Abstract

Indonesia higher education learning system is currently less responsive to the industrial jobdynamics. As a result, there is a mismatch between graduates’ skill with the competenciesrequired by industry. Higher education has prepared nearly one million students to becometeachers, but the government has no plans to increase the number of public servant teachers.This policy makes most of graduates are unemployed. Companies in non-education andmanufacturing services have started complaining about the difficulty of finding workerslike engineers to fill in skilled positions. The rapid changing of industrial job dynamicsmake learning in higher education institution should move as rapidly as possible with theindustry. Therefore, it is necessary to develop collaboration between higher educationinstitution and industry. This paper proposed an innovation to learn and develop knowledgefrom industry through lecturer internship program. After attending internship program inthe industry, lecturers are expected to provide more real working experience to the students.The lecturer internship program in the industry will be focused on product research anddevelopment collaboration. In this paper will be presented a theoretical study about: (1)thebenefits; (2)factors that can affect; or (3)hinder the success of lecturer internship program inthe industry.Keywords: [lecturer, internship, program, industry, university

Abstract

Desire to apply knowledge gained in school is the characteristic of high school students. These characteristic actually has been accommodated into 2013 curriculum. However, low interest of high school students to study chemistry was still found. Various learning methods have been developed to improve learning interest in the classroom. The effort to increase students' interest in chemistry can also be done outside the classroom. In this paper will be presented a theoretical study of joyful learning real world chemistry through VAKSIN strategy during school break. The strategy will be given in two ways, through science camps or excursion. Materials to be provided during the science camp are making green chemistry paint, exploration of cat litters, and simulations of waste water purification. Excursion can go into two places, the industry or university. Abstract

Coffee consumption over the past four years has continued to increase the amount of used coffee grounds. Usually, the used coffee grounds are simply thrown away. In fact, it can still be used as other materials that are more efficient and environmentally friendly, such as activated carbon. Activated carbon can be utilized as an adsorbent to adsorb compounds that are carcinogenic and potentially last a long time in the environment, such as phenols. Phenol decomposition through chemical can be carried out by Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) which utilize hydroxyl radicals. This method used a catalyst such as iron(III) oxide under ultraviolet light. Phenol decomposition can also be carried out using ultrasound. This study presents the performance of the combination of activated carbon-catalyst with ultrasound in phenol decomposition. The results showed that the mass of the composite influenced the 0.1 M phenol degradation by the activated carbon–iron(III) oxide assisted with ultraviolet light, ultrasound, and 0.01 M hydrogen peroxide. for 45 minutes. The best degradation of phenol was obtained when 0.5 g adsorbent was applied with the adsorption capacity of phenol was 704.37 mg/g. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide also affects the decomposition of phenol in solution. From the variation of the hydrogen peroxide solution used (0.01; 0.02; and 0.03 M), the optimal concentration in degrading phenol was 0.01 M with the adsorption capacity of phenol was 393.70 mg/g.

Abstract

Excess phosphate in natural water can cause algae grow rapidly, to the extent causing many fish deaths that led to the extinction of certain species. Therefore, an analysis or periodic observations of phosphate levels in the water is needed. The commonly used method is diffusive gradient in thin films (DGT) technique. The DGT technique is based on the ability of analyte to diffuse through a gel, which have a value named diffusion coefficient. This research was conducted in order to study the effect of different storage solution to the phosphate diffusion coefficient through polyacrylamide and agarose gels. Initial research performed with making the polyacrylamide and agarose gels. To observe the effect of different storage solutions, the gels partly stored in distilled water gel while the others are stored in a NaCl solution of 0.01 M. Phosphate diffusion coefficient was determined using Fick's Law after analyze the phosphate concentration using UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The results showed that phosphate diffusion coefficient was highest when polyacrylamide and agarose gels stored in NaCl solution of 0.01 M.

Abstract

The PIM-passive sampler is a passive sampler using PIM as a diffusion layer. This research aimed to optimize the concentration of PIM plasticizer and the concentration of phosphate ions in bulk solution to produce a PIM-passive sampler for phosphate measurement with high accuracy. In this study, a passive sampler was made of a 15 ml glass bottle containing 0.2 M H2SO4 solution as the receiving phase and PIM as a diffusion membrane. PIM was prepared by mixing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as the base membrane, Aliquat 336-Cl as a carrier, and 1-decanol as a plasticizer. Sampling was done by immersing the passive sampler in the bulk phase solution for three hours. The phosphate concentrations in bulk and receiving phases were determined regularly every 30 minutes using the visible spectrophotometric method at a wavelength of 690 nm. The results showed that the optimum concentration of 1-decanol for PIM was 15% w/w. The higher the plasticiser concentration, the PIM was oily, thus preventing the analyte from contacting the extractant. The range of phosphate ion concentrations in the sample that the PIM-passive sampler could detect was 0.1-1.3 mg P/L. The calibration curve for phosphate measurement was CTWA = 1.0664. Cs – 0.0088 with a correlation coefficient (R2) was 0.9998. This shows that the PIM-passive sampler can be used for the measurement of phosphate ions with high accuracy.

Abstract

Biopolimer diketahui jumlahnya melimpah dan memiliki toksisitas rendah. Hal tersebut sesuai dengan kebutuhan adsorben saat ini, yaitu murah, ramah lingkungan, dan efisiensi tinggi. Biopolimer berbasis polisakarida seperti kitosan potensial untuk dijadikan adsorben karena karakteristik fisiko-kimianya masih dapat terus dieksplorasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan artikel ini adalah literature review yang dilakukan dengan cara mengumpulkan sumber data yaitu jurnal ilmiah 10 tahun terakhir yang terkait dengan pemanfaatan kitosan untuk pemisahan analit secara simultan. Berdasarkan literature review yang telah dilakukan, upaya peningkatan ketahanan dan adsorpsi kitosan dilakukan dengan cara menambahkan nanopartikel, partikel magnetik, bahan alam anorganik, atau material lain. Komposit kitosan yang digunakan untuk pemisahan kation Pb(II) dan Cd(II) secara simultan pada sistem multikomponen menunjukkan ion lain yang berada pada sistem biner, tersier, maupun kuartener menurunkan kapasitas adsorpsi. Adsorpsi pada sistem multikomponen lebih banyak bersifat antagonis dibanding non-interaksi dan sinergi. Selektivitas kitosan termodifikasi untuk ion Pb(II) dan Cd(II) dalam sistem multikomponen bergantung pada penggunaan material untuk modifikasi kitosan dan karakteristik ion logam seperti jari-jari dan elektronegativitas. Oleh sebab jumlah kitosan yang melimpah dan meningkatnya volume limbah cair industri yang mengandung logam berat, kitosan termodifikasi untuk adsorpsi ion logam multikomponen potensial dikembangkan di Indonesia.

Abstract

Keterbatasan alat dan bahan praktikum merupakan permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh guru kimia di SMK. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kreativitas guru SMK dalam mengatasi masalah tersebut. Guru SMK diberikan pembinaan praktikum pengenalan analisis kualitatif skala mikro. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dalam beberapa tahap, yaitu tahap persiapan, tahap pelaksanaan, dan tahap evaluasi. Tahap persiapan terdiri atas penyusunan diktat praktikum, persiapan alat dan bahan percobaan, pembuatan video praktik, serta pembuatan kuesioner. Tahap pelaksanaan berupa praktikum analisis kualitatif skala mikro dengan empat topik. Tahap evaluasi dilakukan dengan cara menilai tugas presentasi dan mengolah kuesioner berisi tanggapan peserta. Analisis data tersebut dilakukan secara deskriptif. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilaksanakan pada tanggal 27 Juni 2022 hingga 20 Agustus 2022. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peserta dapat mendemonstrasikan praktikum pengenalan analisis kualitatif skala mikro dan kegiatan telah berlangsung dengan baik. Setelah mengikuti kegiatan ini, peserta dapat mengembangkan materi praktikum skala mikro sesuai kondisi di sekolah masing-masing sehingga keterbatasan alat dan bahan dapat diatasi.Chemistry teachers in vocational high schools face challenges due to practicum equipment and chemical limitations. The objective of this community service is to increase the creativity of vocational high school teachers in addressing this issue. Participants have enrolled in a practicum on microscale qualitative analysis. Preparation, implementation, and evaluation were the three stages of the activity. Making a practicum module, getting chemicals and equipment ready for experiments, filming practical videos, and creating questionnaires were all part of the preparation process. The implementation step was delivered as a four-topic microscale qualitative analysis practicum. The evaluation step was completed by evaluating the presentation tasks and descriptively analyzing the participants' questionnaire responses. The community service was performed between June 27th and August 20th, 2022. The results showed that participants could demonstrate microscale qualitative analysis. The community service was performed well. Following the community service, participants can create micro-scale practicum material based on their schools' conditions, overcoming equipment and materials limitations.

Abstract

Menguatnya industri halal di Indonesia berimplikasi positif pada peningkatan tingkat perekonomian masyarakat. Sertifikasi halal selain sebagai bentuk perlindungan terhadap jaminan kehalalan produk, juga memberikan nilai tambah yang berimplikasi positif terhadap volume produksi dan penjualan. Sertifikasi halal adalah suatu proses untuk memperoleh sertifikat halal melalui beberapa tahap pemeriksaan untuk membuktikan bahwa bahan, proses produksi, dan sistem jaminan halal dapat memenuhi standar Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah pendampingan pendaftaran Nomor Induk Berusaha (NIB) bagi Usaha Mikro dan Kecil (UMK); pendampingan tentang peraturan jaminan produk halal bagi industri makanan dan minuman UMK; serta pendampingan pengajuan sertifikasi halal bagi UMK. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan yaitu melalui sosialisasi, pendampingan pengisian persyaratan, dan pengajuan sertifikasi produk halal. Hasil kegiatan adalah pemahaman pelaku usaha tentang jaminan produk halal bagi pelaku UMK di sektor pangan, pendaftaran sertifikasi halal bagi pelaku usaha, dan sertifikat halal bagi UMK yang telah turun sebanyak 10 sertifikat halal.
