Abstract

Centella Asiatica or Pegagan is classified as one of the wild plants that has not been domesticated. The excessive usage of this plant in traditional and modern medicinal applications threatens its population and sustainability. Thus, to preserve the plant and supply the high request of this plant in agromedicinal industry, studies concerned with the growth and bioactive compounds of Pegagan cultivated under commercial field conditions are urgently needed. This study purposed to examine the bioactive components of Pegagan (especially in leaves and roots) under field conditions, including asiaticoside, madeccasoside, and Asiatic acid. The Pegagan was harvested weeks after planting (WAP). The wet and dry weights of the leaves and roots were weighted and subsequently measured for their centelloside compounds by Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) procedure. The results revealed that the resulting asiaticoside content in the roots (1.25%) was higher than in the leaves (0.88%). The same results were achieved for the madecassoside content where the madecasosside content in the roots was 2.23%, while the content in the leaves was 2.11%. However, contrarily, the Asiatic acid compound in the leaves was 1.10% higher than the content in the roots (0.60%). It might be attributed to a longer period of field cultivation of Pegagan that delivered adequate time for the plant to alter Asiatic acid to asiaticoside and madecasosside at a later developmental growth. Moreover, these discoveries are advantageous in defining the most proper harvest time for commercial field cultivation of Pegagan to yield the highest amount of certain centelloside compounds.

Abstract

In Indonesia, especially North Sumatra, chilli is a horticultural good that the people consume extensively. The availability and demand for red chillies in society are quite erratic; when production rises, the price of red chillies is rather low; when production falls, the price of red chillies will rise because of commodity shortage. Processing fresh chillies into chilli sauce, therefore, is one way to solve this issue. Making chillies into chilli sauce improves shelf life and sales value and makes sense for consumption, tastes great and refreshing, and accentuates the flavour of meals. Training courses on food safety for the Pulau Gambar people in Serbajadi District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, concentrated on chilli sauce processing technology and comprised the community service activities. The training sought to equip the residents with the tools required to create premium chilli sauce, which can be both a source of income and a way to support local cooking customs. Improving their understanding of food safety and processing methods will help the community to guarantee that their goods satisfy health criteria and also attract a larger market. This exercise seeks to guarantee the produced chilli sauce is fit for consumption. The approach was applied sauce. Of the 37 participants in the service activities, 100% said the outcomes were favourable; 69% (15 people) said they intended to try it themselves, and 31% said they were not sure yet.

Abstract

The limited understanding of MSME partners regarding pasteurization technology, particularly better pasteurization equipment, results in poor pasteurization outcomes and frequent spoilage of milk during goat milk production, such as during the milking process, pasteurization, and spoilage of goat milk due to harmful bacteria. Goat milk often spoils due to bacterial contamination and a lack of hygiene during the goat milk production process, making the milk easily damaged and its shelf life very short. and the lack of education regarding dairy product diversification, bookkeeping management, and halal certification are obstacles to the development of MSMEs. The purpose of this service is to provide milk pasteurization machinery, conduct training, and introduce modern milk pasteurization machine technology that can increase the production of goat milk by the Geshine House Partners. This service was carried out as one solution to the problems faced by partners thru training on the use of pasteurization technology, bookkeeping management, PIRT (Home Industry Permit), halal certification, and the provision of milk pasteurization equipment. The activities were conducted thru training on the use of pasteurization technology, business bookkeeping management, and halal certification training. The use of a milk pasteurization machine has improved the quality of goat milk production from Mitra's business, and has made the packaging process easier to maintain shelf life, thus optimizing the productivity of Geshine's house goat milk production.

Abstract

Health and economy are two sectors that gave a greatest impact on societies’ life. As the result, agricultural activity become returning to be excellent considering while many other secondary and tertiary sectors are paralyzed by the presence of this virus. One of the promising agricultural commodities among all for planting at this time is spices such as ginger and turmeric because of their advantage as immunity boosters. Available in quite comprehensive space of agricultural land in Indonesia, North Sumatera is still potential to be planted. Among the various effected communities, Dorema Nusantara orphanage that located in Medan Helvetia district, Deli Serdang Regency was choosen as location for this community service activity with considering that the respondents was the one who received a heavily affect by this pandemic. The activity used organic cultivation method because of the abundant availability of raw materials for litter and household waste around this place. Respondents were very enthusiastic about participating in this activity. They also hope that this activity can take place in a sustainable manner.
