Abstract

The Sedekah Serabi tradition is one of the cultural heritages that developed in Empat Lawang Regency, South Sumatra Province. This tradition reflects a combination of local wisdom, religious values, and community togetherness. Historically, Sedekah Serabi is rooted in the tradition of post-harvest thanksgiving carried out by agrarian communities as a form of gratitude to God Almighty for the abundant crops. In its implementation, the community collectively makes serabi cakes and then donates them to neighbors, relatives, and children as a symbol of sharing sustenance and strengthening friendship. Over time, this tradition has not only become a form of thanksgiving, but has also developed into an annual cultural event that strengthens social identity and solidarity between residents. This study aims to explore the history, cultural values, and role of the Sedekah Serabi tradition in building social cohesion amid the dynamics of modern society.

Lawang Kidul Mosque is one of the historical buildings that holds significant architectural, social, and religious value in the city of Palembang. Founded during the Dutch colonial era by Ki Marogan, this mosque not only served as a center for religious activities but also stood as a silent witness to the historical journey of Palembang from the colonial period to independence. This article aims to trace the history of Lawang Kidul Mosque, its architectural form, and analyze its strategic role in community life. The methods used include literature review and qualitative methods through direct observation and interviews to collect the necessary data for this study. The results show that Lawang Kidul Mosque was established in 1881, built by Ki Marogan. It is the second mosque founded by him, with the first being Kiyai Marogan Mosque, which was constructed earlier in 1871. The architectural style of Lawang Kidul Mosque resembles that of the Great Mosque of Palembang, although it is smaller in size. Lawang Kidul Mosque is supported by four large wooden soko guru pillars and twelve smaller columns. Abstract

This research discusses the event of the first revelation descending upon Prophet Muhammad SAW in the Cave of Hira as the starting point for the birth of Islamic civilization. The background of this research stems from the social and spiritual conditions of pre-Islamic Arab society, which was in the era of ignorance, characterized by idol worship, social inequality, and the loss of human values. The purpose of this research is to reconstruct the historical, theological, and philosophical meanings of the first revelation and relate them to the relevance of educational and moral values in the modern context. The method used is a qualitative study with a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing primary and secondary literature from interpretive sources, historical texts, and scientific journals. The research results indicate that the command "Iqra'" in Surah Al-'Alaq verses 1-5 is the foundation for the emergence of literacy, education, and scientific traditions in Islam. This value affirms the importance of the integration between faith and science as the foundation of civilization. The implications of this research confirm that the spirit of "Iqra'" must be revived in the modern education system so that young Muslim generations can develop critical, ethical, and moral character amidst the current of globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of Islam during the Umayyad Dynasty as one of the important periods in the history of Islamic civilization. The main focus of the discussion is directed at the process of the emergence of Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan as the first caliph of the Umayyad Dynasty and his efforts to establish dynastic power after the Islamic Civil War (Fitnah Kubra). The Umayyad Dynasty played a strategic role in the transformation of the Islamic government system from an elective caliphate to a hereditary monarchy, while simultaneously expanding the territory of Islam to various regions. This study uses a literature review method with a historiographic approach, namely examining and analyzing relevant classical and modern historical sources. The results show that during the Umayyad Dynasty, Islam experienced significant developments in the aspects of politics, government administration, military, and culture. However, internal political dynamics, conflicts over the legitimacy of power, and dissatisfaction of certain groups also contributed to weakening the stability of the dynasty. This study also describes the process of decline of the Umayyad Dynasty until its eventual collapse and replacement by the Abbasid Dynasty.

Abstract

The tomb of Ario Damar in Palembang City represents one of the important historical sites for understanding the political, social, and religious dynamics during the transitional period from the influence of the Majapahit Kingdom to the development of Islam in the South Sumatra region. The study of this site employs the historical method through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, using a qualitative approach. Data were collected through direct observation of the Ario Damar tomb complex and literature studies derived from scientific journals, academic articles, and relevant historiographical works. The analysis indicates that the existence of the Ario Damar tomb not only represents a physical relic of a prominent figure within the governmental structure of Palembang in the fifteenth century but also serves as material evidence reflecting the process of cultural and religious transformation in the region. The tomb site demonstrates historical connections between the political authority of Majapahit, the early development of Islam in Palembang, and the political and cultural relations between Java and Sumatra. In addition to its historical significance, the Ario Damar tomb also holds social and cultural functions as a space of collective memory for the community, which continues to be used as a site of pilgrimage and historical reflection. Therefore, the preservation of the Ario Damar tomb site is essential to maintain cultural heritage while strengthening its role as a source of local historical learning and the development of sustainable historical tourism.

Abstract

This study examines the role and influence of Prince Liting in the leadership of the Pegagan Ilir Clan II in the Ogan Ilir region of South Sumatra, and how his legacy of leadership remains alive in the community's collective memory even though the clan system has long been abolished. This study uses a historical approach by exploring primary and secondary sources related to the history of clan governance in South Sumatra. The results show that Prince Liting succeeded in establishing multi-layered legitimacy from both the people, the Dutch colonial government, and the religious community through leadership that combined customary authority with Islamic commitment. His grave in Tanjung Raja now serves as a site of collective memory that goes beyond its usual ceremonial function, reflecting how the local community actively maintains continuity with its historical heritage. The abolition of the clan system in 1983 did not immediately erase the symbolic relevance of its leaders; on the contrary, figures like Prince Liting were further solidified as icons of communal identity. These findings confirm that the historical legitimacy of a local leader is far more enduring than the formal institutions that once protected them.
