Abstract

This research analyzes the influence of infrastructure development and convergence on economic growth in North Sumatra Province which is divided into four regions, namely the east coast, west coast, highlands, and islands. The analysis uses the multiple panel data regression method with time series data for 2018-2022. The regression results show that the Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) variable has a positive and significant impact in the East Coast and highland regions, while in the West Coast and island regions it has a negative but significant impact. Average Years of Schooling (RLS) has a positive and significant impact in most areas, except in island areas where it is not significant. Electrical infrastructure has a positive and significant impact in all regions, road infrastructure has a positive and significant impact in the west coast and highland areas, and for the east coast and island regions, the impact is positive but not significant. Meanwhile, the impact of clean water infrastructure varies. σ-convergence was found only in the east coast region, while β-convergence was detected in all regions with different levels of convergence, but lagging districts/cities took a very long time to catch up with the growth of developing districts/cities with a half-life of 47 years in the east coast region. 82 years on the west coast, 19 years on the highland areas, and 29 years on the island areas.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of land area, number of workers, and oil palm production on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of plantation sub-sectors in South Labuhanbatu District, North Sumatra Province. The GDP variable of the plantation sub-sector is used as a dependent variable, while land area, number of workers, and oil palm production are used as independent variables. The data used is secondary data from 2011 to 2021 which is interpolated into quarterly data, with a total of 44 data. The analysis method used is Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression using Eviews 10.0 software. OLS analysis is a development of multiple regression analysis that describes how much influence the independent variable has on the dependent variable. The results of the analysis show that land area, number of workers, and oil palm production have a positive and significant influence on the GRDP of plantation sub-sectors in South Labuhanbatu Regency both partially and simultaneously. Partially, the regression results show that land area has a coefficient of 11.52384 with a probability value of less than 0.05%, the number of workers has a coefficient of 0.300888 with a probability value of less than 0.05%, and oil palm production has a coefficient of 2.222429 with a probability value of less than 0.05%. Simultaneously, the variables of land area, number of workers, and oil palm production contribute 87% to the variable GDP of the plantation sub-sector in South Labuhanbatu Regency. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of technology and business duration on the income of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) coffee shops in Medan City, with labor as an intervening variable. The rapid growth of the coffee shop industry in Medan has intensified competition among business owners, making the adoption of technology, business experience, and labor effectiveness crucial factors for increasing income. This study employs a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS). The research sample consists of MSME coffee shop owners selected through purposive sampling. The variables include technology (X1), Length of a business (X2), labor (Z), and income (Y). The findings reveal that technology has a positive and significant effect on income and also influences labor. Business duration positively affects both income and labor. Moreover, labor significantly affects income and mediates the relationship between technology and income, as well as between business duration and income. These results indicate that optimal technology utilization, longer business experience, and sufficient labor quality are key determinants of income improvement among MSME coffee shops in Medan City. This research is expected to serve as a reference for business owners and policymakers in formulating strategies for sustainable MSME development.
