Abstract

Maintenance is one of the important things to maintain a company in the industry. A company, such as LNG production company, must be able to produce and meet energy needs independently to support all operations, such as cooling water system that functions to control the temperature and pressure so that the production process runs optimally. If this system is disrupted, there will be excess use of water, waste water, and energy costs needed which result in higher total operational costs. With good and right care, it can reduce all risks posed. One component that plays a role in the cooling water system is a pump. This pump serves to flow the cooling water which is seawater to the LNG industry plant. At present, the amount of Work Order data recorded from the problems obtained from the pump requires maintenance updates. In this study, the method in the maintenance programs are used based on the Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) implementation. RCM will increase cost efficiency, reliability, pump uptime, and propose maintenance tasks. Beside pump, the reviewing also involve supports components that affect pump optimization. In this paper, the functions, causes, and effects are identified and the new scheduled maintenance tasks are shown

Abstract

On October 2013, Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE – ONWJ) platform personnel found 93 leaking tubes locations in the finfan coolers/ gas-cooling heat exchanger. After analysis had been performed, the crack in the tube strongly indicate that stress corrosion cracking was occurred by chloride. Chloride stress corrosion cracking (CLSCC) is the cracking occurred by the combined influence of tensile stress and a corrosive environment. CLSCC is the one of the most common reasons why austenitic stainless steel pipework or tube and vessels deteriorate in the chemical processing, petrochemical industries and maritime industries. In this thesis purpose to determine the appropriate inspection planning for two main items (tubes and header box) in the gas-cooling heat exchanger using risk based inspection (RBI) method. The result, inspection of the tubes must be performed on July 6, 2024 and for the header box inspection must be performed on July 6, 2025. In the end, RBI method can be applicated to gas-cooling heat exchanger. Because, risk on the tubes can be reduced from 4.537 m2/year to 0.453 m2/year. And inspection planning for header box can be reduced from 4.528 m2/year to 0.563 m2/year.

Abstract

Transportation oil and gas mostly used pipelines transportation. The condition of a pipeline must be continually monitored to ensure that defects do not cause it to fail and operate optimally. Pipeline has the possibility to experience defects during operations such as general corrosion, fatigue, crack, and others. Defects that occur in the pipeline during operation have serious consequences including loss of property, personal injury, or even loss of lives and serious ecological pollution. Awareness of the importance of conducting pipeline monitoring and safety issues for workers and residents around the pipeline site, emphasizes the importance of developing a technology for conducting pipeline monitoring activities in real time. The new technology for detecting metal defects is by using piezoelectric material. Based on laboratory scale, piezoelectric sensor can be applied to monitor pipeline defect. However, it is necessary challenges to scaling up in real application are following: (1) financial investment, (2) human behavior surrounding pipeline area, (3) receiving signal in long distance, (4) protection of piezoelectric sensor, (5) combination survey for future development.

Abstract

Each ship carrying a hydrocarbon must be equipped with an inert gas system. On tankers, the function of inert gas is to prevent fires or explosions caused by oxygen levels contained in cargo tanks. Inert gas is produced by cleaning the exhaust gas boiler using a sea water scrubber system. However, seawater has corrosive properties that cause the use of material in scrubber system components to be resistant to corrosion. Therefore, through this research a modification of the sea water scrubber system was made into a freshwater scrubber system. The advantages of a freshwater scrubber system include a low corrosive level that causes the use of inexpensive materials. Modification of seawater scrubber systems into fresh water causes additional components to be made, including adding NaOH tank, expansion tank of freshwater, seawater pumps, freshwater pumps, NaOH pumps, heat exchanger, and wash water treatment unit. Economic calculations are carried out to determine the installation costs and operational costs needed from this modification. Based on the technical and economical analysis, modification of the sea water scrubber system into fresh water inert gas system of Crude Oil Tanker 85,000 DWT can be done with an estimated installation cost of 1.5 Bill. Rupiahs.

Abstract

Crew scheduling is one of most important operational problems in airline industries. Crew scheduling Problem consists of two steps that is "Crew Pairing" and "Crew Rostering". The research focusses on building Boeing 737-200's monthly pilot rostering of PT. X Airlines based on given pilot pairings. There are some vertical and horizontal regulations must be fulfilled in so that the problem becomes very complex and cannot be solved using a pure exact method in reasonable computational time. Accordingly, we propose a decomposition exact method to solve the problem. Our model was run using LINGO Optimization software. Experiment results showed that our schedules are outperform than the existing schedules of the airline for the case of May 2006.

Abstract

This research introduces the development of Hybrid Scatter Search Heuristic for solving cockpit crew (pilot and co-pilot) rostering problem. This research aims to minimize the deviation of flight hours among the cockpit crew of an airline, Garuda Indonesia Airline, during the one-month planning horizon. The weakness of the existing algorithm used in the airline, which is a trial-and-error algorithm, is that the variation among crew flight times for one month is too significant and the scheduling process takes a quite long time. We tested the performance of our proposed algorithm to that of the existing algorithm. The numerical experiments showed that the proposed algorithm had outperformed the existing algorithm. More specifically, we found some in sensitivity analysis experiments. Our experiment results showed that that the higher the flight time target, the higher the total deviation of flight time. We also conducted several experiments to show the robustness of our proposed algorithm. First, we tested the relationship between the number of pilots who can use their preferences and the total deviation of flight time. We conducted experiments by giving the cockpit crew the opportunity to choose a day off. Finally, we analyzed the results by changing the number of cockpit crew.

Abstract

Manufacturing technology becomes more complex as customer demand increases. Most manufacturing companies consist of multi-state manufacturing networks. Therefore, the reliability and availability parameters become an important issue to satisfy customer demand. Unavailability can result in reducing throughput because of decreasing operational production time. To resolve this problem, the buffer inventory can minimize the occurrence of material starving and production blocking during the equipment downtime. This paper will focus on experimenting with buffer inventory levels and the capacity of a multi-state manufacturing network to increase the production throughput on a company that has 70,000 tons per year of capacity. However, due to the unavailability problem, the existing system capacity decreases to 62,175 tons per year. The simulation model is used to improve throughput by modeling the failure interruption and the buffer inventory logics during the production process.
