Abstract

The proficiency of students in mastering mathematical problem-solving skills stands as a pivotal criterion for the success of mathematics learning. This research aims to assess and portray the level of students' mastery of mathematical problem-solving skills, particularly within the context of the ratio topic. Employing a descriptive qualitative research design, the study involves 10 seventh-grade students from a junior high school in Cimahi, West Java, Indonesia. These students have diverse initial abilities, spanning low, medium, and high levels, as recommended by their mathematics teacher. Data collection is executed through tests encompassing five indicators of mathematical problem-solving skills outlined by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). The students' answer sheets are meticulously examined to ascertain and evaluate the students' proficiency in mathematical problem-solving skills, specifically pertaining to the ratio topic. The research findings indicate that the seventh-grade students' mathematical problem-solving skills in the ratio topic are deemed quite proficient.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze and study in depth about the self-confidence-influenced skills of matematiS from middle school students. The methods in this study use correlational methods with quantitative approaches. The population in this study was junior high school students in west Bandung regency and the sample of 30 people was determined by purposive sampling technique at one of the junior high schools in West Bandung Regency. Instruments in this ability in the form of comprehension ability tests as many as 5 points of questions and self-confidence scale students as many as 24 statement scales. The results of this study concluded that there is a positive influence between self-confidence and the mathematical understanding ability of middle school students. This shows that the higher the student's confidence, the higher the student's mathematical comprehension ability. Factors that affect high self-confidence include: (1) students with a high confidence attitude do not hesitate in making decisions in solving problems (2) students can have many ideas in working on the problem at hand. Meanwhile, students with less confidence will tend to have difficulty in answering potluck questions, students only memorize not yet to understand the understanding of the concept so that the student does not dare to make decisions when solving existing problems.Kata kunci: self confidence, mathematical understanding.

Abstract

Reasoning is a skill that students must possess to improve their ability in solving mathematics problems related to everyday life. Meanwhile, self regulated learning skills is aims to increase their sense of responsibility for their own learning. This research aims to improve both of these abilities through the geogebra assisted the problem-based learning, so the students can be better understand about concepts that taught by the teacher, take responsibility, and build their self regulated learning. The researcher used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach involving both experiment and control groups, that each consisting of 25 student in eighth-grade from SMP EL Fitra Bandung. The first step that reseacher take is given a pretest to both of class, after that continue to give experiment class with geogebra assisted the problem based learning method and control class with a conventional method. The research instruments used were a mathematical reasoning essay test about system linear equation in two variabels (SPLDV) and a self regulated scale. The integration of geogebra software is in line with current technological advancements and make the student more interesting when learning many subject at school specially in mathematic program. The results showed that students who received geogebra assisted problem-based learning method performed better in reasoning ability compared to those who received conventional method. However, there was no significant difference in self regulated learning between the two groups, indicating that both the experimental and control groups experienced an increase in self regulated learning.
