials that align with the curriculum.

Abstract

The results of an interview with a science teacher in Ogan Ilir district that science teachers mastered the skills of various learning models including direct learning models. Some of the junior high school science materials are declarative or procedural. Material that is declarative or procedural requires skills that are carried out in stages of the entire series of activities displayed. The purpose of this community service activity (CSA) is to improve the ability of junior high school science teachers to master the direct teaching model, compile a direct teaching model rpp and be able to implement the direct teaching model in the classroom. The implementation of the activity is carried out in several stages, namely: 1. The preparatory stage, namely field observations and interviews with teachers, reading references to direct learning model materials, holding discussions with PPM team members, preparing training materials in the form of Power Point, approaching school staff and teachers and coordinating related parties. 2. Implementation stage, namely direct training with training methods, demonstrations and discussions and visualizations. Through CSA activities, science teachers from the Ogan Ilir MGMP groups can compile or modify direct learning models with a scientific approach. MGMP science teachers have been able to make 5 aspects of learning implementation planning (LIP), namely listing: learning indicators and objectives, organizing materials, media and learning resources, learning activity steps, and evaluating learning outcomes. Therefore, the RPP format made by mgmp science teachers in Ogan Ilir district was declared feasible. This is evident from the assessment results with all 100 values. After attending the CSA training material, participants enjoyed the material presented, felt that this material was very necessary and felt that their knowledge increased

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aimed to develop and optimise a technologically relevant non-thermal acid-induced maturation process for giant gourami by identifying effective citrus acid formulations and immersion durations that enable controlled myofibrillar protein denaturation for scientifically standardised and traditional Dekke Naniura processing. Methodology: A laboratory-based semi-controlled experimental design was applied using fresh gourami fillets immersed in organic acids derived from lime (Citrus aurantiifolia) and lemon (Citrus limon) juices at different ratios and immersion times. Maturation progression was evaluated using a semi-quantitative visual index (0–100%) supported by triplicate mean ± SD measurements. Observations included colour transformation, flesh firmness, and macroscopic protein denaturation, while microscopic assessment and mechanical texture analysis validated structural myofibrillar changes. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD determined significant treatment differences. Main Findings: The optimal condition was a formulation containing 75% lime juice and 25% lemon juice with an immersion duration of 1,140 minutes, achieving 96% maturation. This treatment produced homogeneous myofibrillar protein denaturation, uniform colour transformation, and increased flesh firmness under non-thermal conditions. Single-acid treatments showed slower and less uniform maturation, indicating a synergistic effect of mixed citrus acids. The dense muscle fibre structure and high myofibrillar protein content of gourami contributed to enhanced structural stability during maturation. Statistical analyses confirmed significant differences among treatments at most immersion times. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study proposes a reproducible and chemically optimised non-thermal maturation model integrating semi-quantitative, microscopic, and mechanical analyses, providing a scientifically validated framework for modern adaptation of traditional Batak naniura processing.
