Abstract

Aviation has become an important aspect in human life thanks to its ability to transport people to faraway places with short duration and relatively low cost. However, aviation activities are highly influenced by uncertain events such as weather conditions. One of the activities that is impacted by these 2 events is turnaround operations. Turnaround operations is an activity performed to prepare aircraft for the next flight. This research aims to evaluate and improve turnaround operations performance both from relative duration tardiness (?T%) and on-time performance (OTP) using discrete-event simulation approach. Results obtained from simulation model show that the value of ?T% is 43.48% and OTP of 54.20%. Improvement scenarios are developed by arranging the new ground support staff (GSS) schedule and allocation as well as adding GSS at a certain rate. Scenario of implementing new schedule and allocation and adding GSS with rate of 50% comes out as the selected scenario which could improve ?T% and OTP performance to become 33.35% and 54.91% respectively.

Abstract

ABSTRACT A production line is designed to ensure that production activities run smoothly and achieve maximum output. However, its smooth operation can be disrupted if a bottleneck occurs in certain activities or processes, significantly reducing the production rate. This research aims to identify and analyze bottlenecks within a food industry production line using a simulation-based approach. The simulation results of the existing conditions indicate that the packing process is the primary bottleneck. Through an improvement scenario involving a combination of more flexible manual packing machine assignments and the addition of conveyors, the simulation demonstrated that hourly production throughput could increase by 8.6%.

Abstract

The dynamics and challenges of the business environment require companies to adapt quickly and responsively to changes. The ability to meet customer expectations through quality products and services at competitive prices is the key to the company's sustainability. A reliable supply chain plays an important role in this matter, not only ensuring economic efficiency, but also paying attention to social and environmental aspects. Trusted suppliers are the main support to ensure the availability of quality raw materials, competitive costs, and are supported by good after-sales service. This research aims to develop an integrated model to overcome the problem of supplier selection and raw material order allocation at PT. IKSG. The model combines the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Linear Programming approaches. AHP is used to objectively evaluate and determine the best supplier selection, while Linear Programming allocates the optimal order quantity to each of the selected suppliers. The study's results successfully identified the criteria for selecting suppliers that support the concept of sustainability. The three main criteria obtained were economic (weight 63.16%), environment (weight 26.67%), and social (weight 10.17%). Economic criteria have subcriteria of quality, cost, availability, flexibility, delivery, and finance. Environmental criteria have subcriteria for waste management, reputation, and environment-related certificates. Social criteria have subcriteria for the rights of employees, working hours, and worker safety. From the evaluation of six alternative suppliers, the three best suppliers were selected. The optimal allocation of raw material orders is allocated to SDP (S1), PT (S5) and SCG (S6) in order.

Abstract

This research is driven by the need of PLN Distribution Main Unit to mitigate the extreme risk of high account balances on the 21st of each month, which can disrupt cash flow and financial performance. One mitigation strategy is replacing conventional kWh meters with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), or two-way meters, which allow remote disconnection. The purpose of this study is to prioritize customers for meter replacement based on limited material availability and to optimize replacement routes under restricted team resources. The method used involves the K-means algorithm for customer segmentation, validated by silhouette score, which resulted in six optimal clusters. Genetic algorithm was then applied to determine the most efficient routes based on distance and time. The results showed that the optimal route had a minimum total travel distance of 1,434.29 km and a total time of 18,868.58 minutes, using a population size of 50 chromosomes and 500 generations. This study is expected to offer an effective solution for improving operational efficiency and risk mitigation at PLN.

Abstract

The coal mining logistics industry in Indonesia has a strategic role as the world's largest coal producer, with a significant contribution to state revenue. This study aims to analyze the main obstacles, wastes that occur, and proposed improvements in the coal loading and unloading process at PT XYZ to increase efficiency and productivity through a lean thinking approach. The methodology of this research includes a qualitative approach through value stream mapping and quantitative using fishbone diagrams to produce a comprehensive analysis. The analysis is carried out through process activity mapping, the preparation of current state maps, and the design of future state maps to provide suggestions for improvement. Based on the results of the study, several recommendations for improvement were obtained from the results of the analysis on coal unloading or loading activities which included Value Added (VA) or Necessary but Non-Value Added (NNVA). The proposed improvements include the application of double crossing dismantling methods, digitization of administrative processes, and the use of drone technology to facilitate the physical inspection process in the field. If the proposal can be implemented, there will be an increase in the time effectiveness of coal loading and unloading activities by 14.20%, with details of unloading activities increasing by 25.30% or from 1,004 minutes to 750 minutes, and coal loading activities by 3.10% or from 3,067 minutes to 2,972 minutes.

Abstract

Inventory control in utility companies is crucial due to its potential to improve the achievement of sales revenue ratios in serving New Connection (PB) and Power Change (PD) requests. In inventory management, accurate demand planning is essential to minimize both excess and shortage of materials. The inaccuracy in calculating inventory parameters for Distribution Main Materials (MDU), especially for PB and PD, is primarily due to the lack of consideration for demand uncertainty, often resulting in stockouts or overstock. This study aims to optimize inventory management and minimize MDU inventory costs based on the company's inventory policy by classifying MDU according to criticality levels ABA, ABB, and ABC. Short-term forecasting is conducted using exponential smoothing or double exponential smoothing, selecting the method with the smallest forecasting error. Inventory parameters are calculated using the Continuous Review (s,S) and Periodic Review (R,s,S) methods, compared against the company's current condition, and the most optimal policy is selected under stochastic demand conditions. After selecting the best parameters among the three policies, total inventory cost and Service Level per MDU are calculated using Material Requirement Planning (MRP) simulation. By applying inventory policy parameters using the Periodic Review method (R,s,S), the total inventory cost and Service Level for each MDU classification (ABA, ABB, ABC) vary, with an average inventory cost of IDR 76 billion for ABA, IDR 3.6 billion for ABB, and IDR 844 million for ABC, and a Service Level of 98%. This allows the company to achieve inventory cost savings of up to 70% within 36 months compared to the current condition.
