Abstract

Plan to implement face-to-face learning at primary schools in the era of Covid-19 pandemic may potentially increase the risk of Covid-19 infection in the teachers, school staff and students. The aim of this community service program was to increase the knowledge and skill of teachers and school staff about health protocols to prevent Covid-19 infection during face-to face learning activities at schools. This program was held at Tunas Harapan Jaya Primary School, with 17 participants comprising teachers and school staffs. The community service was begun with pre-test, followed by a workshop on health protocols to prevent Covid-19 infection, training on 6 steps of hand washing technique, post-test and giving some contributions in the form of automatic thermometer and hand sanitizer and scale apparatus for screening of student`s nutritional status. We also accompanied the teachers and staff to formulate a written procedure about health protocols in school for 1 month. The result of our program showed that there was an 15,3% increase in the participant`s knowledge based on pre-test and post-test scores. All of the participants could demonstrate the correct hand washing technique excellently. We hope that all of the participants could educate another school staff as well as the students to always remember and practice health protocols to prevent transmission of Covid-19 infection in the school. Abstract

Tobacco dependence in schizophrenia patients is a problem that got more concern, withfew treatment options. Peoples with schizophrenia have a prevalence rate of cigarettesmoking two until four times higher than the general population. Consequently, patientsalso have a lower smoking quit rate than the general population. Tobacco dependence inthis population may complicate symptoms and also has adverse physiological effects onpatients. Besides that, patients with schizophrenia tend to smoke more heavily thansmokers in general population. This can increased smoking-related morbidity andmortality and impose a significant financial burden on patients. Recent studiesdemonstrated that patients with schizophrenia smoke before the onset of the illness andalso start smoking earlier than the average population. Patients become psychotic earlierthan patients who do not smoke, and require higher dose of anti-psychotic medications.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Insecticides are used to reduce the number of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, a vector of the dengue virus that causes dengue hemorrhagic fever in Indonesia, including in Bali. However, in recent years, the resistance of the Ae. aegypti mosquito to insecticides has been reported in Bali. In addition, Ae. aegypti is also identified to be resistant to several types of insecticides whose resistance mechanism is not yet clear. Several studies have stated that the KDR genes are one of the causes of resistance to pyrethroid insecticides. Therefore, a study was conducted to determine the frequency of the KDR genes in the Ae. aegypti population in Denpasar, Bali which had been previously shown resistance to permethrin (type of pyrethroid). Forty-three females Ae. aegypti specimens from bioassay testing using permethrin stored in tubes containing 100% ethanol were used in this study. Each mosquito is put in a different tube. The mosquito DNA was then extracted. Three KDR genes, V1016G, V410L, and F1534C, were analyzed using the quantitative-PCR melt curve method at the Biomolecular Laboratory, FKIK Unwar. In this study, the mutation frequency of 1016G was 98%, 410L was 50%, and 1534C was 3.4%. The 410L mutant gene was shared by all specimens, although only in one allele (heterozygous). Of the 43 specimens, 39 had homozygous mutant V1016G, heterozygous V410L, and wild typehomozygous F1534C. It indicated that the frequency of the 1016G and 410L mutant genes is quite high, while the 1534C gene is low. The combination of the KDR 1016G and 410L genes was the most dominant found in permethrin-resistant Ae. aegypti specimens. Therefore, it is assumed that these two KDR genes play a role in forming permethrin resistance in Ae. aegypti.

Abstract

Empirical Use of Antibiotics in Pneumonia PatientsBackground: antibiotic as definitive therapy for pneumonia must be given within 8 hours, but on the other hand, to identify the cause of pneumonia will take several days so antibiotic are often given empirically. This will lead into the inaccuracy of choosing antibiotic for pneumonia patients. Inappropriate use of antibiotic can result in less effective treatment, decreased drug safety, increased resistance, and treatment costs. This analytical study of the use of antibiotics is important in relation to evaluating the use of antibiotic for pneumonia in medical practice. Objectives: :  this study was to analyze and evaluate the patterns of antibiotic use in pneumonia patients, especially monotherapy and polytherapy antibiotics. Methods: the research location was in Wangaya Hospital, Denpasar City. Data collection was carried out retrospectively based on medical record data of pneumonia patients that hospitalized in 2017-2018. Patients diagnosed as pneumonia with code ICD-10 J.18, aged over 17 years, and receiving antibiotic therapy were included in the study. Results: we found the most widely used antibiotic were the combination of cefoperazone and levofloxacin (24.2%). Conclusion: there is one type of antibiotic combination that has a risk of major interactions that should be avoided.
