Abstract

Breast preparation for breastfeeding begins during pregnancy, which is characterized by the breasts becoming larger along with the increase in the number and size of the alveoli glands as a result of increasing levels of the hormone estrogen. This occurs until a baby has been breastfed for a few days when actual milk production begins. In the first few days the breasts secrete colostrum which is very important for the baby's health. Breasts produce breast milk starting when the baby begins to suckle on the nipple and the resulting physical stimulation causes impulses in the nerve endings which are then sent to the hypothalamus in the brain which in turn tells the pituitary gland in the brain to produce the hormones oxytocin and prolactin (Anik, 2016). This study aims to analyze the relationship between oxytocin massage and breast milk production in postpartum mothers at Ibu Kartini Hospital, West Kisaran, Asahan Regency in 2023. This research is correlational with a cross sectional approach and bivariate data analysis is data analysis used in research to determine the relationship or influence of variables. independent (independent) with a dependent (dependent) variable using Chi Square analysis with a significant p-value (0.05) (Hardani, 2020) Based on the research results. Based on the results of statistical tests using Chi-Square, it was obtained with a p value of 0.001 that the breast milk output of postpartum mothers before oxytocin massage was mostly not enough breast milk. Postpartum mothers' breast milk output after massage is mostly breast milk This means that there is an influence of oxytocin massage on breast milk production in postpartum mothers at Ibu Kartini Hospital, West Kisaran, Asahan Regency in 2023

Abstract

Abstract

Essential care in newborns is an important intervention to prevent complications and lower neonatal mortality. This study aims to analyze the implementation of essential care procedures for newborns at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan City in 2025, including skin contact measures, umbilical cord care, infant bathing, vitamin K, eye ointment, and Hepatitis B (HB-0) immunization. : The study used a cross sectional design with a quantitative approach and involved 76 samples taken using the Slovin technique from a total population of 329 infants. Data were collected through observation, document analysis, and questionnaires on health workers, then analyzed univariately. The results showed that all essential care measures had been carried out with 100% coverage, except for HB-0 immunization which was only given to 90.8% of infants due to several clinical factors such as low birth weight. The implementation of essential care in general is in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and WHO guidelines. There is a need to increase consistency in the administration of HB-0 immunization as well as continuous education for health workers and parents to improve the quality of neonatal services.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is the practice of providing only breast milk without any additional food or drink for the first six months of an infant’s life. The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia has not yet reached the target, partly due to the low level of knowledge and compliance among breastfeeding mothers. One effort to improve this condition is through health education using leaflet media. This study aimed to determine the effect of leaflet media on the knowledge and compliance of breastfeeding mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding at Ulumahuam Public Health Center, South Labuhan Batu Regency, in 2025. Methods: This research used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population consisted of 72 breastfeeding mothers, with a sample of 42 respondents selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the paired t-test and chi-square test. Results: The results showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge after they were given education through leaflet media, with a p-value = 0.000 (<0.05). In addition, there was a significant effect of leaflet media on mothers' compliance in providing exclusive breastfeeding, with a p-value = 0.002 (<0.05). This indicates that leaflet media is effective in improving knowledge and compliance among breastfeeding mothers. Conclusion: Leaflet media has a significant effect on increasing the knowledge and compliance of mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding. It is recommended that health workers utilize leaflet media as an educational tool in promoting exclusive breastfeeding programs.
