Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the political economy and historical roots of economic growth in Indonesia’s coastal fisheries, with a focus on the country's 3T regions (disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost). Drawing on qualitative field data and critical policy analysis, the research reveals how historical marginalization, market dependency, legal exclusion, and fragmented governance have shaped uneven development trajectories in these regions. Despite rich marine resources and integration into global seafood markets, small-scale fishers in 3T areas often remain economically insecure and politically invisible. The study highlights how growth has been promoted through centralized, extractive models that prioritize production and capital investment while neglecting community rights and local institutions. However, it also identifies local strategies of resistance, adaptation, and institutional innovation suggesting that endogenous, community-driven growth is possible when socio-political conditions are supportive. By situating fisheries development within a political economy framework, the research calls for a more inclusive and territorially grounded approach to maritime development, one that recognizes coastal communities not as passive beneficiaries, but as central agents in shaping sustainable and just growth. Abstract

The application of sandwich plates in marine structures provides a lightweight yet strong alternative to conventional steel plates. This study investigates the extent to which stiffener spacing on barge decks can be increased when using 5–15–5 mm sandwich plates, without exceeding the allowable stress limit. The analysis was conducted using the finite element method (FEM) in ANSYS Student R2 2024. The stiffener spacing configurations examined were 610 mm (32 stiffeners), 762 mm (24 stiffeners), 1016 mm (16 stiffeners), 1524 mm (8 stiffeners), and a model without stiffeners. The simulation results indicate that all models with stiffeners, up to a spacing of 1524 mm, satisfy the allowable stress limit of 175 MPa specified by Lloyd’s Register. In contrast, the model without stiffeners exceeds this limit and is therefore considered unsafe. Deformation analysis further shows that the maximum deflection tends to occur on the port side, particularly in regions not supported by beams or girders. As the stiffener spacing increases, the magnitude of deformation also increases, and its location shifts due to edge effects and asymmetrical support conditions. In addition, the use of sandwich plates leads to a substantial reduction in structural weight compared with conventional steel construction, ranging from 23.13% to 32.83%, depending on the stiffener spacing. Based on these results, a stiffener spacing of up to 1524 mm is considered optimal for maintaining structural safety while achieving significant weight reduction.

Abstract

Banyuwangi has quite a lot of coastal areas. However, the negative impact of many coastal areas is that garbage is generally disposed of in the waters starting from the river which will eventually empty into the sea or directly dumped into the open sea. The mindset of Indonesian people including Banyuwangi residents who consider the sea as a garbage dump has not changed much. Santen island is one of the beaches in Banyuwangi with less waste management. As a solution to these problems, socialization is needed to increase awareness to the community and provide training to the community in handling organic waste. Socialization and training conducted is the utilization of organic waste as Eco-Enzyme with partners are coastal women. Eco-Enzyme is. This PkM implementation method consists of five stages, namely Pre-activity, presentation, Breefing training, training, and Evaluation and closing. Participants who attended this activity were 23 women of various ages. On the day of the training, the participants had prepared all the materials, then the organizing team divided the participants into 4 groups. For the ratio of ingredients for making this eco-enzyme is 1: 3: 10, where 1 is for sugar in grams, 3 is for fruit skin or vegetable scraps in grams, and 10 is water in mL. The socialization of the material on the first day increased participants' awareness of the importance of waste management and participants' enthusiasm in making eco-enzymes. Each participant in each group made eco-enzyme according to the instructions from the presenter. After three months, the participants were able to use Eco-Enzyme products as glass cleaners, toilet cleaners and bathrooms, while the pulp became fertilizer for ornamental plants in their homes.

Abstract

The Bubulan Village has rich natural resources, one of which is high-quality teak trees contributing to the productivity of teak trees in Bojonegoro Regency. Despite its advantages, teak trees in Bubulan Village hold the potential for economically valuable waste, namely teak leaf waste accumulating in the forest area. Additionally, Bubulan Village is home to wooden furniture craftsmen, and every production process generates wood sawdust waste. This community service aims to empower the people of Bubulan Village in managing this waste through training on the utilization of dried teak leaf waste and wood sawdust as raw materials for charcoal briquettes. The service method begins with partner surveys, followed by reference studies and a simulation of the charcoal-making process by the team. Subsequently, tools for making charcoal briquettes (including the creation of a charcoal stove) are procured. The activities continue with outreach to showcase the potential of Bubulan Village, followed by training on the utilization of teak leaf waste and wood sawdust as raw materials for charcoal briquettes.Representatives from the youth organization (karang taruna), village officials, and 20 residents of Bubulan Village attended this community service. The outcomes of this service include an increase in participants' knowledge about charcoal briquettes made from dried teak leaves and wood sawdust by 49%. The designed and made charcoal stove by the service team functions well. Briquettes made from dried teak leaves ignite more easily but have a shorter burning duration compared to briquettes made from wood sawdust. Further testing is needed to determine the calorific value, ash content, and moisture content of these briquettes, as well as additional tests on the efficiency of the charcoal stove.Written in English with a distance between sentences of 1 space and the number of words between 150-250.
