Abstract

Larva represents the initial phase of a fish’s life after hatching from the egg. Studies on fish larvae aim to provide seasonal information, as well as identify spawning and nursery areas, especially economically important fish species, to support the sustainability of fishery resources. This study aimed to gather information on the abundance, diversity, and distribution of fish larvae in the waters of the Bali Strait. Sampling was carried out from August to November 2024, using a trawl net at five observation stations. The larval samples were preserved with 4% formalin and subsequently identified and counted using a microscope at the Capture Fisheries Laboratory of Marine and Fisheries Polytechnic of Jembrana. This study found 22 families of fish larvae, with abundance ranging from 38 to 433 individuals per 1000 m3. Spatially, the highest abundance was recorded at the Perancak station, followed by Tuwed, Sumbersari, Cupel, and Jimbaran. Temporarily, fish larvae with high abundance were found from September to November. The larval composition was dominated by the families Clupeidae, Gobiidae, Bramidae, and Carangidae. Shannon-Wiener Index (H') of fish larvae ranged from 0.64 to 2.18, indicating that the level of diversity and stability of the community was at a low–moderate level. The highest diversity was found at Tuwed station. The distribution of fish larvae is influenced by oceanographic characteristics, fish behavior, and the availability of natural food sources, such as plankton.

Abstract

Abstract

Phytoplankton is an important component in aquatic ecosystems. Apart from producing oxygen, phytoplankton also act as primary producers in the food chain. Bali Sardinella (Lemuru) is an important fishery commodity in the Bali Strait, which is known to eat plankton (Plankton Feeder), so its existence depends on the distribution of plankton. This descriptive research aims to determine the community structure, abundance and ecological index of phytoplankton in the coastal waters of Jembrana Regency. Sampling was conducted in July 2023 at five observation stations in the coastal waters of Jembrana Regency (Pengambengan Beach, Perancak Beach and Delod Berawah Beach). Around 250 litres of seawater was filtered by a plankton net measuring 35 mm. The filtered samples collected in a 100 ml collecting bottle were then transferred to a 120 ml sample bottle and preserved in 4% formalin. The samples obtained were taken to the laboratory for observation under a microscope. This research shows that 66 types of phytoplankton were found to belong to 5 classes in the waters of Jembrana, Bali. The Bacillariophyceae class were found with the highest number of species (44 species), followed by the Dinophyceae (19 species), Chlorophyceae (1 species), Cryptophyceae (1 species), and Cyanophyceae (1 species). Based on the results of calculating phytoplankton abundance, various abundance values were obtained at each observation station. Station 2 has the highest abundance of phytoplankton with 297 individuals/l followed by Station 1 (221 individuals/l), Station 4 (130 individuals/l), Station 3 (127 individuals/l), and Station 5 (36 individuals/l). The species Diversity Index (H') ranges from 2.61 - 2.83, the Dominance Index (C) ranges from 0.07 - 0.13, and the Evenness Index (e) ranges from 0.72 - 0.95. The ecological index value shows that the phytoplankton community in Jembrana coastal waters included in the moderate diversity category is not dominant and evenly distributed. The ecological index value shows that the water quality is categorized as moderately polluted.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the persistence of lemuru management in the waters of the Bali Strait from social and economic perspectives. The methodology involves observations and interviews. Data utilized are based on direct observations and interviews with fishermen in the Pengambengan village. Fishermen interviewed were randomly selected and considered to represent the total lemuru catch using purse seines. Data were analyzed using Monte Carlo analysis with the RAPFISH method to determine which behaviors impact each social and economic factor. RAPFISH ordination results in the economic domain showed an index of 48,36, while in the social dimension, it had an index value of 44,48. These index results indicate that lemuru fisheries management for both economic and social dimensions is deemed less sustainable. Key words: lemuru, fisheries management, PPN Pengambengan

Abstract

The purpose of this community service were to improve the skills of Partner Village "Kampung Vaname" cultivators in making modified Cast Net so as to minimize deaths that occur after partial harvest. The methods used in this service were socialization and training. The target of this service is the cultivator of Partner Village "Kampung Vaname" Marine and Fisheries Polytechnic of Jembrana. The service activity began with the presentation of the material then continued with training in making Cast Net. Evaluation were done by giving pre-test and post-test to all training participants. Based on the service results, there was an increase in the understanding of the farming group in Partner Village about fishing gear that could be applied in the vannamei shrimp cultivation process, the vannamei shrimp farming group in Partner Village was able to make modified Cast Net fishing gear properly, and modified of Cast Net fishing gear could be one of solution for solving the problem of vaname shrimp farmers related to partial post-harvest shrimp mortality.

Abstract

This community service aims to increase the knowledge and skills of fishermen in Pengambengan village, Jembrana Regency, Bali in creating innovative portable rollers as an effective and efficient tool for moving boats. The method of implementing this service uses training with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation. Evaluation of the success level of this service uses a questionnaire instrument, which is analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The results of this service activity show that fishermen can understand well the innovation of portable rollers as an effective and efficient tool for moving boats. Apart from that, fishermen have been able to create and improve existing wheel innovations. The finished rolling innovation can be used by fishermen properly and correctly when moving boats/jukungs to places that are safer from high tides.
