Abstract

This study aimed to analyze complementary food fulfillment during disaster situations in Indonesia since it frequently experiences natural disasters and young children face unique challenges related to their feeding needs in disaster situations. This qualitative case study based on the Mount Merapi eruption and Sumedang landslide in 2021 collected data using observations, forum group discussions, and in-depth interviews; then, a thematic analysis was conducted. This study involved 17 participants, including Non-governmental Organizations (NGO) activists, health workers, residents involved in making complementary foods, and primary caregivers of children aged 6–24 months. This study found that there were five themes generated from the data analysis; 1) the donation of home-based complementary foods based on local wisdom, 2) inadequate complementary feeding, 3) limited resources to manage the complementary feeding, 4) clean versus dirty conditions, and 5) mothers’ endeavour in complementary feeding practices. This study concluded that the complementary feeding practices during a disaster in Indonesia were supported by NGOs, residents, and nearby healthcare workers and thus represent a form of mutual cooperation among the Indonesian people.

Abstract

Breastfeeding is still an obstacle for some mothers who have sick neonates who are receiving treatment at the hospital. Breastfeeding self-efficacy is related to the duration of breastfeeding which has an impact on the mother's success in breastfeeding at least exclusively. The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to breastfeeding self-efficacy in mothers of sick neonatal care room. This study used a cross-sectional design, 88 respondents were recruited using a consecutive sampling method, using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity first, namely the Breastfeeding self-efficacy scale short form (BSE-SF) and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) questionnaires, husband's support, family support, and friend support. The results of the Chi square analysis showed that there was no relationship between breastfeeding self-efficacy in mothers with maternal age, mother's education, family income, experience of breastfeeding mothers, experiences of others breastfeeding their babies, health education support, husband support, family support, and friend support with p value > 0.05, but it was found that stress factors were associated with breastfeeding self-efficacy in mothers with sick neonates (p=<0.01). Stress is a factor associated with breastfeeding self-efficacy in mothers with sick neonates.

Abstract

Adolescent with chronic illness such as thalassemia can increase the risk of behavioral changes. The purpose of this study is to identify the risk of behavioral changes in adolescents with thalassemia such as anxiety, social problem and attention deficits. This study used cross sectional. Respondent consist of 43 adolescent (12-18 years old) and their parents to filled questionnaire about the related factors, anxiety, social problem, and attention deficits in thalassemia. The results shown that male adolescent have a risk to experience anxiety problem (OR 2,5), social problem (OR 1,264), and attention deficits (OR 1,185). Adolescents with Jawa and the other ethnic have a risk to experience anxiety problem (OR 0,001), social problem (0,001 and 0,365), and attention deficits (1,338 and 0,501). Another factor such as multitranfusion more than 5 years have a risk to experience anxiety problem (OR 0,001), low parent’s support with social problem (0,042), and low or middle of mother education increase attention deficits risk until 3,763 and 1,338. Nurses responsible to solve behavioral problem with current nursing intervention to prevent low quality of live in adult with thalassemia

Abstract

Pain is a discomfort sensational that felt by hospitalized neonates. The study use case study design of four babies who hospitalized in perinatology unit in RSAB Harapan Kita and Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital. The purpose of this case study is to analyze the fulfill comfort of neonates with NNS and extremities massage based on Levine Conservation Model application. The results is decrease neonates pain score with PIPP (Premature Infant Pain Profile), decrease in oxygen saturation changes, and heart rate changes in infants with invasive procedures. Although the fourth baby, no changes in pain scores with massage intervention extremities. Application of Levine Conservation Model in infants acute pain support for energy conservation, structural integrity, personal integrity, and social integrity. The study of pain management for neonates need to always be developed for support neonatal growth and development optimally.

Abstract

Introduction: Premature infants often experience delays in developing oral feeding skills essential for their growth. This may be due to immature motor development and physiological instability. Inconsistent definitions of feeding cues can also affect the quality of care provided. Therefore, a concept analysis of feeding cues in premature infants is necessary to clarify definition and improve the accuracy of care to meet their needs. This study aimed to clarify the concept of feeding cues in premature infants. Methods: The Walker and Avant concept analysis method was used. A literature search was also conducted from five databases: PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google Scholar for 2000 and later. Results: The literature search obtained 20 articles on feeding cues from various disciplines. Eight attributes were developed from the concept analysis, including (1) behavioral and physiological signs, (2) readiness to feed, (3) transition and awareness ability, (4) hand and mouth movements, (5) effective sucking and swallowing, (6) self-regulation, (7) behavioural changes, and (8) facial expression. Antecedents to feeding cues include infant physiology, infant’s level of consciousness changes, infant motor and reflex development, respiratory stability and health status, and availability of feeding resources. Consequences include timely and appropriate feeding according to infant’s needs, infant’s self-regulation, infant’s comfort and stability, development of a positive caregiver-infant relationship, and balance of energy intake and growths. Conclusion: The concept analysis provides eight comprehensive attributes and their antecedents and consequences, emphasising the importance of understanding feeding cues in premature infants. This understanding can guide nursing care, enhance early feeding interventions, and support the growth and development of premature infants to enhance the quality of nursing care in this group. Keywords: concept analysis; feeding cues; premature infants
