Abstract

In the development of cricket farming, important information in regard with cultivated method, type of crickets, feedstuff, density level, and it’s productivity is essential. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different density level and rations on growth performace of three species of local crickets, i.e Gryllus bimaculatus De Geer, Gryllus mitratus Burn and Gryllus testaceus Walk. Three levels of box square density (500, 750 and 1000 cricket/box) and two levels of additional feed (mustard green and papaya leaves)were used as treatments. The results showed that the density level of approximately 1000 cricket/box had no significant influence on growth performance of the three species local crickets. Nevertheless, higher density level tended to increase mortality rate especially for G. bimaculatus (rate of mortality = 45.86%). The use of feed combination of formulated ration plus mustard green resulted in better growth performance and higher egg production compared to the combination of formulated ration plus papaya leaves.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan proses pembelajaran biologi di SMA 1 Kandangserang, mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran dengan pendekatan scientific skill berbasis masalah lingkungan pada limbah produksi tempe-tahu, dan mengevaluasi validitas, efektivitas, serta kepraktisan perangkat pembelajaran tersebut. Metode yang digunakan adalah Research and Development dengan menganalisis kebutuhan kemudian mengembangkan produk dan diuji validitas, efektivitas, dan kepraktisanya hingga diperoleh produk final. Produk yang dikembangkan adalah perangkat pembelajaran dengan pendekatan scientific skill teknologi fermentasi berbasis masalah lingkungan pada limbah produksi tempe-tahu, yaitu meliputi silabus, RPP, bahan ajar, lembar diskusi peserta didik (LDPD), dan lembar penilaian scientific skill. Hasil analisis menunjukkan perangkat pembelajaran sangat valid, efektif, dan praktis diterapkan. Guru hendaknya menerapkan perangkat pembelajaran dengan pendekatan scientific skill teknologi fermentasi berbasis masalah lingkungan pada limbah produksi tempe-tahu. The research aims to describe biology learning process in SMA 1 Kandangserang detaily, expand learning process with scientific skill approach problem based learning, and evaluate the validity, effectivity, and practical the learning equipment. The method in this research is Research and Development, by analyzing the need and then developing a product and find the validity, effectivity, practically until gets the final product. The product that been developed is learning equipment with scientific skill technology of fermentation that principle with surrounding problems, consist of the syllabi, lesson plan, teaching materials, student discussion papers, and scientific skill’s evaluation  paper. The learning equipment is valid, efective and has been used. Learning equipment using scientific skill inenvironment problem based should be applied in making of tempe-tahu by the teacher.

Abstract

Abstrak. Pemerintah Kota Semarang saat ini sedang giat melakukan berbagai upaya untuk mengurangi sampah, termasuk mendaur ulang sampah agar dapat digunakan kembali. Tim pengabdian masyarakat Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) melakukan pendampingan kelompok masyarakat Kelurahan Plamongansari, Kecamatan Pedurungan, Kota Semarang dalam rangka pengurangan sampah dengan budidaya Maggot (Hermetia illucens) dengan media sampah organik. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk membuat contoh budidaya maggot di kelompok Masyarakat. Cara pelaksanaan : 1) menyediakan bahan alat. 2) membantu proses budidaya maggot dari awal hingga panen. Hasilnya melalui kegiatan kelompok, masyarakat sudah bisa membudidayakan maggot dan memanen larva maggot. Abstract. The Semarang city government is currently actively carrying out various efforts to reduce waste, including recycling waste that can be reused. The Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) community service team assisted community groups in Plamongansari sub-district community group, Pedurungan District, Semarang city in order to reduce waste by cultivating Maggot (Hermetia illucens) with organic waste media. The aim of this activity was to create an example of maggot cultivation in the community group. Implementation method: 1) provide tool materials. 2) assisting the maggot cultivation process from start to harvest. As a result of group activities, the community has been able to cultivate maggots and has harvested maggot larvae.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengevaluasi efek perendaman daging ayam broiler dalam konsentrasi infusa daun salam yang berbeda. Penelitian menggunakan desain faktorial dengan 3 taraf konsentrasi infusa (0%; 5%; dan 10%) serta dua waktu pengamatan yaitu 0 dan 8 jam setelah perlakuan perendaman. Parameter yang diukur meliputi rata-rata bilangan peroksida, pH, kadar air dan water holding capacity (WHC). Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis varian dan uji perbedaan akibat perlakuan dilakukan dengan uji beda nyata terkecil. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengukuran pH dan WHC sesaat setelah perlakuan memperlihatkan perbedaan nyata (P0,05), sementara bilangan peroksida dan kadar air tidak berbeda nyata. Pada 8 jam setelah perendaman, terlihat bahwa nilai peroksida, pH, kadar air dan WHC menunjukkan perbedaan nyata. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa infusa daun salam mampu memperlambat laju bilangan peroksida, memperlambat penurunan pH dan memperlambat penurunan WHC.The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the immersion of chicken meat in the bayleaf extract and the time of measurement on the quality of the meat. This was a factorial experiment with three levels of bayleaf extract concentrations (0%, 5% and 10%), and two time of measurement (at 0 and 8 hours after the treatment). The parameters observed were the average peroxide value, the pH, the water content and the water holding capacity. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and followed by the least significant difference test for any significant difference. The results showed that the pH and the water holding capacity were significantly different (P0.05), whereas the peroxide value and the water content were not significantly different. Nevertheless, at eight hours after the immersion it was seen that the peroxide value, the pH, the water content and the water holding capacity were significantly different. It was concluded that the extract of bayleaves might slower the rate of the peroxide value, could decrease the pH, and decrease the water holding capacity.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan pertumbuhan, viabilitas dan produksi kokon ulat sutera Bombyx mori L yang diberi pakan alami dan pakan buatan berpengawet. Penelitian ini menggunakan ulat sutera Bombyx mori L. ras 301 hasil silangan ras Jepang dengan ras Cina yang diperoleh dari Pusat Produksi Ulat Sutera Temanggung. Variabel yang diukur selama penelitian adalah rata-rata pertambahan bobot badan, viabilitas, jumlah kokon,bobot kokon utuh dan kokon kosong. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan uji t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian pakan buatan dan pakan alami menghasilkan perbedaan nyata terhadap pertumbuhan bobot badan, viabilitas, jumlah kokon, bobot kokon utuh dan kokon kosong. Pertumbuhan ulat sutera yang diberi pakan buatan berpengawet lebih rendah dibanding pertumbuhan ulat sutera dengan pakan alami, akan tetapi sebaliknya viabilitas dan produksi kokon lebih baik. The aim of this research was to compare the difference of growth, viability and cocoon production of silkworm (Bombyx mori L) fed by natural food and preserved artificial food. The artificial food were prepared with the addition of preservatives. The research used the silkworms Bombyx mori L variant 301 resulted from the crossbreeding between the Japanese silkworms and the Chinese silkworms obtained from PPUS, Temanggung. The parameters observed were the average body weight gain, the viability and the production of cocoon (the weight of the whole cocoon and the weight of empty cocoon). The data obtained was analyzed using t-test. The result confirmed that the artificial feeding and the natural feeding showed a significant difference in the increase of body weight, the viability and the production of cocoons of Bombyx mori L. It was concluded that the growth of body weight of silkworms fed with artificial feeding was lower than those fed with natural feeding, but higher in the viability and the cocoon production.

Abstract

Many researchers confirmed that entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) of the genera Heterorhabditis and Steinernema can be cultivated in vitro using artificial media that containing animal nutrition. However, artificial media with insect component hasn’t been widely studied. This research aims to analyze the population of EPNs isolate of Semarang cultivated in mealworm powder media. Five doses of mealworm powder (Tenebrio molitor) were tested in this research, i.e: 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0 g.  Culture media using 1 g of mealworm larvae was used as control. The best treatment was further tested for its pathogenicity on Macrotermes sp. at seven levels of invective juveniles (IJs) : 0; 50; 100; 150; 200; 250; 300 IJs/mL. Each treatment was repeated five times. The EPNs population and termites mortality were analyzed using ANAVA, whereas pathogenic value was calculated using Probit analysis. The result showed EPNs population were significantly (LSD test; α 0.05), likewise on termites mortality. The EPNs isolate of Semarang optimally at 0.5 g mealworm powder and  pathogenicity against termites based on LD50 and LD90 values at 220 JI/mL and 410 JI/mL doses, respectively. In conclusion, this result  can be an alternative to mass cultivation of EPNs, in effort of development of local bioinsecticides. The findings of this study also inform farmers that EPNs can be easily cultivated using the simple and available materials.

Abstract

Karang Taruna Sendangmulyo is one of the youth organizations in Tembalang District, Semarang City. Based on the motivation of the village heads, this organization is directed to have an active role in accelerating the integrated waste management program launched by the local government. Manajemen of vegetable and fruit waste is a priority because of its great potential with the existence of traditional markets and the vegetable and fruit traders in this area. The purpose of this activity is to maximize the active role of Karang Taruna in managing profit-oriented waste. Waste management that is suitable for this condition is processing vegetable and fruit waste into liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) using fermentation techniques. The method of implementing this service is by explaining the innovation of waste fermentation techniques using a composter, demonstrations followed by implementation, as well as designing a marketing strategy. From the results of this activity, there was an increase in the knowledge, understanding, and skills of participants in making LOF using fermentation techniques. LOF produced has nutrient quality by the quality standards of liquid organic fertilizer as listed in the attachment of the Minister of Agriculture Number. 70/Permentan/SR.140/10/2019, so it is marketable. The initial strategy in marketing was to display LOF packaged in a bottle labeled by Karang Taruna. Promotional efforts are carried out through residents and women's organizations, as well as meeting forums which are often held at the village and sub-district levels.  ---   Karang taruna Sendangmulyo adalah salah satu organisasi pemuda di Kecamatan Tembalang Kota Semarang. Atas motivasi lurah desa, organisasi ini diarahkan untuk berperan aktif dalam percepatan program pengelolaan sampah terpadu yang dicanangkan pemerintah setempat. Pengelolaan limbah sayuran dan buah-buahan menjadi prioritas karena potensinya yang besar dengan keberadaan pasar tradisional serta banyaknya pedagang sayur dan buah di wilayah ini. Pengelolaan limbah yang cocok adalah mengolah limbah sayuran dan buah menjadi pupuk organik cair (POC) menggunakan teknik fermentasi. Tujuannya adalah memaksimalkan peran aktif karang taruna dalam mengelola sampah berorientasi profit. Adapun pelaksanaan pengabdian menggunakan metode partisipatif meliputi tahap paparan tentang teknik fermentasi limbah menggunakan komposter, demonstrasi dilanjutkan implementasi, serta merancang strategi pemasaran. Dari kegiatan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pelatihan pengolahan sampah organik yang dilakukan berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan anggota Karang taruna Sendangmulyo dalam pembuatan POC dengan teknik fermentasi. Hasil implementasi pelatihan pembuatan POC menunjukkan keberhasilan 100%, terbukti dengan hasil analisis laboratorium menunjukkan kualitas POC memenuhi syarat unsur hara sesuai dengan standar mutu pupuk organik cair (Permentan Nomor 70/Permentan/SR.140/10/2019). Strategi pemasaran produk ditindaklanjuti dengan keseriusan kelompok Karang Taruna mewujudkan desain kemasan produk dan hasil analisis kualitas yang dicantumkan dalam label botol kemasan agar layak dipasarkan.

Abstract

Hermetia illucens, often called BSF larvae, is an insect that has a high enough protein content so that it becomes an alternative animal feed that fulfills a high and quality protein source for animal feed. Bioconversion that utilizes organic materials by involving living organisms. Utilization of waste materials from banana peels and soybean husks as feed media for BSF larvae. This study aims to analyze the results of feeding a combination of banana peels and soybean epidermis on weight, waste reduction index and protein and fat content in BSF larvae. This study used an experimental method with the RAL technique (completely randomized design) with five treatments and four repetitions A : 100% banana peel waste, B : 75% banana peel + 25% soybean husk, C : 50% epidermis + 50% peel banana, D : 25% banana peel + 25% soybean epidermis, E : 100% soybean epidermis using 2kg of feed medium for each treatment. The results showed that the heaviest final weight was in treatment D (25% banana peel and 75% soybean epidermis) with an average final larval weight of 0.15 grams, the waste reduction index was 3.78%/day. The highest protein content in this study was in treatment A (100% banana peel) namely 48.97% and the highest fat content was in treatment D (25% banana peel and 75% soybean husk) namely 32.69%.

Abstract

Styrofoam termasuk jenis plastik berbahan dasar polystyrene, yang dalam kehidupan sehari-hari banyak digunakan sebagai pengemas makanan. Adapun spons adalah produk kategori plastik berbahan polyurethane. Kedua jenis sampah anorganik ini tidak dapat terdegradasi secara alami. Beberapa serangga dari anggota familia Tenebrionidae termasuk Alphitobius diaperinus, dapat mendegradasi plastik jenis polystyrene sehingga berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai biodegradator sampah plastik. Namun demikian penambahan sampah plastik dalam pakannya dapat mempengaruhi siklus hidup dan kemampuan metamorfosisnya. Bahasan berupa analisis kemampuan ulat kandang dalam mendegradasi sampah styrofoam dan spons serta menganalisis pengaruhnya terhadap kemampuan metamorfosis. Larva dipelihara menggunakan lima macam media perlakuan yaitu perlakuan kontrol berupa pakan biasa, penambahan sampah Styrofoam, penambahan sampah spons; dan hanya styrofoam saja, hanya spons saja. Pada waktu pemeliharaan yang sama, penyusutan limbah styrofoam akibat degradasi larva A. diaperinus lebih tinggi dibanding penyusutan spons, tetapi akibat penambahan sampah styrofoam dan spons tidak mempengaruhi konsumsi pakan larva. Perbedaan perlakuan sampah berpengaruh terhadap kelangsungan hidup, laju perubahan larva menjadi imago dan kemampuan metamorfosis larva A. diaperinus. Secara keseluruhan penambahan styrofoam dan spons dalam pakan tidak mengganggu aktivitas makan larva, kelangsungan hidup dan kemampuan metamorfosis, tetapi larva mampu mendegradasi styrofoam lebih baik dibanding spons. Hasil ini memperkuat dugaan bahwa larva A. diaperinus berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai biodegradator sampah plastik khususnya styrofoam, sehingga berpeluang membantu mengatasi permasalahan lingkungan.

Abstract

Beauveria Bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae dan Trichoderma sp. merupakan jamur agensia pengendali hayati, tumbuh seperti bubuk yang digunakan untuk mengendalikan serangga hama dan penyakit tanaman. Pembuatan ketiga jamur tersebut umumnya menggunakan media jagung terpotong kecil-kecil. Setelah media digunakan media menjadi limbah yang biasanya dibuang. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengolah media yang sudah pernah digunakan untuk pembiakan jamur, yang berasal dari limbah jagung terpotong kecil-kecil menjadi media baru yang dapat digunakan kembali sebagai media pembiakan jamur. Metode pembiakan dilakukan dengan menambah media bekas pembiakan jamur yaitu limbah jagung pecahan, selanjutnya dikeringkan dan diformulasikan kembali dengan air kelapa dan pupuk. Hasilnya jamur dapat tumbuh lebih baik pada media limbah jagung, karena penambahan nutrisi dari NPK dan air kelapa.
