Abstract

Stigma causes PLWHA to experience obstacles in the treatment and care process because people living with stigmatized health conditions are confined to live in the same society, but are still moved and experience their own stigma. Stigma has two understanding points of view, namely community stigma and self-stigma. The stigma of society towards PLWHA occurs at various levels, starting from the family, community, institutional environment, and the mass media. Self stigma (self stigma) is a crisis from people who are stigmatized to apply the stigma to themselves. The general objective is to provide an overview of various cases of stigma against PLWHA from a community perspective and self-stigma. Analysis of this paper is carried out through literature review by examining written sources such as scientific journals, reference books, literature, encyclopedias, scientific essays, and other reliable sources either in written form or in relevant digital formats without going directly to the field. This paper is expected to provide benefits and input, as well as a consideration for decision makers in order to review and determine various policies related to the handling of stigma against PLWHA

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The development of the coffee shop industry in Padang City has positioned the barista profession as part of the modern service sector that emphasizes social interaction, hospitality, and professional performance in public spaces. This study aims to analyze the work activity patterns of baristas and to examine how gender expression is constructed, performed, and negotiated in everyday work practices within coffee shops in Padang City. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method involving six baristas working in several coffee shops in Padang City. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity. The findings reveal that baristas’ work activities are not limited to the technical aspects of coffee preparation, but also involve emotional management, interpersonal communication, self-presentation, and hospitality practices in interactions with customers. Gender expression is manifested through communication styles, body gestures, task distribution, and the ways baristas present their professional identities within service spaces. This study finds that coffee shops function as social arenas where masculinity and femininity are practiced, negotiated, and performatively displayed through everyday work activities. Therefore, the barista profession can be understood as a cultural practice that reflects the relationship between labor, service, and gender construction in contemporary urban society.

Abstract

This research is based on the economic situation faced by fishing communities, whose income is unstable due to seasonal influences, weather fluctuations, ocean currents, and the number of fish caught. This situation has prompted fishing families to develop various strategies to maintain and improve their economic situation. This study aims to analyze strategies to improve the economic situation of fishermen families in the tourist area of Gandoriahh Beach, Pariaman. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through field observations, in-depth interviews, documents, and field notes. The research sample consisted of two fishermen and the wife of one of them, who is also a trader in the Gandoriahh Beach tourist area. The results of the study showed that fisher families implemented various economic strategies, including diversifying sources of income through side jobs, involving family members in economic activities, and managing finances through savings. In addition, the existence of the Gandoriah Beach tourist area has provided new economic opportunities for coastal communities through trade and tourism services. However, these economic benefits are not evenly distributed due to the decline in the number of visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These results show that fishing communities have a dynamic ability to adapt to economic instability in coastal areas.

Abstract

Research involving incarcerated youth in Indonesia requires careful attention to both ethical and methodological considerations due to the dual vulnerabilities of this population: as minors and detainees within the correctional system. This qualitative study explores the ethical challenges faced by researchers in designing, collecting, and presenting data, with a focus on empowering and involving incarcerated youth throughout the research process. The study uses an instrumental case study within an action research design, incorporating reflective practices and collaboration with both the youth participants and correctional staff. Purposive sampling was employed to select participants from a Juvenile Correctional Facility (LPKA) in West Sumatra, Indonesia, including male youths (n=74) aged 14–19 and relevant stakeholders such as correctional officers. This participatory approach allowed youth to be actively engaged in all stages of the research, from the design to the data collection and analysis. The article highlights the need of research frameworks such as emancipatory pedagogy, empowerment theory, the transformative paradigm, and Positive Youth Development (PYD) to guide the research process, ensuring that ethical relationships are maintained and power imbalances are minimized. The findings emphasize the importance of social justice, reflexivity, and collaboration in research with vulnerable populations. Also, the findings show the needs of incarcerated youth take a central position when researching within juvenile correctional facilities. This paper contributes to the discourse on ethical research with incarcerated youth in Indonesia and advocates for justice-oriented methodologies that foster social change while respecting participants' autonomy and dignity. In doing so, research becomes not only a means of generating knowledge but also a catalyst for meaningful social change.
