Abstract

Sleep is a fundamental determinant of physical, mental, and social well-being. However, inadequate sleep duration, poor sleep quality, and unhealthy sleep habits remain common and often unrecognized public health problems. Limited awareness of sleep health contributes to delayed recognition of sleep disorders and increases the risk of chronic diseases and reduced quality of life. This community service program aimed to improve public awareness of healthy sleep through community-based education during the Car-Free Day event in Padang City, Indonesia. A descriptive community-based health promotion approach was implemented on 5 April 2026 by the Indonesian Society of Sleep Medicine (PERDOKTIN). The program included public education on adequate sleep duration and quality, sleep hygiene counseling, interactive discussions, and a Fun Walk campaign to disseminate key messages on healthy sleep behaviors. Program implementation was documented through field observations and participant engagement. The activities attracted enthusiastic community participation and generated active discussions regarding healthy sleep practices and common sleep disorders. Participants demonstrated increased awareness of the importance of maintaining adequate sleep duration, good sleep quality, and healthy sleep habits. The Fun Walk campaign further enhanced public engagement and increased the visibility of PERDOKTIN's sleep health promotion initiatives. Community-based sleep health promotion conducted during Car-Free Day is a practical and effective approach to improving sleep health literacy. Similar educational initiatives should be expanded to strengthen preventive healthcare and promote healthier communities.

Abstract

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of gambier (Uncaria gambir Roxb.), which is rich in catechin, a major bioactive compound with strong antioxidant activity. Variations in catechin content and antioxidant activity of Indonesian gambier are influenced by geographical origin, plant characteristics, and processing and extraction methods. This study aims to comprehensively review the catechin content and antioxidant activity of Indonesian gambier based on scientific publications from the last decade (2015–2025). A narrative literature review method was applied by collecting relevant articles from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Garuda databases. Selected studies were original research articles reporting quantitative data on catechin levels and/or antioxidant activity of gambier originating from Indonesia. The results indicate that Indonesian gambier, particularly from West Sumatra, exhibits high catechin content and strong antioxidant activity, although considerable variation exists among regions and extraction techniques. Advanced extraction and purification methods, including solvent optimization and ultrasonic-assisted extraction, were shown to enhance catechin concentration and antioxidant capacity. Indonesian gambier has significant potential as a natural antioxidant source, highlighting the need for quality standardization and further development of processing technologies to support value-added utilization and downstream product development.

Abstract

Epistaxis is one of the most common emergencies encountered in otorhinolaryngology–head and neck surgery (ORL-HNS) practice. Although most cases are mild, severe epistaxis, particularly of posterior origin, may lead to serious complications. This literature review aims to comprehensively discuss epistaxis, including its definition, epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, classification, and principles of management based on clinical guidelines. A narrative literature review method was applied by analyzing textbooks, clinical guidelines, and scientific journals related to epistaxis, including Logan Turner’s guidelines, the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) recommendations, and otorhinolaryngology consensus statements. Epistaxis is classified into anterior and posterior types based on the bleeding source, each with distinct pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical implications. Anterior epistaxis is commonly associated with local factors and generally responds well to conservative treatment, whereas posterior epistaxis is often related to systemic conditions and requires more aggressive interventions. Management should follow a stepwise approach in accordance with clinical guidelines. Epistaxis is an important ORL-HNS emergency that requires a systematic diagnostic and therapeutic approach. Understanding the pathophysiology and classification of epistaxis is essential for selecting effective and safe management strategies based on clinical guidelines, thereby reducing complications and recurrence

Abstract

Nutritional problems remain a major challenge in community health development, particularly in rural areas. The Indonesian government has introduced the “Isi Piringku” concept as a visual guideline for balanced nutrition; however, its implementation requires more innovative educational approaches. This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and awareness of balanced nutrition through technology-based “Isi Piringku” education as an effort to prevent nutritional problems in Nagari Padang Gantiang. The community service program was conducted in Nagari Padang Gantiang, Sangir Jujuan District, South Solok Regency, over a 21-day period. Participants included housewives, posyandu cadres, elementary school teachers, and village officials. Educational methods involved technology-based counseling using educational videos, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The program resulted in improved participants’ understanding of the “Isi Piringku” concept, particularly the application of the 3J principles (timing, quantity, and type of food) in complementary feeding practices. Educational videos effectively facilitated comprehension of balanced nutrition messages. In addition, the activity fostered community commitment to developing a nutrition-aware village program through the establishment of a healthy garden to support complementary feeding practices. Technology-based “Isi Piringku” education is effective in enhancing community nutrition knowledge and awareness. The integration of digital media and participatory community activities can support stunting prevention efforts and promote the development of a healthy and nutrition-conscious village
