Abstract

Excess phosphate in natural water can cause algae grow rapidly, to the extent causing many fish deaths that led to the extinction of certain species. Therefore, an analysis or periodic observations of phosphate levels in the water is needed. The commonly used method is diffusive gradient in thin films (DGT) technique. The DGT technique is based on the ability of analyte to diffuse through a gel, which have a value named diffusion coefficient. This research was conducted in order to study the effect of different storage solution to the phosphate diffusion coefficient through polyacrylamide and agarose gels. Initial research performed with making the polyacrylamide and agarose gels. To observe the effect of different storage solutions, the gels partly stored in distilled water gel while the others are stored in a NaCl solution of 0.01 M. Phosphate diffusion coefficient was determined using Fick's Law after analyze the phosphate concentration using UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The results showed that phosphate diffusion coefficient was highest when polyacrylamide and agarose gels stored in NaCl solution of 0.01 M.

Abstract

A tube type mini electrode has been made to detect paracetamol levels in herbal medicine, the electrode is made of a glass tube with a diameter of 0.7 cm, a length of 3 cm. As the membrane is a mixture of chitosan, activated carbon from rice husk, and cetyl trimethyl ammonium (CTA)-paracetamol. The internal solution is a standard solution of 0.01 M paracetamol in a solution of phosphoric acid pH 2. The average sensitivity of the paracetamol sensor is (22.60 ± 0.01) mV/decade in a linear concentration range of 10-6 – 5x10-3 M, with an average recovery of (90.6 ± 0.5) %. Paracetamol sensor electrodes can be applied to samples of herbal medicine on the market, with an average error of (9.4 ± 0.1) %.

Abstract

As oil consumption increases from year to year, efforts need to be made to increase energy reserves by developing new renewable energy. One way to develop energy sources is by the synthesis Fischer Tropsch (FT). FT is a synthetic gas conversion reaction (mixture of CO and H2) into a long chain hydrocarbon mixture. The FT reaction requires a catalyst called the FT catalyst. So far, many studies that examine the effectiveness of catalysts in converting synthesis gas into long chain hydrocarbons, but rarely information about the composition of the phases that exist on the surface of the catalyst. To study about it, we synthesized FT catalysts at various variations of calcination temperature. Fe(NO3)3 as a precursor and Cu(NO3)2 as promoter (20:1) used in this study. The calcination temperature used are 300, 500, and 700°C. Characterization and analysis of catalysts were formed with XRD and SEM-EDX. Calcined catalysts were activated using CO2 and H2 gas and then re-characterized with XRD and SEM-EDX. Calcination results the formation of an iron oxide phase, while activation results the formation of iron carbide and zero Fe phases.

Abstract

Ni(II) with mixed ligand of terephthalate-pyrazine (NiTP) metal complex can form metal-organic framework (MOF) material that offer many potential applications, such as adsorbent and/or photocatalyst for dye-based wastewater treatment. Production of the NiTP by hydrothermal method in a larger scale may economically unfavorable due to it requires high temperature and long reaction time. Green synthesis of NiTP by hydrothermal method using lower temperature and shorter reaction time was investigated in this study. The synthesis was done in Ni(II):T:P mol ratio of 1:1:4 at 150 ᵒC for 10 hours. The NiTP complex was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and powder-XRD. Crystallinity degree, thermal stability, band gap energy, and pore volume of the NiTP complex were compared to that of Ni(II)-terephthalate (NiT) complex, which was also made using the same condition, to study the effect of pyrazine addition on the properties of the NiTP. This study finds that the green microcrystalline NiTP complex was successfully obtained from mild reaction condition in good yield and identical to known MOF compound of [Ni(μ3-ter)(μ2-pyr)]n.(ter = terephthalate; pyr = pyrazine). Although the synthesized NiTP complex has lower crystallinity degree compared to the NiT complex, but it has better thermal stability, lower band gap energy, and bigger pore volume; therefore, it is possible to be further developed as adsorbent and/or photocatalyst for wastewater treatment.

Abstract

We have studied the fabrication of zinc sulphophthalocyanine (ZnPcSn) thin film as prototype of ozone detector. The aim of this research is to find the relation between the electrical resistance of ZnPcSn thin film and the ZnPcSn suspension concentration. The thin film of ZnPcSn was deposited on Printed Circuit Board (PCB) substrate by using spin coating method, then, annealed at temperature of 100 oC. The resistance of ZnPcSn thin film was measured as it was exposed with ozone, synthesized from fresh air, for 60 min continuously. The electrical measurement was conducted twice for each point of data. The result of this research shows that the electrical resistance of ZnPcSn thin film decreases during the ozone exposure, and, it can be concluded that as the concentration of ZnPcSn suspension concentration increase, more amount of ozone can be adsorbed by thin film.
