Abstract

The National Science Olympiad (OSN), which in 2020 changed its name to the National Science Competition (KSN), is held in stages to motivate students, teachers, managers and education coaches to compete healthily in order to improve the quality of national education. In the field of science, in previous years the results in Kolaka Regency were still in the low category, including SDN 1 Lamokato. In the academic year 2019/2020 SD Negeri 1 Lamokato will send again its students to take part in the 2020 KSN.Therefore, there needs to be preparation early, one of the preparation iswith the Community Service program by a team of lecturers and students of the Biology Education Study Program, Sembilanbelas November Kolaka University. which was carried out in the form of providing learning guidance for KSN-SD preparation. PkM activities include the stages of preparation, implementation and evaluation. The preparation stage includes curriculum analysis and OSN questions and giving pretest questions. The implementation stage includes the provision of material about OSN, guidance and assistance in solving OSN questions, and the evaluation stage includes giving posttest questions and questionnaires at the end of the activity. The results of the implementation of PkM tutoring for the National Science Competition (KSN-SD) at SD Negeri 1 Lamokato went smoothly and had a positive impact on the preparation for the KSN-SD students in 2020. This result was shown by the increased ability of participants to solve Olympic questions (from scores the average pretest 45.83 to 75.0 at posttest). The results of the evaluation questionnaire analysis also showed that the participants were motivated (83.33%), the participants' understanding of the material and the supervisor's ability to provide the material was considered very good (88.89%). However, additional time is needed in mentoring and mentoring participants who will take part in the KSN-SD selection so that this activity can provide an optimal contribution. Abstract

This study is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to identify the student misconceptions on genetic material. The research was conducted at Sembilanbelas November University Kolaka. The research subjects were 23 students of the biology education study program who programmed the genetics course. Research data were collected using the Certainty of Response Index(CRI) diagnostic test technique to determine the location of misconception and interviews to determine the causes of misconception. The results showed the percentage of students understanding the genetic material of those who did not know the concept, knew the concept and experienced misconception was 17%, 39%, and 44%, respectively. There were misconceptions on five genetic submissions where the highest occurred in the sub material structure of gene organization with a percentage of 54%. The causes of students experiencing misconceptions are a passive attitude to seek information (43,5%), abstract genetic material (26,1%), learning methods that prioritize memorization techniques (17,4%), the use of high school books as the main reading reference (8,7%), and inability to translate the contents of reading material appropriately (4,3%). The conclusion is students experience misconceptions in all genetic sub materials tested with the highest percentage occurring in the sub-material of the gene organization structure. The most cause of the misconception is the passive attitude of students. There might be a need for the students to be more actively involved in building understanding, including independence in searching for information.

Abstract

Bad quality of the questions is one of the factors that can lead to errors in the grading of student learning outcomes. It gives a lower students’ score than the appropriate score and will give an impact on school grades (NS). In this case, school grades (NS) have an effect of 40% in determining the passing of national exams (UN). Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the quality of first semester final exam items made by biology class XII teacher based on some aspects; they are the material, construction, and language. In this study, the researcher used purposive sampling technique in order to collect the data. Items were assessed using a multiple-choice item evaluation sheet which has been declared valid by an expert validator. By combining the material aspects of the assessment data, construction, and language, research results obtained in general show that of the 120 items assessed, there are 104 ( 86,7 %) items with excellent criteria and 16 ( 13,3% ) items with right criteria. Thus, the items made by biology class XII teachers are still suitable for final semester exam of the 2013/2014 academic year Sidrap Regency.

Abstract

The results of observations in the Biology Education Study Program of Sembilanbelas November Kolaka University, until now the lecture activities carried out in general still use the conventional model which causes students to tend to be passive, the low independence of student learning which hinders students' thinking skills. For this reason, an innovative lecture model is needed that can develop and improve students' critical thinking skills and independence. The purpose of this study was to determine the critical thinking skills and independent learning of students through the flipped classroom model based on blended learning. This research is a quasi-experimental research using one group pretest-posttest design. Data collection by tests and questionnaires. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively and one sample t test. The results showed that the value of critical thinking skills of paired samples t-test obtained a significance level (p) of 0.00 < 0.05. For independent learning as a whole, the results of the paired samples t-test obtained a significance level (p ) of 0.00 < 0.05. So it can be concluded that students' critical thinking skills and independence are better when applying the blended learning-based flipped classroom model.
