Abstract

Background: Thalassemia is a genetically inherited blood disorder that is chronic and difficult to prevent, significantly affecting children’s quality of life physically, socially, and emotionally. Improving quality of life requires not only medical management such as regular transfusions but also positive parental support, including motivation, attention, and nondiscriminatory treatment compared to healthy children. Understanding parental support and interaction is essential for promoting optimal outcomes. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the level of parental support and interaction for children with thalassemia. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with purposive sampling, including 75 parents of children with thalassemia. Data were collected using structured observation sheets to evaluate parental support and interaction levels, alongside demographic information such as age, sex, education, and occupation. Results: Most respondents were aged 46–55 years (46.7%), female (86.7%), with high school education (53.3%), and homemakers (66.7%). Findings showed that 92.0% of parents provided positive support, and 78.7% demonstrated high interaction with their children. Positive parental involvement was observed in emotional support, attention to health needs, and daily engagement. Conclusion: Parents of children with thalassemia play a crucial role in providing positive support and interaction, contributing to the child’s overall well-being and recovery. Although this study was limited to survey-based observation, it highlights the importance of parental involvement in managing chronic pediatric conditions. Future research using qualitative approaches is recommended to explore in-depth parental experiences and validate these findings.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Motivation drives and sustains individual performance. In nursing, caring is a core element of professional service. Low levels of caring behavior among nurses may arise from multiple factors, particularly low work motivation. High work motivation is essential for nurses to deliver competent care and ensure patient satisfaction. Conversely, insufficient motivation may hinder clinical decision-making and affect the quality of caring behavior toward patients. Objective: This study aimed to determine the correlation between work motivation and caring behavior among nurses in the Inpatient Department of Landak Regional General Hospital. Methods: This research employed a quantitative correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach to examine the relationship between work motivation and caring behavior. The population comprised 108 nurses working in the inpatient department, with 52 participants selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires assessing motivation and caring behavior. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: Findings indicated that 59.6% of nurses demonstrated good levels of work motivation, while 90.4% exhibited good caring behavior in the inpatient department. Conclusion: There is a statistically significant correlation between work motivation and caring behavior among implementing nurses in the Inpatient Department of Landak Regional General Hospital (p = 0.000 < α = 0.05). These results suggest that higher work motivation is associated with better caring behavior, emphasizing the importance of motivational enhancement programs to improve the quality of nursing care and patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Assessment and care of diabetic feet should always be provided to patients periodically to optimally prevent complications. This necessitates a practical guide that nurses can use to evaluate the risk of wounds in diabetic patients. Previous research has developed protocols for assessing the risk of diabetic foot ulcers; however, these protocols are manual, requiring nurses to spend time determining the risk level of wounds. The aim of this study is to develop a Web-Based Diabetic Foot Infection Risk Scale Application using the Forward Chaining Method. This research utilizes the Stetler model for evidence-based application development. The development process involves three stages: preparation, validation, and analysis. In the first stage, researchers conduct a literature review using literature review protocols and source scientific articles and books, followed by the development of a web-based application using the forward chaining method. There were 19 research articles recruited from three data base scientific (PubMed, Scopus, and Wiley online Library) from 2014-2024. In the second stage, experts will evaluate the content of the application concerning infection risk assessment. Finally, the application is tested. The results of this study have shown that, after testing, the Web-Based Expert System for Diabetic Foot Infection Risk Determination using the forward chaining method can be used and implemented directly by nurses working in diabetic foot care specialty clinics. This research represents an initial stage focusing on assessing infection risk levels, and it is hoped that future research will build upon this study, not only assessing infection risk but also evaluating the potential for diabetic foot ulcers based on assessed risk factors.

Abstract

Background: Self-concept refers to an individual’s perception and understanding of themselves, encompassing what they know and feel about their identity. It represents an essential aspect of personality development, particularly during adolescence, when family support plays a crucial role. One important aspect of family support is the affective function, which involves emotional guidance and preparation of family members to build healthy social relationships and psychological stability. When the affective function of the family is not fulfilled, adolescents are more likely to engage in deviant behaviors such as promiscuity. Promiscuity is a form of social deviation that crosses moral boundaries and may lead to negative outcomes, including free sex. Objective: To determine the relationship between self-concept, family affective function, and adolescent promiscuity at SMA Negeri 1 Simpang Dua, Ketapang Regency. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional approach involving 76 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-square test with the SPSS application. Results: The findings showed no significant relationship between self-concept and adolescent promiscuity, with a p-value of 0.195 (>0.05). However, a significant relationship was found between the family’s affective function and adolescent promiscuity, with a p-value of 0.003 (<0.05). Conclusion: The study concludes that while self-concept alone does not significantly influence adolescent promiscuity, the family’s affective function plays a critical role. The weaker the family’s affective function and the more negative the self-concept, the higher the risk of adolescents engaging in promiscuous behavior.
