Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of the preservation of ancient manuscripts from the Philology Practicum activities conducted by the students of the Arabic Language and Literature Program (BSA) at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, at Dayah Teungku Chiek Awe Geutah. The philology Practicum is a Compulsory course for BSA Students, making it an essential activity for them to undertake before completing their studies. This activity is expected to have a significant impact on students in preserving ancient manuscripts, which are important heritage, and also assist the heirs of Teungku Chiek Awe Geutah in maintaining and preserving these manuscripts. Based on these considerations, this study formulates the following research questions: 1) Why is the Philology Practicum course important for the preservation of ancient manuscripts at Dayah Teungku Chiek Awe Geutah. 2) What is the impact of the Philology Practicum activities on the preservation of ancient manuscripts at Dayah Teungku Chiek Awe Guetah? Using a descriptive qualitative methodology based on preservation theory with a literature study approach, the researchers conducted analysis and data collection through stages consisting of observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The data analysis was carried out in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results obtained from this research are: 1) The Philology Practicum activities conducted by BSA students have a significant impact on the preservation of ancient manuscripts at Dayah Teungku Chiek Awe Guetah. 2) The Philology Practicum activities assist the heirs in identifying the manuscripts located ata Dayah Teungku Chiek Awe Geutah. 3) There are three obstacles faced by the heirs in preserving the manuscripts: human resources (HR), limited budget, and adequate facilities.

Abstract

This This study compares the calligraphic rules of two renowned Arabic calligraphers, Muhammad Shawqi and Hashim Muhammad Al-Baghdadi, with a focus on their treatment of the Naskh script. Using a comparative qualitative approach, the research analyzes their methods for forming both isolated and connected letters. The findings highlight key stylistic differences: Shawqi favored elongated, intricate letterforms suited for high-quality manuscript production, while Al-Baghdadi employed a simplified and systematic style aimed at educational accessibility. Despite these differences, both shared pedagogical practices, such as beginning lessons with the prayer "Rabbi yassir wa la tu’assir" and starting instruction with isolated letters. The study concludes that Shawqi and Al-Baghdadi played complementary roles in the evolution of Arabic calligraphy—preserving its artistic excellence and expanding its reach through education. This analysis offers new insights into the stylistic and instructional legacies of both figures within the broader context of Arabic calligraphic tradition. مستخلص تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إجراء مقارنة منهجية بين قواعد الخط عند اثنين من أشهر الخطاطين العرب المعاصرين، وهما محمد شوقي وهاشم محمد البغدادي، مع التركيز على معالجتهما لخط النسخ. ومن خلال منهج نوعي مقارن، تتناول الدراسة تحليل الأساليب الفنية التي اعتمدها كل منهما في تشكيل الحروف المفردة والمترابطة، وذلك في سياق تطور هذا الفن العربي الأصيل. وقد كشفت النتائج عن وجود فروق جوهرية في الأسلوب الفني بين الخطاطين؛ حيث اتسم أسلوب شوقي بطول الحروف وتعقيد أشكالها، مما جعله مناسبًا لإنتاج المخطوطات ذات الجودة العالية، في حين تميز أسلوب البغدادي بالبساطة والنظام، مما جعله أكثر ملاءمة للأغراض التعليمية ونقل المهارات الخطية للمبتدئين. ورغم هذه الفروق، يشترك الخطاطان في جملة من الممارسات التربوية، من أبرزها افتتاح الدروس بالدعاء المأثور "ربّ يسّر ولا تعسّر"، والبدء بتعليم الحروف المفردة. وتخلص الدراسة إلى أن محمد شوقي وهاشم البغدادي قد أدّيا دورين تكامليين في مسيرة تطوّر الخط العربي؛ فبينما ساهم الأول في الحفاظ على القيمة الفنية والجمالية لهذا الفن، أسهم الثاني في نشره وتيسير تعليمه على نطاق أوسع. وتوفر هذه الدراسة رؤية تحليلية معمقة للإرث الفني والتعليمي لكلا الخطاطين، ضمن الإطار العام لتقاليد الخط العربي وتطوّره المعاصر

Abstract

This article presents the relation between Arabic, Islam, and globalization. It highlighted the challenges faced by globalization to Islamic and Arabic identities. The research aimed to explore how modern technological advancements, particularly in information and communication technologies (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI), can be utilized to revitalize Islamic and Arabic studies. A qualitative methodology was employed, drawing on Islamic theological texts, historical scholarship, and recent trends in AI and ICT. The results showed that ICT, including the internet, mobile devices, and social media, plays a crucial role in transforming communication, education, and scholarship. It enables the dissemination of Islamic knowledge globally and provides new platforms for linguistic and theological engagement. Furthermore, the study examined how AI, when applied within an ethical Islamic framework, can contribute to human well-being, particularly in sectors like healthcare, by preserving life and promoting justice. The research also underscored the necessity of renewing Arabic linguistic studies to ensure they adapt to modern learning methods, such as e-learning and AI-enhanced teaching tools. The study concluded by emphasizing that the ethical integration of AI in Islamic and Arabic studies offered significant opportunities for cultural and intellectual renewal, ensuring the relevance of these fields in the digital age while preserving Islamic principles.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze strategies for utilizing the Arabic language skills of students from the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program (BSA) in supporting the development of tourism in Central Aceh. The background of this research is rooted in the need to strengthen the competitiveness of the regional tourism sector based on Islamic values and local culture, while at the same time optimizing the linguistic potential of BSA students as a strategic human resource asset. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and content analysis of digital publications produced by students and shared on the social media platforms of the BSA Department at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. The findings indicate that Arabic language skills can be utilized in two main areas: digital marketing to attract tourists from Middle Eastern countries, and the development of educational tourism through the “Language Village” concept. Institutional collaboration between the BSA Study Program and the Central Aceh Tourism Office has also proven to create opportunities for sustainable synergy in training programs, cultural promotion, and applied research. This study concludes that Arabic is not only an academic tool, but also holds significant economic and cultural value for the development of local tourism. Abstrak Penelitian ini menganalisis model strategis pemanfaatan kompetensi bahasa Arab mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa dan Sastra Arab (BSA) untuk mendukung pengembangan pariwisata di Aceh Tengah. Dengan menggunakan desain kualitatif deskriptif dan pendekatan studi kasus, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi, serta analisis konten terhadap publikasi digital mahasiswa yang disebarluaskan melalui platform media sosial resmi Jurusan BSA UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dua domain strategis utama, yaitu: (1) pemasaran digital yang menyasar wisatawan dari negara-negara Timur Tengah dan (2) pengembangan wisata edukasi melalui model “Kampung Bahasa”. Selain itu, kolaborasi kelembagaan antara Program Studi BSA dan Dinas Pariwisata Aceh Tengah terbukti mendorong terciptanya sinergi berkelanjutan dalam program pelatihan, promosi budaya, dan penelitian terapan. Secara teoretis, penelitian ini berkontribusi dengan memperluas kajian pendidikan bahasa Arab ke dalam kerangka pengembangan sosial-ekonomi dan budaya, serta secara praktis menawarkan model strategis yang aplikatif bagi perumusan kebijakan pariwisata daerah. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada pengajuan model integratif yang secara sistematis mengaitkan kompetensi bahasa Arab mahasiswa dengan strategi pengembangan pariwisata dalam konteks budaya Islam lokal.

Abstract

This study examines rhetoric as a medium of ideological representation in public discourse, focusing on Anies Baswedan's speech delivered at the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Campus Mosque in the month of Ramadan. Rhetoric, both in the classical Arabic tradition (al-balāghah) and in the modern context, is understood not only as the art of speech, but also as an instrument for shaping social meaning, defending or challenging ideology, and reproducing symbolic power. In contemporary society, public discourse serves as a strategic arena in the formation of collective consciousness and social legitimacy. This study uses the three-dimensional Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach from Norman Fairclough: text analysis, discourse practice, and social practice. The method used is qualitative-descriptive with the main data in the form of transcripts and video documentation of speeches. Data collection techniques are carried out through documentation and literature studies, while analysis is carried out in three stages: linguistic description, interpretation of the context of discourse production and consumption, and socio-ideological explanation. The results of the study show that Anies Baswedan's speech contains rhetorical strategies that represent religious values, education, and integrity, and succeed in combining academic and socio-cultural symbolic spaces as a means of ideological legitimacy and the formation of collective perceptions. These findings confirm that rhetoric in public discourse plays an important role in the production and distribution of ideology in society. Penelitian ini mengkaji retorika sebagai medium representasi ideologi dalam wacana publik, dengan fokus pada pidato Anies Baswedan yang disampaikan di Masjid Kampus Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) pada bulan Ramadhan. Retorika, baik dalam tradisi klasik Arab (al-balāghah) maupun dalam konteks modern, tidak hanya dipahami sebagai seni berbicara, tetapi juga sebagai instrumen untuk membentuk makna sosial, mempertahankan atau menantang ideologi, serta mereproduksi kekuasaan simbolik. Dalam masyarakat kontemporer, wacana publik berfungsi sebagai arena strategis dalam pembentukan kesadaran kolektif dan legitimasi sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Analisis Wacana Kritis (AWK) model tiga dimensi dari Norman Fairclough: analisis teks, praktik wacana, dan praktik sosial. Metode yang digunakan bersifat kualitatif-deskriptif dengan data utama berupa transkrip dan dokumentasi video pidato. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui dokumentasi dan studi pustaka, sedangkan analisis dilakukan dalam tiga tahap: deskripsi linguistik, interpretasi konteks produksi dan konsumsi wacana, serta eksplanasi sosial-ideologis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pidato Anies Baswedan mengandung strategi retoris yang merepresentasikan nilai-nilai keagamaan, pendidikan, dan integritas, serta berhasil menggabungkan ruang simbolik akademik dan sosial budaya sebagai sarana legitimasi ideologis dan pembentukan persepsi kolektif. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa retorika dalam wacana publik memainkan peran penting dalam produksi dan distribusi ideologi dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategic role of the Arabic language in enhancing the appeal of local tourism in Aceh, particularly in the development of halal tourism. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a library research approach. Data were obtained from various scholarly sources, including journals, books, articles, and official documents. The findings show that the use of Arabic in tourism promotion, services, and communication can improve the comfort and trust of Muslim tourists, especially from Arabic-speaking countries. One of the regions with significant potential for developing Islamic tourism in Aceh is Subulussalam City. With religious sites such as the tomb of Sheikh Hamzah Fansuri and the Grand Mosque of Subulussalam, the city has an opportunity to emerge as an alternative halal tourism destination. However, the limited Arabic proficiency among local tourism actors remains a key challenge. Therefore, integrating Arabic into vocational education, providing industry-based training, and developing Arabic-language digital promotional media are necessary to support Aceh including Subulussalam as a leading halal tourism destination in Southeast Asia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran strategis bahasa Arab dalam meningkatkan daya tarik pariwisata lokal di Aceh, khususnya dalam konteks pengembangan wisata halal. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka. Data diperoleh dari berbagai literatur ilmiah, seperti jurnal akademik, buku, artikel, dan dokumen resmi yang relevan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bahasa Arab dalam promosi, pelayanan, dan komunikasi pariwisata dapat meningkatkan kenyamanan serta kepercayaan wisatawan Muslim, terutama dari negara-negara berbahasa Arab. Salah satu daerah yang memiliki potensi besar dalam pengembangan wisata religi di Aceh adalah Kota Subulussalam. Dengan keberadaan situs-situs Islam seperti makam Syekh Hamzah Fansuri dan Masjid Agung Subulussalam, kota ini memiliki peluang menjadi destinasi wisata halal alternatif. Namun, keterbatasan penguasaan bahasa Arab di kalangan pelaku wisata lokal masih menjadi kendala utama. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan integrasi bahasa Arab dalam pendidikan vokasi, pelatihan industri, serta pengembangan media promosi digital berbahasa Arab guna mendukung posisi Aceh, termasuk Subulussalam, sebagai destinasi wisata halal unggulan di Asia Tenggara.

Abstract

This study analyzes the construction of armed conflict in Arabic news discourse through the nuanced application of four lexical anchors in Al Jazeera Arabic reporting: ḥarb (war), ṣirāʿ (conflict), silāḥ (weapons), and ḍaḥīya (victim). The issue at hand is that assessments of responsibility, humanitarian impact, and political legitimacy are frequently embedded in local lexical selections that are insufficiently analyzed in limited Arabic corpora. The goal is to figure out what these words mean in context and how they shape the way we talk about violence, competition, ability, and agency. The research utilizes a concordance-only corpus linguistic design through Sketch Engine. Ten hard news articles are collected into a custom corpus, and every Key Word in Context line for the four target words is read and coded, keeping clause-level co-text like intensifiers, numeric strings, attribution verbs, and source nouns. The findings show that there are different roles in the discourse. Ḥarb co selects with more intense descriptors and more precise numbers for humanitarian harm, such as detailed casualty and economic figures. This moralizes and measures war. Ṣirāʿ records competition between multiple actors and structural conflict, often placing current conflicts in the context of longer historical patterns. Silāḥ manifests in claims concerning military action that are evidentially circumscribed, as well as in material records detailing logistics, funding, and safe havens, while simultaneously leveraging public opinion data. ḍaḥīya functions as a transition from passive victimhood to an agentive identity through value-laden lexicon and the legitimization of surveys. Implications encompass the efficacy of concordance-based deep analysis for small Arabic corpora, practical monitoring criteria for newsrooms regarding numeric displays and source attribution, and groundwork for cross-outlet comparisons and Arabic-sensitive quantitative layering in subsequent research.

Abstract

Future generations are a crucial pillar of society. They will become leaders and take charge of societal development. Therefore, preparing the younger generation is essential, especially through dayah educational institutions. As the oldest religious education institutions operating within Indonesian society, dayah institutions face numerous challenges in adapting to the digital era. These challenges include preparing the younger generation to keep up with modern developments and becoming agents of community development. This article employs qualitative research methods to address these issues, using observation and analytical studies of relevant documentation. The findings suggest that dayah educational institutions need to modernize their systems by integrating technological advancements and preparing adequate resources to support their educational missions. Additionally, incorporating religious moderation into the curriculum is necessary to foster tolerance and appreciation for diversity among the younger generation. This approach aims to safeguard them from the influence of hoaxes disseminated by irresponsible parties via social media and the internet, which could disrupt societal unity.
