Abstract

The purpose of this research wants to find out the students’ readiness for learning English through blended learning. This research was conducted using quantitative research with a survey method. The population of this research is the 8th grade students at one of junior high schools in Padang, West Sumatra with 250 numbers of students. This study used a total sampling, but only 50 % (125 students) of the students filled out the questionnaire. The online questionnaire using Google form was used and distributed to the students. The results of this study show that the tendency of quite high percentage of the six aspects of student readiness, namely classroom learning, online learning, online interaction, technology, learning flexibility and learning management. These indicate that the junior high school students are ready to learn English by using blended learning

Abstract

Online learning is one way to overcome problem in education field during covit 19 out break. Facing this defiance condition, teachers are demanded more creative  in presenting course by adapting learning model which is more interesting and fun. Team of English lecturers of STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat bridge this condition by having devotion to the community. This activity is as an effort to improve teachers’ communication technique especially to young teachers in presenting their course more interesting by applying fillers theory. Young teachers in SMP Nasional as one of private school are encouraged by applying fillers technique which is applied via the teaching video using the kine master application. Fillers used that are effective in class communication and teaching videos are two the most important things put in this program. Young teachers are the main target in this program since team feels that they still have lack of experiences and teaching time. The team hopes the equipped with the various fillers techniques in constructing various teaching video, their video results will be much better  and interesting for students.

Abstract

Abstract                 This research has purpose to find out how English teachers respond towards students misbehavior. The writers used two instruments in gotten the data which were observation checklist, video and field note.  The sample was two English teachers who taught at VIII grade of Junior high school in Padang. Writers wanted to know how English teachers respond to passive and active misbehavior that has been done by the students in the teaching learning process. The data were the participants which are teacher 1 and teacher 2 used serious and minor respond toward students’ misbehavior. In the students’ passive misbehavior they used difference respond. Teacher 1 used serious respond and teacher 2 used minor response. Then, in the active students’ misbehavior both of the teachers used serious responds.

Abstract

This research investigated students’ belief on learning English as a foreign language at Social Science Department of STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat. Based on the learner-centered approaches to foreign language teaching, it is important for teacher to understand about students’ prior knowledge and experiences, expectations, and attitudes towards language learning. Belief as part of attitude can influence students’ way of thinking, feeling, or making sense of the learning process. Thus, the teachers need to know about students’ belief. The purpose was to find what beliefs about language learning do Social Science Department students hold? The methodology of research is descriptive quantitative research. It describes the phenomena about students’ belief in the field. This study examines all students in Social Science Department of STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat which totally 10 students. The data were taken form a questionnaire. The findings of the research showed that English subject in campus is not enough for students to develop their English ability. However, they belief that they have a special ability in learning English. The results also showed that some students have belief which in learning English students have to know the culture of the native speaker, have good grammar, pronunciation and practice regularly.

Abstract

This article aims to describe form of using address form based on matrilineal progeny in minangkabauneese in Pariaman region, to describe form based on marriage in Minangkabauneese in Pariaman region, and to describe about the address form is given based on the differences of physically appearance and the orderly position in the family kinship in Pariaman region. This research is qualitative research by using descriptive method. The research data is address form in Minangkabauneese in Pariaman region sub – district Pariaman. The source of this research is verbal source as a primary source uttered by informant as native speaker. The data is collected by using listening method, recording technique and writing technique as continuation technique. The research findings are there are 10 address form for grandparents, 12 address form for parents, 33 address form of brothers or sisters from mother,  21 address form of brothers or sisters from father, and 24 address form of older brothers or sisters in Pariaman region.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this researcher wanted to know how English lecturers gave feedback towards student’s task in writing subject. There are two strategies that could be used in giving evaluative feedback. In writing subject, it is very important to see the written feedback that had been given by the lecturers to their college students. Thus the researcher wanted to know how the English lecturers gave written feedback to their students and which strategies they used. Based on the content feedback there are seven indicators which should be searched: focus, comparison, function, valence, clarity, specificity, and tone. The research design of this research is descriptive. This research has been done in the subject English Paragraph Writing of the first year students in the academic year 2022/2023. The sampling technique of this research is random sampling technique which are the data had been taken from three classes. The data are taken from documents which are 21 from 105 documents. The researcher found that English lecturers used evaluative and descriptive feedback strategies.  In evaluative written feedback, the lecturer gave score based on the numbering and letters from students written tasks. Then, in descriptive written feedback lecturers gave feedback based on the content of student’s written based on the indicators.  Keywords: Lecturers Feedback , Student’s Written Performance

Abstract

The problem in this study is why students are not disciplined in online learning at SMK Taman Siswa Padang. Starting from the problems above, this study aims to analyze the reasons students do not discipline in online learning. This type of research is qualitative; the participants of this research are students of class XII TKR (Light Vehicle Engineering) at SMK Taman Siswa Padang in the academic year 2021/2022. The instruments used in this study were Questionnaires and Interviews. To test the validity of the data, the researcher combined the results of the Questionnaire and Interview. Next in doing the analysis. The results showed that students who were not disciplined in online learning at SMK Taman Siswa Padang were: 1. did not like online learning 2. did not care about online learning 3. there was no student interest in online learning 4. there was no student motivation in online learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there was a relationship between the role of parents on students' motivation to learn English. This research was conducted using quantitative methods. In one class there were 31 students including parents as the research sample. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used in this study was SPSS 29 descriptive data analysis technique. The results showed that the role of parents on students' motivation to learn English reached 55.87%. It can be concluded that the role of parents waas very influential on students' learning motivation in learning English. the results of students' motivation to learn English amounted to 79.129%. This show that some children were motivated to learn English because of their liking and interest in learning English despite the lack of parental involvement in their children's English learning. So it can be concluded that parents should pay more attention to children in terms of education.
