Abstract

Up to now, Balinese culture and art cannot be separated from the utiliza- tion of old Chinese coins which local people in Bali call pis bolong. The use of those old Chinese coins in traditional ritual in Bali is found even from the infants until the end of that person’s life at cremation ceremony. The cremation ceremony uses the Chinese old coins to be burned with the deceased and to be sent with the ash from the burned deceased into the sea. This practice makes the number of old Chinese coins decrease meanwhile the demand of using the coins increase. The condition is worsened by the practice of using old Chinese coins as souvenirs. The local metal craftsmen have tried to solve the scarcity of the coins by producing a local-made Chinese coins and making them as similar as the original Chinese coins. However, due to the lack of local craftsmen’s aesthetics assessment visually and non-visually on old Chinese coins, their physical appearances were very much different from its original Chinese coins. Therefore, this paper presents the result of the observation of aesthetics  assessment  visually and non-visually on old Chinese coins that can be used as guidance to produce local-made old Chinese coins as similar as its original.

Abstract

This article is intended to inform a real description related to the religious expression and activity of engineering student in Japan. Information is collected by direct interaction with the students, and also by visiting religious sites around the campus. Visit to the student apartments is also carried out to obtain information regarding religious activity that is held in daily life. It is found from the observation that religious activities such as reading a holy book and praying is not carried out anymore. Praying is done three times a year, namely at Bon ceremony, which is ceremony to respect the return ancestor to the earth from heaven, at Higan ceremony that is ceremony to respect the ancestor, and also new year praying. It is found surprisingly, something unique related to the religion that is many students have and bring amulet (o-mamori) that is obtained from the Shinto shrine or Buddhist temple. It is also popular to take a written oracle that tells the fortune in the Buddhist Temple or Shinto Shrine. This written oracle in Japan is called with o-mikuji. The belief that is not related to the religion but still popular is to respect the mountain. Mountain climbing is a religious activity that often held by the engineering student

Abstract

Activated carbon has a high adsorption capacity due to its high porosity. The pore structure of activated carbon is largely affected by the chemical composition of the raw material and the parameters of the manufacturing process. This article aims to determine the pore structure of activated carbon from brewed coffee. The manufacture of activated carbon is carried out in one step of carbonization and activation in the same reactor and furnace. The sample was carbonized by heating to a temperature of 650 ○C, then immediately activated at that temperature by flowing nitrogen with 30, 60, and 90 minutes variations. The resulting activated carbons are marked as K-A30, K-A60, and K-A90 for activation holding times of 30, 60, and 90 minutes, respectively. Then the activated carbon was characterized to determine their proximate composition, morphology, and surface pore structure. The results showed that activated carbon under an activation holding time of 60 minutes (K-A60) had the highest fixed carbon content of 71.67%. Meanwhile, generally, the activated carbon K-A30 has the best pore structure due to it having the highest pore surface area (121.765 m2/g), pore-volume (0.058 cc/g), and nitrogen adsorption capacity (37.692 cc/g) with an average pore diameter of 1.915 nm. This research is urgent because it can convert brewed coffee grounds into activated carbon with such pore structure characteristics and potently applied to various adsorption applications.

Abstract

Quality of biogas in various anaerobic digester installations for processing organic waste is not optimal, especially in developing countries where there is not much knowledge about anaerobic processing. The methane content in biogas is usually found to be low so it is not possible to use it as engine fuel. Biogas purification will be a solution to reduce impurity gases in biogas such as CO2, H2S, and H2O so that it is suitable for use as engine fuel. In some previous studies, using biogas as engine fuel gets high fuel consumption (wasteful). Another solution is suggested with biogas enriched with other fuels (dual fuels). This study introduces a simple technique for the biogas enrichment method using methanol. Methanol is a type of alcohol where methanol is a renewable fuel. The methanol used has a purity of 97% which is already on the market. The biogas used in this study contains 52% vol of methane. A generator set with a 2 stroke engine which has a capacity of 63cc with a compression of 10 bar was prepared for this research to allow it to be operated using dual fuels biogas enriched with methanol. The 2 stroke engine generator works well using biogas fuel enriched with methanol. The fuel consumption of a 2-stroke engine generator set using biogas enriched with methanol is known to get better results when compared to only biogas. Exhaust emissions were found to be better than using only biogas for the same engine.

Abstract

The Pitik Jaya Women Farmers Group (KWT) is a business group located in Baluk village which is classified as a home business or home industry. This business group produces several types of products including; shredded eggs, flavored salted peanuts and others. In running its business, KWT faces a number of problems, especially for the production of the flavored salted peanuts. This problem is caused by the process of roasting peanuts using a rolling machine which is relatively simple with a limited capacity made from steel plates and is easily corroded and the spices are still stirred manually so it is uneven. Another problem is related to the high cost of LPG fuel used to heat the roaster. Based on this situation and to overcome these problems, the community service team designed and manufactured a roasting machine with biogas fuel. The field service activity (KWT Pitik Jaya) was carried out on August 22, 2021 in the form of an introduction and demonstration of a biogas-fired roasting machine. Next, on August 29, 2021, a safety demonstration was held and the official handover of the machine was attended by members of the Pitik Jaya KWT, the dedication team, Engineering students from the Udayana University Mechanical Engineering Study Program and Baluk village officials. The use of this biogas-fired roasting machine plays a very important role in increasing the production of flavored salted peanuts which reaches 320% or more than three times, as well as fuel cost efficiency reaching 90%, because it no longer uses LPG. Keywords : roasting machine, salted peanuts, biogas, increased production.

Abstract

Livestock activities carried out by the Baluk village community with a minimum number of livestock in each family of 2 cows and pigs have the potential to develop new and renewable energy systems, in this case household-scale biogas energy. Thus each household can produce energy for their daily needs. Optimization and cost efficiency with the introduction and application of biogas/portable biogas digester technology by utilizing cow dung as a daily energy source is the focus of this service. A portable anaerobic digester was prepared in this work as a solution. Its capacity is around 500 liters making it suitable for household scale livestock manure processing. The material used for the digester is stainless steel 304. The digester is equipped with an agitator to optimize biogas production. Cow dung slurry (50% cow dung + 50% water) is used to feed the digester. There are 2 variations of the slurry loading speed carried out in this work, namely 5 liters/day slurry and 10 liters/day slurry. The biogas production rate is around 51.7 liters of biogas/day if filled with 5 liters/day of slurry. The biogas production rate was found to increase significantly to 82 liters of biogas/day if filled with 10 liters/day of slurry. So to overcome community problems and in carrying out solutions to village problems, several methods are used, including: counseling methods, mentoring methods, mutual cooperation methods, methods of applying appropriate technology, and pilot methods. The activities were carried out on August 23 2020 and September 18 2020. Keywords : Biogas, digester portable, optimation, 500 liter

Abstract

Biogas produced from cow dung at the Tulus Nadi Livestock Farmer Group in Banjar Gambih, Buahan Village, Payangan District, has been used as cooking fuel. However, the high sulfuric acid (H2S) content of biogas can reduce fuel quality and shorten the life of the biogas stove because H2S causes the components of the biogas stove to rust. This service aims to reduce the H2S content of biogas through the adsorption method, which employs activated carbon as an adsorbent. The service includes practice and instruction in desulfurizer installation, maintenance, and activated carbon regeneration. The test results show that the breeder understands and can use the desulfurizer tool effectively. The desulfurizer can reduce the H2S content to 95.9%, allowing the biogas produced to be used optimally for daily cooking purposes. Keywords: Biogas, adsorption, activated carbon, livestock waste
