Abstract

This research was conducted to improve students' ability in writing procedure text using project-based learning. The formulation of the problem is: “Does the use of project-based learning improve the students' ability in writing procedure text”. The aims  of the research is: “To find out whether the use of project-based  learning improves the students' ability in writing procedure text”. In this research, the subject of the research were the grade XI-1 students at SMA Al-Washliyah Tanjung Morawa  in  2021/2022 academic  years  which  consists  of  30  students.  In  carrying out  this  research,  the  researcher  used  classroom  action  research  (CAR)  as  a research  method. The researcher  used  the  Kemmis  and  Mc  Taggart  model. The researchers  and  English  teachers  collaborated  onthis  research.  Researchers  as teachers  and  teachers  as  observers.  This  research  was  carried  out  based  on research  procedures,  namely  planning,  action,  observation,  and  reflection.  This research  consisted  of  two  cycles.  One  cycle  consisted  of  two  meetings.The instruments used for  get data were interview guidelines, questionnaire, test, and field notes. To analyze student scores, the mean of students, the class percentage, and percentage of  students'  improvement formulas  are used. The results  of the research  using  project-based  learning  showed  that  there  was  an  increase  in students'  ability  in  writing  procedure  text.  Students  get  grades  gradually  until students  get  good  grades.  The  minimum  completeness  criteria  score  (KKM)  in English subjects is 75. The average score of students on the pre-test is 61.13. The average score of students in post-test one is 69.06 and there are 40% of students who can get the KKM score. The students' mean score on post-test two was 78.4. And there are 83.3% of students who can get the KKM score. This means that the research has succeeded in achieving the success criteria, namely 75% of students get the KKM score. In addition, there were very positive responses from students and teachers regarding the use of project-based learning.So, it can be concluded that project-based learning can improve students' ability in writing procedure text

Abstract

This study aims to determine the extent to which the Visual Auditory Kinesthetic (VAK) model influences the basic techniques of basketball passing. that the teacher has directed in carrying out the practice directly or in theory that has been taught. Then in this study the authors used a descriptive quantitative research method with a one-group pretest-posttest design model, where the researcher described the results in this study by revealing data in the form of numbers that had been analyzed using the SPSS application. Then the results of this study can be seen in some of the following data from the resulting research, it is known that the resulting significance value of 0.144 is greater than 0.06. So it can be concluded that the data tested is normally distributed. Then test the hypothesis through the paired sample t-test that the resulting average pre-test is 54.62 and 81.30 post-test. Therefore, the results of the post-test were better than the pre-test and the resulting standard deviation was for the pretest 13,240 and for the post-test 9,096. Then the results of the other paired sample t-test showed that the results were sig. (2-tailed) obtained by 0.000 (sig.2-tailed), namely 0.000 <0.06, meaning that there is an influence of the visual auditory kinesthetic model in the results of Improve  the basic technique of passing basketball.

Abstract

Vocabulary is the main thing that needs to be known in English, without vocabulary no one can speak English. Many students at school do not know vocabulary in English. Therefore an effective strategy is needed for students to be able to find vocabulary easily, especially when reading in English. Understanding the vocabulary is highly needed to makes students easy in learning. This study aims to examine the use of a learning strategy, namely journal vocabulary in reading comprehension texts. The research method used is library research (literature study) from 5 journals in Indonesia in the period 2013-2023. The results of the study show that the use of journals vocabulary is very effective for students. Journals vocabulary can help them to enrich their vocabulary knowledge, because it is easier for them to memorize vocabulary. In addition, the use of journals vocabulary also increases their independence in learning English vocabulary and journal vocabulary can facilitate them to track their progress in vocabulary knowledge and make it easier for them to understand reading texts. Thus, the use of journals vocabulary is really necessary for students so that they can learn English more pleasantly in the classroom by using this strategy. These results are expected to contribute ideas for skills in the field of English, especially the learning strategy because it has unlimited benefits in the field of education to be developed.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the students’ speaking skill through British Parliamentary (BP) debate System. This observation was taken 18 Days which started from Thursday, 13th February to 12 March 2020. The Qualitative Research Method was used in this research. The subjects of this research chosen randomly were 8 student as the representative of students in the fourth semester of English education UMN Al Washliyah Medan Class A, academic year 2019-2020. The population from this research were the whole students in the 4th semester English Education Department Class A.Technique of collecting data used was the observation in which the students were observed during debate class by using observation sheet designed with theory of Finocchiaro in Armasita (2017) to know the ability that have been achieved by the students and all the data found from 8 subjects of research that have been analyzed by the researcher there were 4 indicators/elements, namely pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. After the research conducted, it was found that there were 3 students with the higher speaking skill, 4 students with the moderate speaking skill, and only one student categories as the unsatisfied speaking skill. Shortly, this finding of the research was appropriate with the assumption in this research that is debate is effective to increase the students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

Pinjaman Dana Online (Pinjol) adalah bentuk pinjaman uang dengan memanfaatkan teknologi yang memungkinkan pemberi dan penerima pinjaman melakukan transaksi pinjam meminjam tanpa harus bertemu langsung. Maraknya perusahaan Pinjol ilegal yang tumbuh beberapa tahun belakangan, menimbulkan korban di kalangan mahasiswa. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pemahaman literasi digital tentang pinjol kepada mahasiswa Fakulti Sains Sosial Gunaan Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin Malaysia. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah pendidikan masyarakat yang dilakukan dalam tiga tahap, yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 80 orang mahasiswa. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan memberikan kuisioner pretes dan postes. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa sebelum dilakukan sosialisasi, terdapat 85% mahasiswa yang memahami literasi digital tentang pinjol dan setelah kegiatan dilakukan terdapat 95% mahasiswa yang memahami literasi digital tentang pinjol. Secara keseluruhannya, mahasiswa sangat antusias terhadap kegiatan ini dan secara tidak langsung dapat meningkatkan pemahaman literasi digital tentang pinjol.

Abstract

Competence in responding in English communication is a fundamental ability. The principle of English communication is that it is balanced according to individual needs, open spoken language, takes place in a curriculum and has diversity. The basic principles of acceptable English communication include 3 points, namely contextual, in line with scope and responsive. Context-based English speaking training trains teachers to teach English not just language knowledge, but also includes balanced cognitive and psychomotor skills. This service activity has become a solution to students' low basic skills in communicating using foreign languages. The implementation methods used to solve partners' priority problems are focus group discussions (FGD), training and mentoring, teaching simulations for implementing TPR and basic English based on contextual purpose, speaking tests based on context for students. The teachers were very enthusiastic after participating in this training and it became easier to modify English learning for elementary school students in a more natural and applied way.

Abstract

Model Project based Learning (PjBL) adalah model pembelajaran yang inovatif dan berpusat kepada mahasiswa dalam menghasilkan suatu proyek pembelajaran. Model PjBL ini menuntut mahasiswa untuk dapat berpikir kritis dan kreatif, sedangkan peran pendidik sebagai fasilitator dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kreativitas mahasiswa dalam mendesain media pembelajaran berbasis literasi melalui penerapan model PjBL dalam proses belajar mengajar pada mata kuliah Bahasa Indonesia SD. Peranan media dalam pembelajaran sangatlah penting, sehingga mahasiswa harus diberikan bekal dalam mendesain media pembelajaran yang sesuai untuk menjadi guru yang kreatif dan professional. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Prodi PGSD UMN Al Washliyah. Dalam penelitian ini, pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi, catatan lapangan, dan dokumentasi.

Abstract

Berbicara merupakan suatu cara menyampaikan makna, mengungkapkan gagasan dan perasaan melalui ujaran verbal pada kondisi apa pun dan dalam berbagai konteks. Sebagian besar mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris UMN Al Washliyah, khususnya mahasiswa semester 8 masih menunjukkan kesulitan dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris. Fenomena tersebut disebabkan oleh terbatasnya jumlah kosa kata dan singkatnya durasi latihan mendengarkan penutur asli. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kosakata berbicara siswa dan bagaimana informan meningkatkan kosakata berbicara mereka secara efektif. Metode Penelitian Kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Subyek penelitian yang dipilih adalah 2 orang mahasiswa sebagai perwakilan mahasiswa semester delapan Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris UMN Al Washliyah Medan. Teknik pengumpulan datanya adalah teknik wawancara. Pertama, informan akan ditanyai pertanyaan-pertanyaan umum yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan kosakata mereka dalam berbicara. Setelah itu, para informan akan diberikan beberapa pertanyaan terkait pengalamannya dalam kosakata berbicara. Temuannya menunjukkan bahwa, faktor-faktor yang benar-benar mempengaruhi kosakata berbicara informan adalah membaca dan mendengarkan. Dengan membaca beberapa kosakata baru dan mengecek pengucapannya, proses tersebut akan mempengaruhi kosakata berbicara informan. Dan peran penting yang membantu informan dalam meningkatkan kosakata berbicara informan adalah media sosial. Informan mengatakan yang berperan penting adalah Instagram dan Twitter.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how the benefits of social media platforms such as Youtube ,Instagram ,and Tiktok to help junior high school students learn their English speaking skils .The method used in this study is a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with 10 students from high school level. The respondets were selected purposively by considering their experience in using social media as a means of learning English, especially speaking skilss. The results show that Youtube helps students imitate the pronunciation of native speakers, Instagram helps add new vocabulary, and Tiktok makes students more confident in speaking through short videos. All of these of these platforms make students more enthusiastic about learning and practicing speaking English in a fun way.

Abstract

The aims of this research to analyze the student’s speaking ability through role play technique at SMP Swasta Pembangunan Galang. This research applied with the teacher and students perception of Role Play Technique that has been applied by the Teacher at SMP Swasta Pembangunan Galang and do the Teacher understand how to apply role play technique. By conducting the research with a teacher and some students, the researcher wanted to analyze whether there were different perceptions toward to the technique or not. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research to obtain the result of the research accurately. The instruments of this research used Interview and questionnaire. In observation behavior, the researcher asked the teacher and 2 students perception of Role Play Technique during using the technique. In addition, the researcher also used questionnaire to analyze the teacher perception to the Role Play Technique and to know do the teacher understand how to apply role play technique. Based on the finding, the researcher found a positive perception towards the technique. Each of the teacher and students had different perception to the Role Play Technique but the main point of the statements in the interview are the same and the result of the questionnaire from the teacher show the teacher 83% agree and understand how to apply Role Play Technique. Because the result of this research contained many positive perceptions and the the Teacher understand how to apply the Role Play Technique, It means that the teacher and students accepted and agree Role Play Technique is effective to increase students’ speaking abilty.
