Abstract

The coastal of Kota Bani in Bengkulu is directly connected to the Indian Ocean, which has strong waves and currents that have the potential for rip currents. Recently, Kota Bani coast has experienced rapid shoreline changes caused by abrasion. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify rip current generating parameters, microzonation mapping of shoreline changes and its relationship with the potential zone of rip current occurrence at Kota Bani Coast, Bengkulu. The methods used in this study were in situ measurement of rip current generating parameters and identification of rip current using drone photos and USGS data to see shoreline changes. Analysis was done descriptively and quantitatively. Based on the research results, the type of breaking wave found at Kota Bani Coast is the plunging type with an irribaren value of 0.3 - 2.3. The potential for rip current occurs more in the west season than in the first transitional season. Rip current speeds of 3 m/s in the west season and 2.2 m/s in the first transitional season. Based on photo data of the coastline from the USGS for 10 years, the abrasion zone experienced a total coastline setback of 149.9 meters and in the non-abrasion zone experienced a total coastline increase (sedimentation) of 113.3 meters, with an average per year.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Bengkulu's tropical climate is very suitable for Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus mosquito breeding. Temperature, humidity and rainfall affect mosquito breeding and dengue virus proliferation in mosquitoes, which in turn had an effect on the dengue infections. Dengue prevention strategy currently focuses on vector control with the Larvae Free Rate (LFR) parameter. This study aimed to determine environmental factors affecting the LFR in 2022 in Bengkulu City, Indonesia. Methods: This research used a cross-sectional study design with time series analysis. Time series was used to analyze and interpret sequential data points collected over  the interval of time. Secondary data about LFR was obtained from the Bengkulu City Health Service, and climate variables from the Climatology Station of the Bengkulu Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency. Data analysis was conducted through simple linear regressions. Results: The average of LFR in Bengkulu City in 2022 was 78.13% (below the national target), with the highest in December (87.85%) and the lowest in May (68.53%). The average temperature, humidity, and rainfall were 26.88°C (moderate), 83.5% (moderate), and 328.96% (high), respectively. The simple linear regression analysis showed that the effect of temperature, humidity, and rainfall was significant to LFR with the respective p-values of 0.010; 0.612, and 0.173).Conclusion: Temperature influenced the LFR by 58,5% but humidity and rainfall have no effect on LFR of Aedes spp. in Bengkulu City in 2022. High temperatures will increase the risk of transmission of dengue virus infection by 3-5%.

Abstract

Many studies showed that teachers' knowledge of instructional strategies is related to another component of pedagogical content knowledge. However, studies on teachers' reasons for choosing their instructional strategies still need to be reported. Three mathematics teachers were investigated using a case study research design. The data were gathered through two semi-structured interviews, pre- and post-observation, as well as observations. Pre-observation interviews explored teacher's knowledge of instructional strategies (KIS) based on their experiences or knowledge. Meanwhile, the post-interview investigated teachers' reasons for choosing instructional strategies based on the observations. Five to ten lesson hours were allocated to observe the teachers' activities in learning on the topic of linear equations and inequalities of one variable. A cross-case analysis was performed to compare the teachers' KIS and their reasons for choosing instructional strategies in teaching practice. The findings showed that lecturing, questioning, and solving problems are the most dominant strategies used by teachers. Only one teacher used group discussion in her teaching activities. The finding also indicates that the knowledge of the student's understanding, curriculum, beliefs, and teaching context are factors that influence teachers in choosing instructional strategies. In addition, the reasons for choosing those strategies are varied.
