Abstract

Speaking proficiency, maharah kalam, is one of the Arabic teaching goals at Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah Tulungagung. Speaking skill will be better mastered by the understanding of language usage in the daily communication context. Therefore, Pragmatics approach is fruitfully employed in teaching speaking skill. This study aims at describing the Pragmatics approach in teaching speaking skill at Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah Tulungagung. This study belonged to queasy experiment. Data were collected through doing participation-observation, interview, and test. The result of data analysis revealed that Pragmatics approach in teaching Arabic speaking skill in Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah was reflected in the instructional design. This approach was implemented through three programs, namely dialogue (al-hiwar), pattern practice (tathbiq al-namudzaj), and oral practice (tarkib al-syafawi). In addition, there was a significant difference result of pre-test and post-test. It was assumed as an effect of applying pragmatics approach in teaching maharah kalam at Pondok Modern Darul Hikmah Tulungagung.

Abstract

Some studies show that Javanese language is now rarely used by Javanese people in their daily communication. Some Javanese prefer to communicate with national language and foreign language to Javanese language. As a result, only a few Javanese people who able to speak Javanese well. Therefore, to maintain Javanese Language IAIN Tulungagung conducts a Javanese Langauage course named Kepewaraan. This stusdy investigates Javanese Language maintenance through teaching Kepewaraan at IAIN Tulungagung. This study aims at describing the purpose, materials, methods, and evaluations of teaching Kepewaraan at IAIN Tulungagung. This study is a qualitative with sociolinguistics approach. The data were collected through interview, observasion, and documentation.  Data analysis reveals (1) the purpose of teaching Kepewaraan is to maintain Javanese language by digging, learning, and improving Javanese Language, (2) materials of Kepewaraan cover Javanese language and literature, speech levels, and rapping speech, (3) teaching methods implemented were immersion and drill, and (4) teaching evaluasions used were written and oral tests.

Abstract

This research is intended to describe the errors in writing text in Bahasa Indonesia made by BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers) learners in Kampung Indonesia Tulungagung which encompass (1) phonological, morphological, syntactical, and semantical errors and (2) the factors causing those errors made by the learners of BIPA.. The data are the learners’ writing in their diary and the final task after the teaching process. Those writing is then analyzed based the linguistic taxonomy which includes the errors in phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. The data analysis technique used is flow analysis model. The steps of analysis are (1) collecting data, (3) identifying the errors, (4) grading the errors, (5) analyzing the errors, (6) correcting the errors, and (7) discussing the errors. The findings of this research shows that (a) the language errors in phonology is 43.2%, (b) the language errors in morphology is 25.4%, (c) the language errors in syntax is 24.1%, (d) the language errors in semantic is 7.3%.Those language errors are caused by two factors: the internal and external factors. The internal factors include (a) low motivation, (b) different potential, (c) interference, and (d) the closeness of language group or family. The external factors include (a) incomplete teaching and learning process, and (b) the short period of teaching process.

Abstract

Politeness plays an important role in interaction in order to ovoid friction and conflict between speaker and hearer. This article aims to describe politeness by lecturer to students in academic interaction at IAIN Tulungagung. This study is qualitatively approached using pracmatics design. The data were collected using technique of observation by listening, writing notes, and participating. The data then, analyzed using interactive model adopted from Miles & Huberman. The data were classified according to face theory of Brawn & Levinson i.e. strategy of positive politeness and strategy of netagive politeness. Data analysis reveals that positive politeness strategies used by lecturer in academic interaction at IAIN Tulungagung are (1) the use of attention to speaker need, (2) the use group identity markers, (3) the use of agreement on the same topics, (4) the use of ovoiding disagreement by pseudo-agreement, (5) expressing understanding of speaker need, (6) the use of being optimistic, (7) involving the hearer in the speaker activities, (8) seeking for reasons or giving question, and (9) extending presents. While negative politeness strtaegies used by lecturer in academic interaction at IAIN Tulungagung are (1) the use of indirect utterances, (2) the use of being pessimistic, (3) minimize burden, (4) the use of respect, (5) asking for apologies, (6) the use of impersonal form, (7) the use of general rules of interaction.

Abstract

Teori pemerolehan bahasa Nativisme LAD meyakini pendapatan kosakata bahasa pada anak adalah pemberian warisan orangtua semenjak lahir. Chomsky mengubah pandangan mengenai pemerolehan bahasa telah diubah dan dirintis dengan munculnya TPB model baru yang bersifat rasionalis, yakni TPB Model Nativis LAD. Karena hal tersebut, Chomsky mendapatkan gelar sebagai pencetus serta pengemuka TPB Nativis LAD. Seorang anak biasanya mempelajari bahasa secara perlahan dan abstrak. Sang anak melakukan hal tersebut tanpa adanya instruksi eksplisit maupun pengaruh dari lingkungan sebagai petunjuk prinsip dasarnya. Pemerolehan bahasa ialah produk yang terjadi akibat interaksi secara nyata di antara pelajar dengan manusia dewasa di lingkungan sekitarnya, pelajar berperan sebagai pemain aktif. Kelebihan Teori Nativisme diantaranya adalah: 11) Dapat menonjolkan bakat yang manusia miliki 2) Mendorong perwujudan diri sebagai manusia berkompetensi 3) Membantu manusia dalam penentuan dari sebuah pilihan 4) Mendorong perkembangan potensi diri manusia. Sedangkan kekurangan Teori Nativisme diantaranya adalah: 1) Pandangan negative dari teori ini adalah seolah-olah manusia memiliki sifat-sifat sulit diubah karena sifat-sifat turunan telah melekat padanya sejak lahir. 2) Dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia secara tidak disadari juga melibatkan teori ini. Contohnya ketika materi naratif. Siswa diberikan kewenangan untuk mengolah bahsaanya sendiri untuk membentuk suatu ceirta naratif. Hal ini juga memerlukan bakat bahasa yang dimiliki siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan adanya tindak tutur dalam bahasa Indonesia oleh pemelajar BIPA di Muslim Santitham Fundation School Thailand. Data diperoleh pada saat pembelajaran BIPA di Muslim Santitham Fundation School Thailand. Data diambil secara langsung dari lapangan dengan teknik simak dan catat. Simak digunakan untuk mengetahui data tindak tutur dalam pembelajaran BIPA. Catat digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data tuturan dari pemelajar BIPA. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan pragmatik bahasa antara. Data dianalisis dengan prespektif pragmatik untuk memperoleh faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan perbedaan pada tindak tutur dalam bahasa Indonesia oleh pemelajar BIPA. Hasil analisis data ditemukan bahwa ada empat faktor tindak tutur, yaitu ragam formal dan informal, pemilihan strategi tutur, pemilihan formula semantik, dan pemilihan pronomina persona.

Abstract

Abstract. The study of ethnolinguistics is a combination of two sciences, namely, ethnology and linguistics. The study of certain ethnic groups, certain cultures, and the intricacies of their language is ethnolinguistic studies. With the merging of knowledge, ethnolinguistics is the study of culture and language or linguistics. This study seeks to explain the form of the lexicon and the form of culture in the Kuih Ashura tradition of the Malay society of Nakhon Si Thammarat Thailand. This research is based on the study of ethnolinguistic theory which explains the relationship between culture and language. This type of research uses a qualitative descriptive type. The techniques and methods in this study use note taking techniques and the listening method in mentioning terms or conversations when the Kuih Ashura tradition is carried out by the Malay community of Nakhon Si Thammarat. This study seeks to explain that the Kuih Ashura tradition is always carried out every year in the Islamic New Year. The results showed that there were 12 monomorphemic forms, 9 polymorphemic forms, and 2 forms of Kuih Ashura culture in the  Malay society of Nakhon Si Thammarat as ideas, values, norms, provisions, and as community activities.Keywords: The Kuih Ashura, Malay Society Thailand, Ethnolinguistic Study

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penanaman dinamika literasi pada era 4.0 di Tulungagung, yang meliputi pelaksaan penanaman dinamika literasi, program yang dilakukan, perubahan, serta tantangan literasi pada era 4.0. Data penelitian ini berupa kegiatan literasi dan wawancara dengan pegiat literasi di Kecamatan Kedungwaru Tulungagung. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Observasi digunakan untuk mendapatkan data tentang pelaksaan penanaman dinamika literasi di era 4.0. Wawancara digunakan untuk mengetahui proses awal digagasnya dinamika literasi. Sedangkan dokumentasi digunakan untuk mengetahui kegiatan yang dilakukan untuk menanamkan dinamika literasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data ditemukan pelaksanaan penanaman dinamika literasi pada era 4.0 di Kecamatan Kedungwaru Tulungagung berawal dari niat mengangkat potensi individu untuk mau berliterasi dan memberdayakan potensi desa untuk kegiatan literasi. Peran dukungan dari masyarakat dan pemerintah terbukti sangat menunjang. Sebagai tantangan literasi 4.0, individu harus mampu berliterasi dengan teknologi secara cerdas. Mengembangkan potensi literasi yang ada dengan memanfaatkan media.

Abstract

Cultural differences between native and Indonesian culture makes foreign students in Indonesia experience a culture shock. Such case occurs on students from Pattani, South Thailand, who study in IAIN Tulungagung. To overcome that culture shock, Pattani students do communication accommodation to make them feel comfortable in a new environment, and thus can be accepted by Javanese students from Indonesia. This research was a kind of qualitative study. The data were collected by using observation and interview techniques. To find out the forms of communication accommodation performed by Pattani students, the researchers adopted communication accommodation theory by Giles. The results of this research revealed that there were two forms of communication accommodation performed by Pattani student. Firstly, convergence, was performed when Pattani students tried to level communication behavior with their speech partners. Convergence done by Pattani students can be classified into pre-convergence, convergence process, and post convergence. Secondly, divergence, is defending Pattani identity when communicating with Javanese students. Divergence accommodation were performed in two forms namely verbal and non-verbal.
