Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Energy Audit follows ISO 50002 standard had been done on one of gold mining industry in North Maluku, Indonesia that has operations involving two underground mining. As part of the energy audit report, this paper present energy sources and energy consumption, specific energy consumption cum energy intensity of the plant.  Energy audit methods include energy audit planning, opening meeting, data collection, measurement plant, siti visit, data analysis, energy audit reporting and closing audit. Most electricity data were collected from the SCADA system which the company use to monitor and control maximum electricity demand. Arithmetic mean, energy intensity equation and visual graphic methods had been employed to investigate energy profile and energy performance indicator of this gold mining. As the site located far away from the national grid then four Diesel powerhouses generates the electricity. Fuel consumption for four unit mainly electricity generation, transportation, heavy duty and supporting are investigated thoroughly. Since Diesel powerhouse occupy more than 80 % fuel consumption then the Diesel power houses is the Significant energy users (SEU). Further study SEC and on heat rate of the powerhouse is carried out and benchmarked with the IEA. It shows that the powerhouses have excellent performance as SEC and heat rate is lower than typical powerhouses. The powerhouse distributed electricity to four different unit, Kencana Underground Mining, Toguraci underground mining, Mill and Merril Crowe Processes and Supporting Unit. Among these units, Togurachi under gound mining with its uniqueness become the highest electricity end user as expected. It covers more than 40 % electricity consumption resulting quite high total energy intensity by ore milled which is approximately 475 kWh/ton (1710 MJ/ton) and energy intensity by Dore bullion is 1,420 kWh/ounce (5108 MJ/oz).

Abstract

This study explores the effects of different speed bump geometries—flat-topped, sinusoidal, and parabolic—on vehicle dynamics and ride comfort using CarSim simulations. The analysis focuses on key parameters such as vertical forces on the suspension, vertical acceleration, and the wheel surface adhesion index. The results show that flat-topped bumps generate the highest vertical forces, reaching peaks of up to 6,000 N on the front suspension, leading to increased discomfort. Sinusoidal bumps, in contrast, generate smoother transitions, with vertical forces peaking at approximately 3,500 N, improving ride comfort. At vehicle speeds of 30 km/h, the vertical forces on the suspension increase significantly, with flat-topped bumps reducing the wheel surface adhesion index to as low as 0.6, indicating a higher risk of wheel slip and compromised vehicle stability. In contrast, sinusoidal bumps maintain a more favorable adhesion index of 0.85 at similar speeds. These reductions in adhesion elevate the risk of loss of control, especially at higher speeds. The findings suggest that adaptive suspension systems, capable of adjusting damping and stiffness based on the bump geometry and vehicle speed, would enhance ride quality and stability. Additionally, smoother bump designs, such as sinusoidal profiles, are recommended to reduce the impact on vehicle dynamics, particularly in urban environments. These insights contribute to improving both vehicle design and road safety, ensuring safer and more comfortable driving experiences.

Abstract

The aviation industry faces significant challenges in reducing environmental impacts, particularly fuel consumption and  noise pollution.  To  address  these  issues,  various  aerodynamic optimization and flow control technologies have been developed to enhance aircraft efficiency. One promising approach is Active Flow Control (AFC), particularly in wing-flap configurations. However, cambered flaps can induce flow separation, leading to increased drag and reduced aerodynamic performance. This study investigates the application of AFC using Zero Net Mass Flux (ZNMF) to mitigate flow separation and improve aerodynamic efficiency. Numerical simulations were conducted using ANSYS Fluent, employing the Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation –Spalart-Allmaras (DDES-SA) turbulence model to accurately capture flow separation and vortex structures. The research explores a novel ZNMF geometry, analyzing different frequency and velocity parameters to determine the optimal settings for suppressing flow separation. The results demonstrate that  the  Synthetic  Jet  Actuator  (SJA)  significantly enhances aerodynamic efficiency by optimizing the CL/CD  ratio through drag reduction without major lift loss. Optimal performance is achieved at frequencies of 150–300 Hz and jet velocities of ≥150 m/s, stabilizing airflow, reducing flow separation, and suppressing vortex formation. At an AOA of 0°, a frequency of 100 Hz provides the greatest CL reduction, while at an AOA of 10°, frequencies of 100–250  Hz  substantially improve  the  CL/CD   ratio.  This  study confirms that SJA is an effective strategy for drag reduction and aerodynamic optimization. These findings highlight its potential to improve aircraft performance, reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, and contribute to more sustainable aviation technology
