Abstract

Belis is dowry as a prerequisite for men in Manggarai customary marriage. Belis is interpreted as a tribute to a woman's womb (mother), a form of responsibility of a man and willing to show that men have been able to foster a household.As time goes by, especially the magnitude of capitalist influence that drives materialistic concepts, culture cannot escape from it. The meaning and symbol of belis has changed that actually impacts on the essence of itself. The current meaning of belis is no more than culture balance sheet to measure the status of women. Thus, the slogan “the higher of (education, social and economic of women/parents) the status, the greater belis demanded. On this phenomenon, Manggarainese youth should declare their perspective to place the meaning of belis on its origin.The main purpose of the study is to know and to map Manggarianese youth perspective in Bali on current practice of belis. Nowadays, practice of belis is far from meaning and symbol as original pattern of belis. Symbols (material) of belis tend to be determinant of the status of women. Appreciation is ambiguous and vague. The result of the study that Manggarainese youth in Bali have different attitudes and actions on current practice of belis. Their attitudesare to accept, reject and criticize the current practice of belis. Manggarainese youth who accept belis provide rational reason in which it related to increasing of need. The refusal side provide irrational reason in which belis is used to measure high-low social status of women. Key words: Manggarainese belis tradition, front stage and backstange of belis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The phenomenon of electric cigarette in Denpasar can be analyzed through several research in sociology. This research seeks to discuss and explain the social construction of electrical cigarettes as a substitution to tobacco cigarettes in the area city of Denpasar. This research uses descriptive qualitative research method with analysis of Social Construction theory from Peter L. Bererger and Thomas Luckman as the main theory and society of consumption of Jean Baudrillard as a supporting theory. The relationship between the theory of social construction with the theory of consumption society in this study are interrelated, because the formation of the consumption community in electric cigarettes influenced by the social construction of electric cigarettes through externalization, objectivity, and internalization. The social construction of electrical cigarettes is accepted by society to form a growing consumer society today that society consumption is no longer based on exchange rate or use value, but because of the abstract and constructed value of symbols and values ??of symbols. Based on the results of this reseacrh note that those who are using electric cigarettes not only consume value for use and exchange rates, but to the the exteat that they use electric cigarettes based on the value of signs and symbol values this is finally in the form of following trend, status, expression and luxury lifestyle. Abstract

The language of East Sumba has speakers below 1000 people in 2002, the use of regional languages in Waingapu city is very low, especially among teenagers. This research uses qualitative method with Levi-Strauss approach that there is dynamism of linguistic sign language (Langue) that impact on individual speech (Parole) with observation data, interview, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), and Documentation. The technique of data analysis is done descriptively qualitative and interpretative. The results of the study indicate that: (1) The low use of East Sumba language among adolescents resulting from heterogeneous communities, low education, inter-ethnic marriage, and the shame of using local language in Waingapu city (2) There is no specific learning process in understanding East Sumba language; the youth learn ten language of East Sumba from the parents so that individual speech as adolescents who interact actively to the exclusion of local language. Local government constraints have not conducted local language learning in schools due to the scarcity of regional language teachers. (3) The low use of East Sumba language causes the loss of greetings to the nobility, the changing social order, and the loss of traditional songs dance. Abstract

This research attempts to show parts of father’s image in the narrative or story of the novel Sabtu Bersama Bapak by Adhitya Mulya. This research uses the critical discourse analysis method from Norman Fairclough, such as text analysis, discourse practice, and social practice with analysis of patriarchal language theory from Dale Spender and patriarchal culture from Sylvia Walby. The result showed that the dominant father’s image is manifested from the use of the husband's name behind the wife's name to show the identity of his family, the language used in the conversation is arranged in such a way that it harms women, and up to regulate the survival of all members of his family even though he (father) has died. In the discourse practice, namely the production of texts, Adhitya Mulya wrote the novel Sabtu Bersama Bapak because of anxiety as a father in raising children feel there are social grips in society not in line with himself. Therefore, the point of view used in this novel is the point of view of the man and the backbone of his story, a man who gives a message to men as well. Based on this, through the consumption of the text, namely the viewpoint of the researcher himself, The story in this novel represents patriarchal ideology. The view of the image of men as the master of power and the image of women as controlled, in general, described in this novel through the position of wife and child in the dominance of patriarchal ideology. Abstract

ABSTRACT Bali is famous with many traditional food, one of the famous is babi guling. Local people until foreign tourists have been know about babi guling. Many Babi Guling Warung’s or some restaurant is famous here and have a some unique things every menu, but is not all of the Babi Guling Warung’s used technology for promotion. Technology is become help some babi guling warung’s in Bali to share and promotion with social media, one of the example is Babi Guling Candra in Denpasar. Babi Guling Candra is also used social media to share and promotion their food, for the example: they used a banner, facebook, and also instagram. This research used descriptive-eksplanative method to find there is some “myth” or not in the social media of Babi Guling Candra, because when a some opinion in social media, it means there is some “myth” there. In collecting the data, the authors use the technique of observation, semi-structured interviews, and also some documentation. Based on the research that has been done by using the theory of semiology by Roland Barthes that is consists to know there is some “myth” or not, and the authors can find it some  conclusion if a some babi guling opinion produces by Babi Guling Candra is didn’t have some “myth” for the every picture they already have, because when tha authors ask to informant, they said they can feel the same tasted when they are already to try it, and feel same when they are just see for the media promotion of Babi Guling Candra, and they also said if the tasted is almost same with the picture. Abstract

ABSTRACT Grade acceleration is an acceleration program which provides services accelerated program needs students who have special characteristics in terms of intellectual potential and special talent to be served according to their needs. In the expansion there are some negative impacts contained in the accelerated program for gifted children, the negative impact of the accelerated program that is located on the problems of social adjustment, where the problem is the accelerated program students are encouraged to do well academically, this will reduce the time to perform other activities. The problems in the review in this study are as follows. (1) How is the acceleration of social interaction in the classroom? (2) How The social interaction between students accelerated classes and regular classes? The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative done in SMAN 1 Denpasar. The theoretical basis used in the study of social interaction and disiosiatif according associative and Gillin Gillin. The results of this study found that the social interaction that is not going well in class acceleration and accelerated classes with regular classes, interaction that is not going well is causing gaps and chasms that separation between the other student with other students in accelerated classes. Abstract

This Marginalization of seaweed farmers in Kampung Toyapakeh Village is a condition where local people who work as seaweed farmers don’t have the space and opportunity to do all their activities. The situation is caused by the development of tourism industry in the Kampung Toyapakeh Village because it has the potential of a stunning natural beauty. The problem studied in this research is about how the process of marginalization of seaweed farmers in coastal communities of Kampung Toyapakeh Village, then what causes the marginalization of seaweed farmers, and what impacts are caused. The hegemonic theory of Antonio Gramsci is used in analyzing the problems that occur. Gramsci states that hegemony is a chain of victory gained through consensus mechanisms rather than through oppression of other social classes. The findings show that in Kampung Toyapakeh Village there is a over land function and livelihood function. The government supports the development of tourism and community sectors are included in the development of tourism sector so that there is a shift of livelihood from the agricultural sector into the tourism sector. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study attempted to examine the use of Instagram social media networks asqaqplaceqto show9the8self-existence of teenagers in Denpasar city. The>approach<usedXinXthisXstudyXis aXqualitativeXapproachAwithRdescriptiveYqualitative type research and sharpened by Rom Harre’s self-theory. The results showed that Instagram is widely used to show the self-existence of teenagers in the city of Denpasar. The self-existence shown by teenagers, according to Rom Harré's self-theory, is influenced by personal concepts and views about their self and identity as well as social constructions formed by social environment. Behavior in processing and uploading photos is strongly influenced by social factors such as aesthetic photo trends that show style and fashion, shopping, popular photo backgrounds or places, and so on. Abstract

ABSTRACT The limited rainfall experienced by Desa Patiala Bawa and Desa Waimangoma causes limited water resources to meet the needs of clean water for drinking, cooking, washing, bathing and other water needs. This research aims at examining public perceptions of the needs and effectiveness of clean water assistance in three villages in West Sumba. The research method used in this study is quantitative research using primary and secondary data sources. The number of samples used as many as 104 respondents are allocated based on the Slovin formula. The data were collected using questionnaires consisting of 26 questions. Data analysis techniques used are simple linear regression analysis, productmoment correlation and coefficient of determination. Based on results indicate that the factors that influencing public perception of clean water requirement is because of the need for drinking water, toilets, washing clothes, cleaning eating feding, for livestock and watering plants with regression coefficient of 0.238 increase the clean water needs also increasing the adaptation needs for people. The level of effectiveness of clean water aid in community perception in three villages is moderate. The majority of respondents have been satisfied with clean water assistance, besides being able to provide better adaptation that has been adequate for the community. So that the government is expected to have coordination with volunteers who are willing to provide assistance to. The volunteers are not always expected to continue to provide assistance. However, as Ife said (2016) it is the community participation to find new water sources to self-build it and at the same time maintaining and conserving the clean water facilities has been provided so that they can survive for long periods of time. Abstract

ABSTRACT Most of student at FISIP Unud are students migrants. This research took two problem formulations; how is the culture shock phenomenon experienced by the students migrants at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Udayana University and how the students migrants overcome cultural shock in their new environment. The theory in this study is the thought of an anthropologist Kalvero Oberg in the 1960s. The result from the research that the students migrants experienced culture shock by several factor, such as: sosio-cultural factors, environmental factors, culinary and tourism factors and homesickness. There are several ways to overcome the cultural shock that are done by the students migrants which is different onto each other’s according to the personality of each individual e.i: adapting local communication through language adjustment the way locals communicate, learn and try to fit in the new culture, follow which happened to be popular in their new environment.
