Abstract

The New Order government encouraged ethnic Chinese Indonesians as the local population, resulting new identity as Chinese Muslims, then the group formed PITI. This research is analyzing the forming of Chinese Muslim socio-cultural identity among PITI from the perspective of Tajfel and Turner's social identity theory. The descriptive qualitative research method used in this research, and the data obtained from semi-structured in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation and/or literature studies. The results showed that Chinese Muslims tried to maintain and gain a positive social identity. It can be seen from individual and collective efforts to form different socio-cultural identities, some Muslim Chinese identify Chinese socio-cultural, some identify Javanese socio-cultural.

Abstract

Sulfonated activated carbon (SAC) is one of green catalysts that has been successfully synthesized from palm shell waste. The SAC catalysts have been tested in the hydrolysis of cellulose of palm bunch to simple sugar. The SAC catalysts were prepared from palm shell waste by converting to activated carbon followed by sulfonating step. The SAC catalysts were characterized by using XRD, SEM, FTIR and gravimetric methods. The SAC catalysts show as porous amorphous materials and have acidic properties, a prerequisite for good catalytic activity. Preliminary catalytic tests showed that the SAC catalysts can be used for the hydrolysis of cellulose from palm bunch waste that was shown by the existence of reducing sugar in the liquid product of hydrolysis.

Abstract

Virgin coconut oil (VCO) is coconut oil that contains medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) which are easily broken down by the body in very high amounts. Besides that, VCO also has very high antioxidant content such as tocopherol and beta-carotene. This PPM activity aims to provide VCO Making Training with the Enzymatic Method with pineapple fruit extract and fermentation with baker's yeast in the community of RT 12 RW 03 Pematang Governor Village, Muara Bangkahulu District, Bengkulu City. The activity began with a lecture followed by a discussion and practice of making VCO with enzymatic and fermentation methods. The results of observations in the field indicate that the target community of this PPM activity is very enthusiastic to take part in this activity because they feel they have gained additional new knowledge about how to make VCO which can complement their knowledge of the known VCO making technique, namely the fishing method. With the knowledge of making VCO taught in this activity, the target community will be able to have alternative methods for making VCO other than what has been known so far with easily obtained equipment. Keywords:   VCO; MCFA; antivirus; enzymatic; Fermentation

Abstract

Abstract- In this research Xanthosoma nigrum Stellfeld (the Purple yam) was selected as experimental material. This plant was collected from Rejang Lebong region, Bengkulu Province. Methanol extract 96% from stem of purple yam was studied its anti-oxidant activity in various concentrations with α-tocopherol (200 ppm) as standard of antioxidant. Antioxidant activity was determined using Thiobarbituric Acid (TBA) method. Linoleic acid was oxidized at 40 ºC for seven days with or without extract and the final product malondialdehyde (MDA) was reacted with thiostembituric acid to be of red colored complex (MDA-TBA) and was then measured by UV-VIS spectrophotometer at λ 532 nm. Stem extract of purple yam with concentration of 100 ppm, 150 ppm, 200 ppm and 300 ppm respectively had the inhibition of 19.32%, 21.85%, 29.47%, and 31.05%.  α-Tocopherol as positive control which showed inhibition ability of 85.14% at 200 ppm. Based on the result obtained in this study, the stem’s extract of Purpel yam plant showed that antioxidant activity was lower than α-tocopherol. Keywords : Xanthosoma nigrum; Stellfeld; MDA; Antioxidant.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of cream made  of coconut oil as a raw  material and the active ingredients of soursop leaf ethanol extract  and bay leaf ethanol extract as sunscreens. The cream was made by mixing the hot (700C) water phase (glycerin, distilled water, methyl paraben, and triethanolamine = TEA) and the hot (700C) oil phase (s tearic acid, coconut oil, cetyl alcohol, propyl paraben, andlanolin). After the cream was formed, the active ingredients of soursop leaf ethanol extract and bay leaf ethanol  extract were added. A cream without an active ingredient was also made as a comparison.  The produced cream was determined to have ultraviolet (UV) radiation absorption by using a UV spectrophotometer. The resulting absorbance value was used to calculate the value of the sun protection factor (SPF) using the Mansur equation. The results showed that creams without active ingredients had the lowest SPF values. With an SPF of 3.048, the cream with 2% active ingredients and 2.5% bay leaf extract was labeled as a low-performance sunscreen cream

Abstract

Krim tabir surya berbahan aktif ekstrak daun jambu biji 0,5% memiliki nilai SPF sebesar 0,1648.

Abstract

This study was conducted to observe the effect of catalyst and solvent on the Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction between benzaldehyde derivatives (compound 1) and 2-acetylpyridine. Chalcones, as compounds with various biological activities, are the focus in the fields of medicine and pharmacology. Efficient and environmentally friendly synthesis methods are essential in the production of these compounds. In this study, the Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction was used to synthesize the target chalcones. Variations of base catalysts (NaOH and KOH) and solvents (ethanol and methanol) were evaluated to optimize the yield and efficiency of the reaction. The results showed that the use of KOH as a catalyst produced compound 2 with an abundance of 60.47%, which was associated with the stronger nucleophilic nature of hydroxide ions in KOH. In addition, ethanol proved to be a more effective solvent than methanol in this reaction.
