Abstract

One way to find out regionals’ potentials is by calculating location quotient (LQ) in order to identify basic sectors of regions. Previous studies have shown that policy advices given were to pay attention on the basic sectors to improve the regional economy, with less discussion on non-basic sectors. The aims of this study are: (1) to access whether there are trickle down effects from basic to non basic sectors based on LQ calculation, (2) determine non basic and sub sectors of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to be prioritized for development based on Central Java Province’s Medium Term Development Planning. LQ calculations during 2010 to 2016 period show that from 17 economic sectors in Central Java, education services sector was the only sector that a non-basic sector in 2010 and became a basic sector in 2016. LQ results also show that four sectors have always been basic sectors and eight sectors have always been non-basic sectors, the two sectors had changed but returned as before in the next year and two sectors changed from basic sectors to non-basic sectors. This study suggests that Central Java government should pay attention to the non-basic sectors of MSMEs in order to improve the economy of Central Java.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of environmental quality and gender equality on human welfare in Indonesia from 2015-2020, using a panel database of 33 provinces. The results of the model selection testing with the Chow test and the Hausman test recommend regression analysis using the Fix Effect Model (FEM). This study resulted in the finding that there is a unidirectional and significant relationship between gender equality and human well-being. That means that gender inequality has the opposite effect. The second finding is that statistically, there is a positive relationship between environmental quality and human welfare in the case of provinces in Indonesia. The estimation results show that economic growth has a positive and significant relationship with human well-being in Indonesia. This study indicates that human well-being in Indonesia before and during the Covid-19 pandemic shows differences. The novelty of this study is to analyze the effect of gender equality and environmental quality indicators in influencing human welfare. In addition, this research also accommodates the Covid-19 pandemic period in an empirical model.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, macroeconomic variables (interest rate, inflation, exchange rate), and world oil prices on the Jakarta Islamic Index both in the short-term and long term. The data used in this study is secondary data. This study used Error Correction Model (ECM) analysis with weekly time series data in the period March 2020 – March 2021. The results showed that in the short-term variable interest rate and the exchange rate had a significant negative effect on the JII stock index and world oil prices had a significant positive effect on the JII stock index. The Rupiah exchange rate is negative in value, but this decrease in value means appreciation (the rupiah strengthens) meaning that when the rupiah appreciates, the JII stock index increases. Meanwhile, in the long-term, the Covid-19 pandemic variable, interest rates, and the rupiah exchange rate had a significant negative effect on the JII stock index. Inflation had a significant positive effect on the JII stock index. The increase in cases of the Covid-19 pandemic has proven to affect the Indonesian stock market, especially the Jakarta Islamic Index stock index in the long term. Therefore, the government needs to implement the most effective and efficient policies in overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic that impacts the national health and economic stability of the country.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between provincial minimum wages, poverty, unemployment, and income inequality to the environmental quality index (EQI). This research also aims to demonstrate if the Environmental Kuznet Curve (EKC) hypothesis is applicable in Indonesia. This research utilized secondary data collected from 33 provinces in Indonesia between 2012 and 2021. This research used panel regression with Fixed Effect Model (FEM) as the research method. The research results indicated that the provincial minimum wages and poverty positively and significantly affected the EQI. The results also demonstrated that the EKC hypothesis holds true in Indonesia, as illustrated by the significance of the GRDP per capita and GRDP per capita squared. Meanwhile, this research showed that unemployment and income inequality did not significantly impact the environmental quality index. This study offered a new analysis on the impact of provincial minimum wage on EQI in Indonesia. Therefore, this study has contributed to the additional information to the body of knowledge. The government needs to strive for an increase in the development and use of environmentally friendly products, as well as optimization of environmental protection programs. In addition, government needs to increase the provincial minimum wage according to limits set to improve environmental quality. The limited variables and research methods used are expected that further research can complement this study.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the development strategies of the creative economy in the craft subsector in Banyuning Village, Buleleng District, Bali, focusing on three main aspects: production, marketing, and human resource development (HRD). Using a qualitative method with a descriptive design and a case study approach, this research explores current phenomena through interviews, observations, documentation, and questionnaires. Data validity was checked using source triangulation, and data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data collection, data reduction, data display, and verification. The research findings indicate that the development strategy for production requires efficiency and innovation in production techniques, improvement in product quality, and the adoption of environmentally friendly practices. However, there are challenges in capital and technology assistance that are not aligned with the needs of local practitioners. In marketing, the main challenges are the lack of market information access and negotiation capacity, which can be addressed through product diversification, extensive promotion, and the socialization of branding and independent export guidance. For HRD, priorities are given to training and skill development, building an organizational culture that supports collaboration and innovation, and policies that support employee welfare and motivation. This research uses the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine the priority strategies for development. The results show that the three main priorities for production are maintaining sustainability with environmentally friendly practices, product diversification, and adopting the latest technology. In marketing, the priorities are opening profitable market opportunities, extensive promotion, and the socialization of branding and independent export guidance. For HRD, the priorities are employee training and development, building a culture of collaboration and innovation, and policies supporting employee welfare and motivation. With the right strategies and well-planned implementation, it is hoped that the craft industry in Banyuning Village can develop sustainably, contribute positively to the local economy, and preserve environmental sustainability and cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of Regional Original Revenue (PAD) in seven districts/cities in the Solo Raya region during the 2014–2023 period. The independent variables in this study include the Capital Expenditure Ratio, Fiscal Independence Ratio, Poverty Rate, and Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita. A quantitative approach with panel data regression was applied using the Fixed Effects Model, selected based on Chow and Hausman tests. To address the heteroscedasticity issue, the Generalized Least Squares (GLS) method with a panel EGLS approach was employed. The estimation results show that the Capital Expenditure Ratio, Fiscal Independence Ratio, and GRDP per capita have a positive and significant effect on PAD, while the Poverty Rate has no significant effect. The coefficient of determination of 91.93 percent indicates that the model has a very strong explanatory power. These findings suggest that efforts to increase PAD should focus on effective infrastructure development, strengthening fiscal independence, and enhancing regional economic capacity. This research is expected to serve as a reference for local governments in formulating data-driven and region-specific fiscal strategies.

Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) drives a country's economic development. Through increased productivity, FDI contributes to the economy, which can ultimately improve people's welfare. This study aims to analyze the relationship between exchange rate, export, inflation, and interest rate variables on FDI, partially and simultaneously, in four ASEAN countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam, during 2014-2023. This study uses secondary data analyzed using the panel data regression method using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach. The analysis results show that, partially, the exchange rate, inflation, and interest rate variables have a significant adverse effect on FDI. While the export variable has a significant positive effect on FDI. Simultaneously, the exchange rate, export, inflation, and interest rates affect FDI. Strategic policies are needed to increase the competitiveness of FDI in the four ASEAN countries studied. This policy includes stabilizing the exchange rate through interest rate control, increasing value-added exports, and maintaining price stability by the monetary authority so that inflation remains controlled.
