Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of the Spelling Bee game in enriching students’ vocabulary. This study was carried out at SMK Negeri 2 Tondano, in which the subject was the 10th grade tourism department students which consist of 12 students. This research used quantitative research through the pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The data of this research were collected by using tests in the form of pre-test and post-test. The result of this research showed that the scores of the students in the post-test are higher than the pre-test. The mean of the post-test was 89.21 while the mean of the pre–test was 58.49. It means that using the Spelling Bee game in teaching vocabulary is effective in enriching students’ vocabulary.

Abstract

This study intends to investigate the effectiveness of desert island activity in improving students' vocabulary. In conducting this research, the authors used quantitative research through post-test only with the experimental group and the control group. This research was conducted at SMPN 2 Tondano. The subject of the research is the 8th grade students at SMPN 2 Tondano. The findings show that the use of the desert island activity is very effective in improving students' English vocabulary skills. It further supports that choosing the right game and educating greatly influences the output of each learner. Therefore, the importance of the desert island activity in the process of learning English vocabulary for students, especially for the conditions of students in Indonesia with various learning styles, one of which is the Minahasa Regency, which has inadequate network access, can make the desert island activity a good reference to be recommended to students.

Abstract

E-learning in academics which is characterized by the use of multimedia constructs made the process of learning more active, interesting, and enjoyable This study aims to describe students' perceptions about the effectiveness of using the Google Classroom application in learning activities on the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Tondano in the academic year 2021-2022. In conducting this research, researchers used a questionnaire as a medium for collecting data. Researchers analyzed the data in 4 factors such as usefulness, ease of use, ease of learning and satisfaction. Usefulness refers to whether the application is useful and helps learning activities every day. Ease of use relates to the ease of the user in running the application. Ease of learning relates to the ease of users in learning to use applications. And satisfication refers to user satisfaction with the Google Classroom application. Based on the data, the researcher concluded that Google Classroom application is effective to use as a learning medium.

Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyse the derivational affixes of both Manado-Malay and English languages in term of form and meaning in verb, adjective, noun and adverb, and the similarities and differences of derivational affixes in Manado-Malay and English languages by using O’Grady’s (1987) theory and contrasting them using Lado’s (1971) method. The English data were collected from several sources: English book, such Contemporary Linguistic Analysis: An Introduction by O’Grady/ Dobrovolsky, English Dictionary and looking for some information from internet media related to derivation affixes in English and Manado-Malay data were taken from three native speaker as informants who were born and lived in the land of Manado. The result of this research showed that the types of English derivational affixes are prefixes and suffixes. The types of Manado-Malay derivational affixes are prefixes, suffixes, and confixes. The function of both English and Manado-Malay derivational affixes are to create new lexeme that may change the parts of speech or not. The similarities between Manado-Malay and English are that both languages have prefixes and suffixes process. The differences of both derivational affixes are English derivational affixes form new English words through prefixation and suffixation; meanwhile, there are confixation in Manado-Malay language. Noun-forming prefixes in English are only attached to noun bases, while in Manado-Malay noun-forming prefixes can be attached to the base of noun, verbs and adjectives. Suffix forms in English form nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.

Abstract

This study focuses on students’ interest in English, and how it influences students’ achievement. The aim of this study is to figure out whether there is a correlation between students’ interest and their academic achievement in learning English. The number of the sample in this research are 87 students at the second grade of SMA Negeri 1 Tomohon. This study used quantitative research design which is non-experimental research. The data collected with questionnaire to obtain the information about students’ interest and students’ achievement in learning English. The questionnaire consists of 31 items divided into positive and negative statements. The items were tested with SPPS to determent the validity and the reliability of each items. The data was analysed by using the formula of Pearson Product Moment Correlation. It was found that the correlation score was 0.424. The significance value was 0.217 showed in the r table. The score of correlation 0.424 was higher than the significance value 0.217, means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Based on the result, it can be concluded that there was a positive correlation between students’ interest and their academic achievement in learning English. The researcher suggests that the case interest is very important particularly in affecting students’ achievement, therefore it must be improved.

Abstract

Abstract. The G20 is a multilateral cooperation forum consisting of 19 major countries and the European Union (EU). The G20 represents more than 60% of the world's population, 75% of global trade and 80% of world GDP. The G20 members consist of South Africa, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Russia, France, China, Turkey and the European Union. Companies that need funds can sell their securities on the capital market. Securities newly issued by the company are sold in the primary market. The newly sold securities can be in the form of an initial public offering (IPO) or additional new securities if the company has gone public (these additional securities are often called seasoned new issues). The results of the research show that the Indonesian capital market towards the South African capital market obtained a value of 0.553 so that the level of closeness of the relationship is moderate. The Indonesian capital market against the United States capital market obtained a value of 0.473, so the level of close relationship is moderate. The Indonesian capital market against the Australian capital market obtained a value of 0.435 so that the level of close relationship is moderate. The Indonesian capital market against the British capital market obtained a value of 0.699 so that the level of closeness of the relationship is Strong. The Indonesian capital market against the Chinese capital market obtained a value of 0.713 so that the level of closeness of the relationship is strong. The Indonesian capital market against the Japanese capital market obtained a value of 0.597 so that the level of closeness of the relationship is moderate. The Indonesian capital market against the South Korean capital market obtained a value of 0.693 so that the close relationship is strong. The Indonesian capital market against the French capital market obtained a value of 0.508 so it can be concluded that the level of closeness of the relationship is moderate. Abstrak.  G20 adalah forum kerja sama multilateral yang terdiri dari 19 negara utama dan Uni Eropa (EU). G20 merepresentasikan lebih dari 60% populasi bumi, 75% perdagangan global, dan 80% PDB dunia. Anggota G20 terdiri dari Afrika Selatan, Amerika Serikat, Arab Saudi, Argentina, Australia, Brasil, India, Indonesia, Inggris, Italia, Jepang, Jerman, Kanada, Meksiko, Republik Korea, Rusia, Perancis, Tiongkok, Turki dan Uni Eropa. Perusahaan yang membutuhkan dana dapat menjual surat berharganya dipasar modal. Surat berharga yang baru dikeluarkan oleh perusahaan dijual di pasar primer (primary market). Surat berharga yang baru dijual dapat berupa penawaran perdana ke public (initial public offering atau IPO) atau tambahan surat berharga baru jika perusahaan sudah going public (sekuritas tambahan ini sering disebut dengan seasoned new issues). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pasar modal Indonesia terhadap pasar modal Afrika Selatan memperoleh nilai sebesar 0.553 sehingga tingkat keeratan hubungan yang dimiliki adalah sedang. Pasar modal Indonesia terhadap pasar modal Amerika Serikat memperoleh nilai sebesar 0.473 sehingga tingkat keeratan hubungan yang dimiliki adalah sedang. Pasar modal Indonesia terhadap pasar modal Australia memperoleh nilai sebesar 0.435 sehingga tingkat keeratan hubungan yang dimiliki adalah sedang.
