Abstract

People with depression have potential and symptoms that lead to acts of self-harm and a desire to end life. Conventional approaches in this regard, medical and psychological approaches, can overcome depression but have limitations, so there is a crucial need to expand interventions, including in spiritual contexts. People with depression must be helped holistically so that Pastoral Counseling Assistance can be the answer. This paper aims to describe pastoral counseling assistance as an indispensable effort for sufferers (victims) of depression impacting self-harm and suicide to get complete and sustainable recovery by restoring themselves, reasoning, and having hope and enthusiasm to live the reality of life. This research uses qualitative methods with a literature-review approach to obtaining relevant data. The results of this study show that holistic pastoral counseling assistance and using an integrated approach based on conditions and needs is effective in helping people with depression overcome depression and negative impulses.

Abstract

This study discusses the defense mechanisms of adolescent bullies, the factors that cause adolescents to use bullying as a form of defense mechanism and how defense mechanisms can be utilized as a pastoral counseling strategy. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The data were obtained from observations, interviews and literature studies related to defense mechanisms for bullying adolescents. Where the defense mechanisms in adolescent bullies are irrational, destructive and aggressive. This is caused by an ego that has not yet developed and matured, as well as the bullies relationship with family, parents, peers, school and church. Therefore, through pastoral counseling, the bullies as the counselee will be assisted and directed to use a healthy defense mechanism. Defense mechanisms such as repression, diversion, reaction formation, regression and sublimation will be used as a pastoral counseling strategy. So negative defense mechanisms can be trained and diverted by processing or dealing with anxiety and conflicts in healthier manners. Defense mechanism can also be used to help bullies to stop using bullying as a defense mechanism through its use as a pastoral counseling strategy.

Abstract

This article explores the integration of spirituality in pastoral counseling through a holistic Christian education approach. The research reveals that spirituality is not merely an additional element, but a fundamental dimension that animates the entire counseling process. A systematic literature review found significant gaps in pastoral counseling practices in Indonesia, where the spiritual dimension is often separated from the psychological approach. The article analyzes the theological foundation of spirituality as the basis for pastoral counseling, explores a holistic approach in integrating spiritual dimensions with psychological aspects, and formulates an implementation model of spiritual harmony in pastoral counselor education programs. Findings indicate that harmonizing spirituality in pastoral counseling requires a systematic approach through integrated curriculum, spiritual formation, supervision models based on theological reflection, and contextualization relevant to Indonesian realities. This model's implementation impacts individual recovery and contributes to transforming faith communities and developing counseling approaches responsive to contemporary challenges.   Abstrak Artikel ini mengeksplorasi integrasi spiritualitas dalam konseling pastoral melalui pendekatan pendidikan Kristiani yang holistik. Penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa spiritualitas bukan sekadar elemen tambahan, melainkan dimensi fundamental yang menjiwai seluruh proses konseling. Melalui kajian literatur sistematis, ditemukan adanya kesenjangan signifikan dalam praktik konseling pastoral di Indonesia, di mana dimensi spiritualitas seringkali dipisahkan dari pendekatan psikologis. Artikel menganalisis fondasi teologis spiritualitas sebagai landasan konseling pastoral, mengeksplorasi pendekatan holistik dalam mengintegrasikan dimensi spiritual dengan aspek psikologis, serta merumuskan model implementasi harmoni spiritualitas dalam program pendidikan konselor pastoral. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa harmonisasi spiritualitas dalam konseling pastoral membutuhkan pendekatan sistematis melalui kurikulum terintegrasi, pembentukan spiritual, model supervisi berbasis refleksi teologis, dan kontekstualisasi yang relevan dengan realitas Indonesia. Implementasi model ini tidak hanya berdampak pada pemulihan individu, tetapi juga berkontribusi pada transformasi komunitas iman dan pengembangan pendekatan konseling yang responsif terhadap tantangan kontemporer.

Abstract

The transformation of the Messianic paradigm of Jesus as a role model for Christian political education addresses and actively participates in Indonesian democracy in the context of the 2024 elections. In this political situation in Indonesia, Jesus is seen as a figure who exemplifies how to interact with the world of politics in an ethical and integrity manner. Based on the theological view from Daniel 7:13-14 regarding the Son of Man, Jesus' Messiahship is emphasized again in Mark 8:27-30. Dismissing the Jewish view represented by Peter regarding Jesus as the Revolutionary Messiah, Jesus actually exemplifies a very different paradigm. He is not a political leader but his leadership values ​​are visible in his service which aims for a new, more dignified way of life. This paradigm suggests that Christian political education should focus on teaching values ​​such as justice, compassion, and service to others, in line with the teachings of Jesus. This transformation is important in the current political context, where integrity and ethics are often questioned. By taking Jesus as a role model, Christian political education can help form leaders with principles and integrity.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai Pendampingan Pastoral bagi remaja yang terlibat dalam penyalahgunaan obat, yang masih belum diterapkan secara optimal. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mendorong remaja terjerumus dalam penyalahgunaan obat, strategi yang dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi dan mencegahnya, serta bentuk pendampingan pastoral yang efektif untuk membantu remaja keluar dari perilaku tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif, yang melibatkan teknik Observasi dan Wawancara. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini meliputi remaja yang terlibat dalam penyalahgunaan obat, orang tua mereka, dan para pelayan khusus di KGPM Anugerah Malalayang. Faktor utama yang menyebabkan remaja terjerumus dalam penyalahgunaan obat adalah kurangnya dukungan dan perhatian, sementara strategi untuk mengatasi dan mencegah penyalahgunaan obat meliputi pengembangan minat dan bakat remaja, serta penyelenggaraan seminar atau sosialisasi untuk meningkatkan wawasan mereka. Bentuk pendampingan pastoral yang diterapkan berupa konseling, yaitu membantu remaja memahami masalah mereka dengan lebih baik dan memberikan dukungan untuk membangun kepercayaan diri, sehingga mereka dapat mengatasi masalah saat ini dan menghadapi tantangan di masa depan.

Abstract

Church ministry often demands high commitment and dedication, which can lead to burnout in church ministers. Burnout is a condition of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion due to prolonged stress that impacts performance and personal well-being. This study aims to examine the importance of pastoral counseling assistance in helping church ministers overcome burnout. The method used is a case study with a qualitative approach through interviews with church ministers who experience burnout. The results showed that a pastoral counseling approach based on spiritual healing, and an empathic emotional approach can provide significant support for church ministers to overcome burnout. In addition, the importance of the role of pastoral assistants who provide space for church ministers to talk, reflect, and accelerate the recovery process. This study suggests that churches pay more attention to the mental and spiritual health of church ministers through structured and sustainable mentoring programs to maintain the balance of their lives in carrying out ministerial duties.

Abstract

In today's rapidly changing world, mental well-being is a critical aspect of human life. The complexities of modern living often lead to stress, anxiety, and disillusionment, compromising mental health. As holistic beings comprising body, soul, and spirit, achieving mental well-being cannot be separated from spiritual dimensions. This study explores the role of pastoral counseling education as a bridge to mental well-being, particularly within the Christian faith. By integrating spiritual and psychological perspectives, this research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of mental well-being, addressing the intricate relationships between interpersonal relationships, work, and life's meaning. Ultimately, this study seeks to contribute to the development of a transformative pastoral counseling approach that fosters mental well-being, promoting a deeper sense of peace and wholeness that transcends human understanding

Abstract

This research discusses the role of pastoral counseling assistance in helping single mothers or young single mothers face life challenges, especially in the context of the church. Single mothers are often faced with economic problems, social pressure, negative stigma, and complex psychological issues. This condition is exacerbated by their young age, which is often emotionally immature in facing the dual role of mother and head of the family. The Client-Centered approach proposed by Carl Rogers was chosen as a counseling method that emphasizes empathy, support without judgment, and provides space for the counselee to reflect and find their own problem solutions. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach that emphasizes objective field observations. Through systematic counseling stages, such as establishing trust, data identification, diagnosis, plan development, help implementation, and evaluation, pastoral assistance is expected to run effectively and help single mothers restore their mental and spiritual health.

Abstract

In the digital era, technological developments have had a significant impact on access to information, especially through the doomscrolling phenomenon. Affects an individual's ability to live daily life effectively. This research aims to examine the psychological impact of doomscrolling and explore the role of pastoral counselors in helping individuals overcome the negative impacts of this habit. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research collected data through literature reviews, academic articles, case studies, and interviews with pastoral counselors and individuals affected by doomscrolling. Thematic analysis identified key patterns and themes related to this phenomenon, while data validation techniques ensured the accuracy and reliability of the findings. The results showed that doomscrolling had a significant impact on psychological well-being, including increased anxiety, depression and sleep disturbances. Pastoral counselors can help individuals develop strategies to overcome these negative impacts through a holistic approach that includes empathetic listening, healthy boundary development, and spiritual formation. Religious community support has also proven important in providing a sense of community and social connection that helps individuals deal with the negative impacts of doomscrolling. Building resilience through pastoral guidance enables individuals to manage stress more effectively and maintain their mental and spiritual well-being amidst digital challenges.

Abstract

This article aims to identify and analyze the synergy of Christian Religious Education teachers and Counseling Guidance teachers in pastoral counseling to students from broken home families at SMK PP Negeri Kalasey. This study used an analytic descriptive qualitative research approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews and documentation. From the results of data analysis and interpretation, it is obtained that Christian Religious Education teachers in teaching and providing counseling guidance to students from broken home families synergize with Counseling Guidance teachers whose role is to provide counseling guidance to these students. This is indicated by the role of Christian Religious Education teachers and Counseling Guidance teachers collaborating to conduct pastoral counseling to students from broken home families and how Christian Religious Education teachers and Counseling Guidance teachers work together to conduct pastoral counseling. So from the findings it is recommended that all parties can work together in educating and guiding students from broken home families who have problems experiencing spiritual growth and better character changes.
