Abstract

Based on data from the Sarmi District Health Office in 2023, the prevalence of stunting among children under five reached 22.5%, spread across 11 community health centers. This figure remains far above the national target of 14%, necessitating intensive efforts to reduce it. In 2024, a study conducted by nursing students at Cenderawasih University revealed that in the Betaf health center area, 21.2% (55 out of 259) of children under five were stunted. Additionally, the Betaf health center reported that Kampung Komra itself recorded 15 cases of stunting in 2023. The high prevalence of stunting in this area has motivated the team to implement a community partnership program aimed at empowering Posyandu mothers, who play a crucial role in health and nutrition education for pregnant women and young children. This community service program aims to reduce stunting rates in Kampung Komra through health education, strengthening food independence with the implementation of Sustainable Food House Areas (KRPL), aquaponics-based fish farming, and the use of information technology in stunting prevention. Nutritional status measurements of children under five in the Posyandu of Kampung Komra indicate that 35% are stunted, underscoring the need for continuous interventions to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and young children.Given the high stunting rate and the community's limited ability to independently meet their food needs, this program should be continued periodically. Additionally, the program should be supported with intensive training for Posyandu mothers and access to affordable food resources, considering the community's preference for hunting over livestock farming, low economic conditions, and high commodity prices.

Abstract

The development of tourism and the creative economy in Indonesia can be seen from the increasing number of culinary tours emerging. Regional governments are given the freedom and authority for regions to regulate and utilize their resources to the maximum to produce products and introduce the potential of a region. One product that is quite popular in Jayapura City is smoked fish. The perpetrators of this business are a group of housewives with the aim of increasing income. The quality of processed fish products is the main thing that needs to be maintained starting from the initial selection of raw materials to handling during distribution of the product in question, such as personal hygiene and sanitation during processing. This is an absolute requirement for food processing, because its effect on the quality and food safety of the products produced. The Ikbal Family Fish Processing Unit (UPI) is one of the smoked fish processing units in Jayapura City which is very active in processing smoked fish products. The results of this activity are that group members understand the importance of using personal protective equipment (PPE) in supporting personal hygiene and sanitation in the production of smoked fish, group members are accustomed to using PPE in the production process and group members are proficient in using vacuum sealer packaging tools to maintain the quality of smoked fish.

Abstract

Smoked fish is a fish-based food product that is a leading product in Jayapura City, Papua. Most of the smoked fish demand in Jayapura City and surrounding districts is supplied from fish smoking centers in Hamadi and Imbi villages. The fish smoking technology used by producers, both in the fish smoking centers in Hamadi Village and the fish smoking centers in Imbi Village, is still relatively simple and unhygienic. Based on observations at smoked fish selling places, it was found that the average smoked fish trader sells their merchandise in an unpackaged condition. This makes the risk of contamination with pathogenic bacteria from the environment greater. The packaging materials used are also not able to protect smoked fish products from contamination that results in microbiological product damage. Common packaging materials used for smoked fish products are banana leaves, oil paper, and plastic bags. Based on the above problems, this study aims to determine how the packaging on smoked fish products in Jayapura City, Papua and how the role of packaging in improving the marketing of smoked fish products in Jayapura City, Papua. The tools and materials used in this research are stationery for writing, questionnaires for interviewing sources (business actors) and cameras for documentation. Data obtained from the field is presented in the form of pictures and analyzed securely. Keywords: Jayapura City, Labeling, Packaging, Smoked Fish, Vacuum.

Abstract

The Sentani snakehead fish (Oxyeleotris heterodon) is an endemic fish species that inhabits Lake Sentani and several other lakes in Papua Province, Indonesia. This species has important ecological and economic value, but is vulnerable to environmental change and overexploitation. Genetic identification, especially using the Cytochrome Oxidase 1 (COI) gene, is very important for conservation efforts and understanding the genetic diversity of Sentani Snakehead Fish. DNA barcoding techniques with the COI gene have become the standard method in molecular identification of species, allowing rapid and accurate identification. Unfortunately, the Sentani Snakehead Fish faces various threats such as habitat degradation, pollution, overfishing and the introduction of invasive foreign species. Therefore, genetic research is becoming increasingly important to support conservation efforts, providing in-depth understanding of the population status and adaptive potential of species. The results of DNA amplification and sequencing of COI gene fragments showed a DNA sequence with a length of 619 base pairs with the composition A (23.9%), G (18.1%), C (29.1%), T (28.9%). The results of identification by homology analysis in the NCBI and BOLD databases showed the highest similarity at 97.58% and 97.84% with the O. lineolate sequence. This is because there is no O. heterodon sequence from the COI gene fragment found in Genbank or the BOLD system. Phylogenetic tree analysis with several sequences that have close similarities shows a difference in clade between the O. heterodon sequence from this study with the O. lineolate sequence and other species.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify mud crab species inhabiting the mangrove ecosystem of Batu Ampar, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. Sampling was conducted from 26 October – 2 November 2024 during low tide using manual hand-catching, traditional traps (bubu), and fishermen’s catches obtained through interviews. A total of 20 crab individuals were collected and identified based on external morphological characteristics, referring to identification keys from WWF-Indonesia and the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS). The results identified two dominant species, Scylla serrata and Scylla paramamosain. The main morphological differences included carapace coloration, claw size and shape, and the number and form of frontal spines. Among the total samples, S. serrata was more dominant compared to S. paramamosain. Interviews with fishers also revealed a body size classification commonly used in trade, namely Size A (≥ 600 g) and Size B (± 200 g), which directly influenced market prices. These findings confirm that the Batu Ampar mangrove ecosystem supports more than one economically valuable mud crab species. The study provides baseline information that can serve as an initial reference for sustainable management and conservation of mud crabs in coastal West Kalimantan
