Abstract

Field grass was a source of ruminant forage, especially for rural farmers in  the West Java in different altitude. The aim of this study was to determine the potential of grass during  the dry season which included the botanical composition analysis and chemical analysis of nutritional value. The study was conducted from September to November 2015. The method used was a survey method, sampling was multistage sampling. The parameters measured in the study included a botanical composition of the forage, biomass production of feed materials on fresh and dry matter, dry material content, an inorganic material included ash, calcium and phosphorus, protein, crude fiber, extract materials without nitrogen, and crude fat. The results showed that the areas in  the West Java were drought in September and October, thus resulting in very limited supply of forage and the productivity of the forages was very low. A botanical composition in the highland area was more complete included grass, legumes and weeds than lowland areas and medium altitude. Forage production in highland areas was higher than in lowland areas and medium altitude. Feed plants in the lowlands had a greater fiber content which was forming energy for plants, and lower crude protein when compared to highland

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of antibacterial formulations derived from herbal plants against mastitis-causing bacteria in dairy cattle. Herbal extracts composed of betel leaves extract, kecombrang flower extract, and turmeric extract were tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Escherichia coli. The research was carried out in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) using ten treatments and four replications at the Laboratory of Research and Testing, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Padjadjaran University. The results showed that herbal antibacterial formulations could inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Escherichia coli bacteria. The most inhibitory power was obtained from P8 treatment (50% betel leaves + 50% kecombrang flower + 50% turmeric) categorized in "strong inhibition." The percentage of antibacterial inhibition of P8 formulation compared to chloramphenicol was 32% against Staphylococcus aureus, 33% against Streptococcus agalactiae, and 31% against Escherichia coli. Conclusively, the best herbal antibacterial formulation was a combination of 50% betel leaves extract, 50% kecombrang flower extract, and 50% turmeric extract.

Abstract

Turkey is one of the poultry commodities with the potential to be a source of animal protein for the community. Optimal turkey productivity must be supported by the provision of rations that in quality and quantity can meet the needs of the livestock, including by providing additional feed that is relatively cheap but has high nutritional value. This research aimed to determine the effect of providing additional feed with cassava leaves and tofu dregs in the ration on turkey productivity and to obtain the percentage of additional feeding with cassava leaves and tofu dregs in the ration that produces the best productivity. The method used experimental and Completely Randomized Design, 3 treatments, namely P1: giving 90% basal ration + 5% cassava leaves + 5% tofu dregs, P2: giving 80% basal ration + 10% cassava leaves + 10% tofu dregs, and P3: giving 70% basal ration + 15% cassava leaves + 15% tofu dregs, replicated 8 times, each replication consisting of 4 turkeys. The variables observed were ration consumption, body weight gain, and ration conversion. Data were analysed using ANOVA (0,05) and Duncan's Multiple Range Test. Based on the research results, providing cassava leaves and tofu dregs in the ration had a significant effect on turkey productivity. Providing additional feed with cassava leaves and tofu dregs as much as 5% in the ration produces the best ration consumption, body weight gain, and ration conversion, approximately 5,087.06 g/birds, 2,883.59 g/birds, and 1.80.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the closed-house cage density near the outlet that affected the production of carcass, non-carcass, and abdominal fat of finisher phase broilers and to ascertain the number of closed-house cage density that could produce the ideal amount of carcass, non-carcass, and low abdominal fat. The experiment employed a completely randomized design with four treatments: T0 (10 birds per square meter), T1 (12 birds per square meter), T2 (14 birds per square meter), and T3 (16 birds per square meter). It was replicated five times using different numbers of broilers in each replication depending on the cage density. The observed variables were live weight, carcass weight, percentage of carcass, percentage of non-carcass, and percentage of abdominal fat. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and further tested with Duncan's multiple-range test. The study was carried out for 35 days at Farm H. Noto Miharjo in Adiwarno Village, Buayan District, Kebumen Regency, Central Java. The research results showed that the live weight, carcass weight, and carcass percentage were significantly impacted by closed-house cage density at the area near the outlet, although non-carcass percentage and abdominal fat were not significantly impacted. A closed house cage density of 12 birds per square meter at the area near the outlet can provide an optimal production of carcass, non-carcass, and abdominal fat.
