Abstract

Rhodamin B is a synthetic dye that is used as a dye for the textile industry which is dangerous. Rhodamin B is often misused as a food and cosmetic coloring agent, where Rhodamin B can cause irritation to the digestive tract, poisoning and can even cause cancer. This study aims to determine the presence or absence of Rhodamin B content in tomato sauce samples circulating in Wajo District, Belawa District. In this study used six samples marked with S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, and S6. Qualitative analysis used the TLC test and quantitatively for positive samples used the Uv-Vis spectrophotometry method. From the research results, it was found that S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 were negative for Rhodamin B while S6 was positive for Rhodamin B where the Rf value was 0.68, the color of the pink stain matched the Rhodamin B comparison.

Abstract

Shrimp waste consisting of heads, shells, legs and tails contains several components such as protein, chitin, enzymes, minerals, carotenoids, and others. One type of carotenoid found in shrimp waste is astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment with higher antioxidant activity compared to other β-carotene and vitamin E derivatives. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of astaxanthin in the shells of vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) from West Malangke District. The astaxanthin compound contained in vannamei shrimp shells was extracted using the UAE method and liquid-liquid extraction. The percentage value of the reduction is 0.486%. Qualitative analysis used thin layer chromatography (TLC) and quantitative analysis using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. TLC analysis on the sample obtained an Rf value of 0.254. Analysis by UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a maximum wavelength of 203 nm obtained y = 0.1513x – 0.0819, correlation coefficient (r) = 0.9947, Vx0 = 4.64%, and the average level of astaxanthin = 73.2 %.

Abstract

DIYAN NURKHALISAH M. Analysis of Hydroquinone in Face Whitening Cream Circulating in Pinrang Regency. (Supervised by Harti Widiastuti and Aminah). Whitening cream is a cosmetic preparation consisting of a mixture of chemicals and other ingredients that aims to whiten or fade black spots on the skin. Many people use whitening creams because they are sold freely. However, not all whitening creams that are sold freely are safe to use because they contain dangerous ingredients, such as hydroquinone. The purpose of this study was to analyze the hydroquinone compound in whitening cream circulating in Pinrang Regency and to find out how much hydroquinone it contained. Qualitative analysis of the four samples using the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) method positively contained hydroquinone which was indicated by the Rf values of the samples and standard standards being the same and the appearance of purple spots which were detected under UV light of 254 nm. Quantitative analysis on four samples using the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method with a flow rate of 1 ml/minute, the mobile phase was methanol:aquabidestilata (55:45), the stationary phase was column C-18, the retention times of the sample and standard were obtained at the same value. namely 1.5 and 1.6 indicating that the sample contains hydroquinone. The linear regression equation y = 39.549x – 283.31 with a correlation coefficient of 0.998. The hydroquinone levels obtained were code A whitening cream of 2.5%; whitening cream B 2.8%; whitening cream C 2.45%; and whitening cream D by 0.9%.

Abstract

Sweeteners are chemical compounds that are widely added and used in various processed food and beverage products, one of which is jam. Jam is a semi-solid food made from fruit or other processed products. Sweeteners consist of natural sweeteners and artificial sweeteners. Cyclamate is one of the artificial sweeteners that is often used in society because it has a sweetness intensity 30 times that of pure sugar. Excessive use of cyclamate can cause negative effects on health such as cancer (carcinogenic), nerve disorders, impaired liver function, stomach irritation and changes in cell function. The maximum limit for using cyclamate in jam according to SNI 01-0222-1995 is 2 g/kg. This study aims to identify and determine the levels of cyclamate in jam circulating in BTP Makassar housing. The type of research used is laboratory observation with simple random sampling technique. This research was conducted qualitatively (TLC and precipitation method) and quantitatively (uv-vis spectrophotometric method). The results of this study indicated that all negative samples contained cyclamate with a standard Rf value of 0.875 for cyclamate.

Abstract

Salak fruit (Salacca edulis Reinw) is one of the fruits whose bark is not used but contains chemical components in the form of secondary metabolites that are beneficial to health. A previous study reported that the bark of salak fruit has potential as an anti-diabetic, antioxidant. The bark of Salak fruit is traditionally beneficial for the treatment of diabetes mellitus by drying then boiling and drinking the boiled water. Therefore, this study aims to determine the total flavonoid content of the bark extract of the pondoh and honey varieties of salak fruit. A sample of 30 g was dissolved with ethanol in a 10 mL volumetric flask, then 1 mL was pipette and added with 0.2 ml AlCl3 and 0.2 mL potassium acetate then allowed to stand for 30 min at 25°C. After being allowed to stand, it was measured on a UV-Vis spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 442 nm. In the measurement with UV-Vis spectrophotometer, the total flavonoid content of the salak bark extract of pondoh and honey varieties were 5.18 mg QE/g and 5.77, respectively.
