Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of philosophy of science in geography education, particularly through the use of ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions as the foundation for developing content, methods, and assessment. Within the context of the Merdeka Curriculum and the strengthening of the Pancasila Student Profile, geography learning requires students not only to master spatial concepts but also to develop critical, reflective, and ethical awareness of human–environment relationships. This research employs a qualitative approach with a literature review design, drawing on books, journal articles, and policy documents related to philosophy of science, philosophy of geography, and geography education. The findings indicate that the ontological dimension helps teachers and students understand the nature of geographical objects of study such as space, place, and landscape as complex and dynamic realities. The epistemological dimension directs learning toward scientific processes of knowledge construction through observation, mapping, geospatial technologies, and critical inquiry. Meanwhile, the axiological dimension positions geography learning as a means of fostering social and environmental responsibility by promoting values of sustainability, spatial justice, and global citizenship. The implementation of philosophy of science in geography classrooms can be realized through problem-based learning, contextual project work, reflective dialogue, and the integration of ethical issues into the analysis of geospheric phenomena. The study recommends strengthening geography teachers’ philosophical literacy, developing teaching modules grounded in philosophy of science, and conducting further empirical research on the impact of philosophical approaches on students’ critical thinking skills and character development

Abstract

Sustainable watershed management requires decision-making frameworks that are both scientifically robust and socially legitimate. This study develops an integrative management model for the Alo-Molamahu Sub-Watershed, part of the Limboto Watershed in Gorontalo Province, Indonesia, by combining hydrological modeling, spatial analysis, and social–institutional assessment within an epistemological framework. A mixed-methods design was employed, integrating biophysical data derived from Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) with qualitative data obtained from interviews, questionnaires, and policy document analysis. Model calibration and validation using observed discharge data from River Flow Monitoring Stations demonstrate strong agreement between simulated and observed hydrological responses. The results indicate that land-use change on steep slopes and limited vegetation cover significantly increase runoff and sediment yield, while socio-economic pressures and weak policy instruments constrain effective conservation practices. Through systematic data triangulation, biophysical model outputs were interpreted alongside stakeholder perceptions and regulatory conditions to generate an evidence-based and adaptive watershed governance model. The study demonstrates that integrating validated hydrological simulations with social knowledge enhances both the scientific credibility and policy relevance of watershed management strategies. The proposed framework provides a replicable approach for sustainable management of complex socio-ecological watersheds in Indonesia and comparable contexts.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp farming requires the proper application of technology and management to enhance productivity and sustainability. This study aims to analyze the application of the best technology and management practices by vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) farmers in Mananggu District, Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province. The methods used include observation and interviews with 8 out of 11 farmers, with data collected through questionnaires focusing on six indicators of Best Management Practices (BMP): pond preparation, feed management, seed management, water quality management, pest and disease monitoring, and harvesting. The results show that 7 out of 8 farmers implemented technology during the pond preparation stage. Education level also influenced practices, with 62.5% of respondents having higher education (high school to bachelor's degree). The application of BMP plays a crucial role in improving the efficiency of vannamei shrimp farming in this area.

Abstract

Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is a widely utilized fish species known for its high nutritional value, including protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. However, feed efficiency remains a significant challenge in Nile tilapia farming. Enhancing feed quality through the addition of herbal extracts, such as turmeric, ginger, and galangal, is a promising solution. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of herbal extract supplementation in feed on the growth in length and weight of Nile tilapia. The research was conducted over 30 days, with measurements of fish length and weight taken every ten days. Four treatments were applied: A (control), B (6 g/kg feed of ginger extract), C (6 g/kg feed of turmeric extract), and D (6 g/kg feed of galangal extract). The results showed that the addition of herbal extracts improved the growth performance of Nile tilapia. Treatment C (turmeric extract) exhibited the highest growth in length (1.01 cm) and the highest absolute weight gain (1.49 g). In conclusion, turmeric extract supplementation demonstrated the most significant impact on enhancing the growth in length and weight of Nile tilapia, making it a viable alternative to improve feed efficiency in aquaculture.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the perspective of axiological philosophy on coral reef transplantation in an effort to rehabilitate marine ecosystems. Philosophy plays an important role in mapping the flow of human thought in formulating the intended goals. The branch of axiological philosophy also describes the benefits and values of an object to be studied. Coral reef ecosystems have an important function in the sustainability of marine life. However, there are various threats faced by these ecosystems. As an effective solution, transplantation needs to be studied and explored for its values and benefits. The study uses a literature study method by reviewing 25 scientific articles related to coral reef transplantation and environmental axiology. Through this literature study, the findings of axiological philosophical values in coral reef transplantation include ethical values, aesthetic values, and practical (instrumental) values. This study also describes the axiological dimension in a larger context, namely towards marine conservation which includes moral values, aesthetic values, and usefulness values. The results of this study are expected to provide an overview and strengthen information on the importance of coral reef transplantation as a concrete step in efforts to rehabilitate marine ecosystems.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the Fishing Boat Assistance Program for fishers in Gorontalo Regency by integrating sustainability into the Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) evaluation framework. Previous evaluations of fisheries assistance programs have primarily focused on program outputs and short-term economic impacts, with limited attention to the social, institutional, economic, and environmental sustainability dimensions that determine long-term program effectiveness. This study employed a qualitative case study approach using the CIPP evaluation model. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis involving officials from the Fisheries Office, fisher group leaders, and program beneficiaries. The findings indicate that the program was generally aligned with fishers’ needs, improved access to productive assets, and enhanced fishing productivity, business capacity, and economic independence. However, limited institutional capacity, inadequate post-distribution monitoring, and insufficient mentoring constrained the long-term sustainability of program outcomes. Based on these findings, this study proposes the Context, Input, Process, Product–Sustainability Integration (CIPP-SI) framework, which extends the conventional CIPP model by systematically incorporating sustainability considerations into each evaluation dimension. The proposed framework contributes to the advancement of public policy evaluation by providing a more comprehensive approach to assessing fisheries assistance programs and offers practical guidance for designing more sustainable and effective fisher empowerment policies.
